Title: Supplement to help kidneys?
Post by: Mark on November 07, 2007, 17:05:12 PM
I went to take photos of a cat for rehoming today. The lady said she struggles as she is on incone support but gets help from the PDSA, including Frontline. I mentioned  clapton's CRF and told her the cost of meds. She said her own cat has kidney disease and is on meds too. She shoed me the container which looked like a supplement rather than a med. I thought I would remember the name but didn't (had a sore head this morning  :evillaugh: ) I think it started with ipak - any ideas?

Ipakitine?

It's a phosphorous binder, not the best one available either - Alucaps is a much better type.

Thanks Helen  ;D

That was it. She said the PDSA vet gave it to her for her cat's kidney disease. That is all she has been given  :-:

I have some alucaps from when you recommended then but don't use them as his levels are not bad. Maybe I should start? (against my vet's advice)

Only if his phos levels are too high - not needed otherwise, although Ipakatine (OK - how is it pronounced? my vet calls it Ipper keet in, I'd always thought it was I pack it een  :-: ) is supposed to be more than a phos binder, its supposed to mop up toxins too.

Yes it has Chitosan that is supposed to mop up toxins in the intestine. I googled it and it is ground mollusc shells and usually used in "Fat Binder" products.
