We have just done a mat swap with mum and now have a lovely hand woven rug. Unfortunatly Archie has either taken a dislike or like to it because he will not leave it alone. He keeps scratching the middle of it the moment my back is turned. OH gently removed him and put him by his scratch post but he really grumbled. We have even put the sratch post on the mat but he just scratches around it. Has any one got any ideas before we have to remove the mat :scared:

Strange. Could it have had something on it before that may have left a mild scent that only he can smell? Sounds strange. Maybe it feels like the scratching post sisal?

Cats have scent glands in their feet and he may be "marking" the new rug to make it smell nice (I'm not implying that it doesn't already smell nice of course :naughty:) ).
Hopefully he will give up on it in a couple of days.

you could try spraying it with feliway. Smidgen is systematically destroying one of mine - but that is ok as he is only finishing the job that Shadow started when he was a puppy :Luv2:
