Title: HOAXThis is about a computer virus in wrong section deliberatly so most will see
Post by: Gill (sneakiefeline) on October 29, 2007, 15:49:23 PM
Very Important--received this this Morning
Please Be Extremely Careful especially if using internet mail such as Yahoo, Hotmail, AOL and so on. This information arrived this morning direct from both Microsoft and Norton.

Please send it to everybody you know who has access to the Internet.

You may receive an apparently harmless email with a P ower Point presentation 'Life is beautiful.'

If you receive it DO NOT OPEN THE FILE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES , and delete it immediately. If you open this file, a message will appear on your screen saying: 'It is too late now, your life is no longer beautiful.' Subsequently you will LOSE EVERYTHING IN YOUR PC and the person who sent it to you will gain access to your name, e-mail and password.

This is a new virus which started to circulate on Saturday afternoon. AOL has already confirmed the severity, and the antivirus software's are not capable of destroying it. The virus has been created by a hacker who calls himself 'life owner.'

PLEASE SEND A COPY OF THIS EMAIL TO ALL YOUR FRIENDS and ask them to PASS IT ON IMMEDIATELY

If you read all the thread you will see that I was sent a message warning of a virus, so posted it to warn people but the warning I was sent turned out to be a hoax!

Funnily enough, I did receive a slab of spam entitled 'Life is beautiful' more than once a couple of weeks ago.  And it had an attachment.  Perhaps life is imitating art?

Thats worrying as it had an attachment and I know you would not have opened the attachment  ;D

So just a warning to others , do not open attachments to spam cos they could seriously harm your computers health  >:(

It can, you can embed .exe files in a presentation. Worse if you get sent it as a pps then it can be programmed to run on opening. You would never know until it opens.

Always worth checking stuff like this on Snopes before posting to a forum - this particular one's got a reference here: http://www.snopes.com/computer/virus/life.asp

You can embed almost any file into microsoft office applications but you will get a warning when you run though, if you ignore the warning then you only have yourself to blame :)

otherwise it means you cannot accept any attachments at all, embeds are the exception and should be deleted anyway
