Post by: ccmacey on October 30, 2007, 22:07:33 PM
Hi peeps would like to know does anyone sponsor a cat? How do you go about it and generally how much would it be. Anyone with more info please post thanks.

I sponsor a 'Wizz cat' cat, most cat rescue sites have a sponsorship section if you're looking for a local sponsor cat.  Wizz asks for a minimum sponsorship of £15 but obviously the more the better!  http://www.wizz-catz.co.uk/catsponsor.html

I ask not to get sent the goodies as I'd rather the donation went wholly to the cat but if you sponsor a Wizz Cat you get:  "In your initial pack you will receive a copy of the Wizz Catz quarterly newsletter, quarterly updates on your sponsor cat, a certificate, a photo, a keyring and a fridge magnet. Thereafter you will receive a quarterly newsletter, an update on your sponsor cat and a photo."

I Think we ask for a £12 donation (worked out to be £1 a month, hence the odd amount), but only have one on the sponsorship list at the moment.

£10 a year, wow I'll sponsor 10! Thats really good  ;D

I'm not allowed anymore cats you see but want to be able to help another little one out. Well I'm not allowed anymore young ones but I may be able to sneek an oldie in lol.

Why are these cats up for sponsor and not rehoming? Are they ever homed?

We do a sponsorship scheme and I'm guessing that's true of most cp branches, it might be an idea to contact your local one.

I'm thinking, in the new year, of creating an interactive sponsorship for kids so they learn about what their cute sponsored kitty needs in a fun way. They'd see cuteness and cuddles but realise the responsibility. I think it would be a good way for parents to see if it's the right time to introduce a cat into the household.

hope you sort it CC, it's really important for us to make much-needed funds. It's a fab prezzie too. PM me if you want to see some of ours  ;D

Ours are mainly broken or old. Just generally "undesireable". It's such a shame, they're wonderful moggies  :Luv:

We put hard to home ones on sponsorship, in the hope of getting donations towards their care, but we havent had any interest in it. Some of the original ones have been homed, as fortunately people do ask for oldies occasionally!! The one on the list at the moment is a semi-feral who has been with us most of her life, doesn't like fusses, although is happy to live in the house and follow people, so we can't find anyone willing to offer her a home.

Wizz's sponsor cats are either sick or elderly, I sponsor Simon who is 15 and only has 3 legs due to a nasty 'so called safety collar' injury  :(  He's gorgeous and happens to be grey too CC  ;)

Ashfield and Amber Valley. They have a shelter called "Woodland Nook" which caters for 12 cats, most of whom will, sadly, never find homes. We have a CatChat rehoming page. It hasn't been updated for a bit but there haven't been many homings  :(

http://www.freenetpages.co.uk/hp/ashfieldcats/oldsite/home.htm  is the main site. I'm learning web-design to create one for Woodland Nook soon...

Dont get what you mean? Moppet is lovely. Is that all of them?

i meant the charity I sponsor a cat through (not the one I foster for!!). Moppet actually found a home, but Kelly updates the website, and understandably, it isn't up to date. This is the cat that is on the sponsorship list, and I think Percy, the CH kitten at Kelly's may be on there, but I am not 100% sure.

Various reasons. They're mostly elderly and a couple of them are on medication for things like crf. otherwise I'm not really sure, they're all lovely. We don't "open" as such, so maybe that's it. I'm going to be working on this over the coming months to try and get them into homes.

CC, our CatChat page is probably better for seeing some of the cats.

I do hope working on a webpage will help a lot - we offer to help out with vets bills for over 12 year olds to help them find homes, so that might be an option for the ones with long term health issues. We have homed quite a few elderly cats.

As I have said I would like to home an older cat but dont think a rescue would home because I have children and of course there is Ollie's condition. Saying that my cats are fine with Ollie about. All of mine have their jabs/ been neutered also.

Some rescues do home with kids, the prob is that older cats can end up costing a lot, and if you have ongoing bills with Ollie, the cost might end up being an issue. Sponsoring is a good way of helping out though.

CC i think its a wonderfull thing to do, it makes such a different to the rescue and the people who care for them, and as the others said it cost so little per year to sponsor a cat :Luv: I sponsor a cat cabin in our local rescue so it covers all the cats which come in to that cabin during theyear, some times they find home fast and some times they stay  for months. :(

Also in few occasions i have seen a cat which i wanted so badly to give a home to, but becos of Phoebe my B/W cat i couldnt so instead i sponsor them and it feels like ,well it just feels right ;) :Luv:

i agree wholeheartedly P, the one I sponsor is one that I would love to home (he is a semi long haired, 3 legged, one eyed tabby!!), but he hasn't lived in a house for years, so isn't litter trained, and they also dont think it is fair to make him live in a house, he is used to a farm environment, so sponsoring him is the next best thing.
I think we decided to do sponsor a cat cabin as well actually.

I'll be sponsoring Suzie, also three-legged, this Christmas for OH. She's a gorgeous persian but has social issues. She hisses and swipes at anyone or anything that comes within a few feet. We have to groom her with welding gloves!

I've never really thought about sponsering a cat.....I've thought about getting another cat, but i don't think Suki would cope, so sponsoring a cat or pen could be an option!  I shall check it out this weekend.

I know most of the rescues give the option of sponsor a cat or two ;D, but i think there are still lots of people out there                          (dont mean the forum) which they dont know
about it, its great that they make donation but its even greater if they donate and sponsor aswell ;),and at the same time the rescue keep you informed about the little one you sponsor which is fab :) :Luv:

I think nowadays rescues especially those that are registered prefer people to sponsor a cat cabin. Sponsoring a particular cat is now frowned upon because in law if a particular cat is sponsored you have to prove that every penny given for that cat has been spent on that cat. It the Charities commission and tax man chose a rescue to investigate (they chose so many a year), they go through everything with a fine toothcomb. All monies must have been used for the purpose it was donated and you have to have proof.

Oh, brilliant, that's great to know. I've got my copy of Dreamweaver and another Purrs member has very kindly done us a bit of logo work so we're ready to go. Now where did I put that spare time?...

Anyway, I'm aiming to launch just after Christmas in time for our auction. Hopefully I can pick up fundraising momentum to help us all along a bit.
