In the 8-9 months I have had Lexy, she's only brought up furballs twice and the last time was a good two months ago. Since then though she hasn't.
The Royal Canin site encyclopedia says that a cat should have access to grass etc to help bring them up especially if they are indoor cats as they groom more.
I groom Lexy too, but she still grooms herself constantly.
Shoudl I worry that she hasn't brought up any furballs? Anyone had experience of this and any problems or have ways that I can induce her bringing them up?
As usual, when I have a question it is of the lame sort!!

Tigger had the odd furball in the summer when she was moulting but neither of them have had any for months now either as they are busy growing coats rather than shedding coats. You can always give little Lexy some hairball paste if you want to (Katalax or the Sherleys one with probiotics are good) as that will help ease any hair through her system if you are worried.

I have to say Kitty I dont think Archie has ever brought up a furball - we've had him for 7 months now. The only cat who did was my first foster. Archie seems perfectly healthy so I'm not worrying too much but may purchase the paste just in case!

Jaffa has never brought up a furball in his life (he's 9). Some cats just don't have a problem - guess the hair they ingest just passes through them without a problem. I wouldn't worry about it unless she's showing signs of having some hair stuck somewhere.
-
Thanks all. My cats growing up rarely brought them up but then again we lived in South Africa and they pretty much didn't get any winter fur, it was a steady temp most of the time. I may buy the paste just in case, since sometimes she missed a day that she doesn't poop (charming conversation this is), so I wonder if she gets a bit constipated.

I give Mosi the defurrum treats which seem to keep him furball free (he's semi longhaired).
-
Susanne I love Mosi...and Jaffa...can I have 'em?
-
I've only ever seen 1 furball from Max in the 6 years I've had him - I do groom him regularly as well so don't know if that makes any difference?
-
The slightly longer-haired of my two cats has coughed like the is *trying* to bring up a hairball a couple of times but never brought anything up...does that sound normal? He's about 8 months old and I've had him for about 3. My mum's little oriental does the same from time to time too, but I've never seen her produce a hairball either. Should I be worried?
-
A bit of Defurrum probably couldn't hurt, Fleur - although obviously if he's coughing a lot or seems uncomfortable he needs to see the vet.
-
Defurrum eh? I will look it up. And I'm not worried as he has only done it twice ever for a few seconds each time. But I will keep an eye on him. Thanks!

Is he short haired? Short haired cats have fewer furballs than long haired ones (not quite so much fur to ingest lol) but yes regular grooming helps a lot. You could make stuff a small cushion with the amount of fur you get out of my pair when you groom them

Yeh he is, but his fur is pretty dense - I could have stuffed a whole household of cushions with the fur that comes of my boy

Now, why didn't the quote come out purple :scared:
Not good with all this technology stuff lol

Well all I can say is I wish Mogs would stop with the fur balls as she woke me up this morning huck huck ing  and thats after having 2 defurrum a day. Think we'll go back on the katalax lol
