they pics are fantastic michelle! i've never seen a wee baby panda before. can't believe how fuzzy it is in the first pics :rofl: looks nothing like a panda :rofl:

I watched a great programme on a panda rescue. Pandas have 2 or 3 young but only feed 1 so what the rescue does is rotate the babies around and handfeed them inbetween, the mum nevers notices  :evillaugh:

I assume thats why, if you only concieve one and something is amiss its no good, they are very slow breeders  :(

Something like that - as they grow the mum really only has the resources to care for one so the other twin or triplet will be left to die :'( - but there's no biological reason for it, there's nothing actually *wrong* with the other baby so it makes good sense with captive animals to intervene and increase the survival rate.

Apparently the mother pandas also have a tendency to roll on their young and squash them  :(
