:Luv:
I watched a great programme on a panda rescue. Pandas have 2 or 3 young but only feed 1 so what the rescue does is rotate the babies around and handfeed them inbetween, the mum nevers notices :evillaugh:

I never knew that Millie, is that because the strongest will have the best chance of survival?
-
I assume thats why, if you only concieve one and something is amiss its no good, they are very slow breeders :(

Something like that - as they grow the mum really only has the resources to care for one so the other twin or triplet will be left to die :'( - but there's no biological reason for it, there's nothing actually *wrong* with the other baby so it makes good sense with captive animals to intervene and increase the survival rate.

you learn something new everyday!

I just love pandas but they are so dumb
-
Apparently the mother pandas also have a tendency to roll on their young and squash them :(
-
definately dumb :(
