We are so not having a good day today. Opened the door this morning to let the neighbours cat in (we have him in our house during the day), and he was limping, looks like he's been in a bit of a scrap... again!.. mud covered paws and unhappy face.
One of our cats went out, has now come back, without his collar, hissing and growling, tail firmly tucked between legs.. and 2 front paws chewed and scratched, tufts of fur hanging off his rear end and generally not a happy chap.
You know its bad when the top cat of the house backs away from him lol
So 1 cat is tucked up in an old cardi trying to sleep, another is tucked up on my new jumper! and I've just heard the top cat falling off bf's pc desk (ok thats funny!)
Poor beaten up boys

Aw poor babies -
Keep an eye on both though, Bites can easily get infected and often do.
If there are any visable injuries start cleaning with Warm salty water. You might not find any until a couple of days time when scabs have forms (and you can feel them).
If this is the case you need to pick the scabs off and then clean the wounds with warm salty water (or Hibiscub) if you have any.
Hope both cat are ok xxxx

The neighbours cat (teezer), looks to have twisted or pulled something in a leg.
But our cat has got claw and teeth pin like marks under his fur (did the blowing thing on him). When he calms down I'll be bathing him clean.. but as I like my fingers on my hands I think I'll leave him for a bit... :shy:
Thanks for the advice and concern

Poor kitty's, hope they are feeling better soon :Luv:
Didn't know you had to pick the scabs off before you cleaned them (learn't something new today) :thanks:

Well can cats die from being bitten by other cats? :-:
My cat had a limp and got very ill and died a week later, the vet said it started from a bite. A load of old :censored:
Not saying this is whats going to happen btw.

Teezer is always getting into scraps, he usually just curls up and sleeps it off. He also puts on an extra limp for special food lol
Ninja tries to start fights but he is such a wimp. I'm a worry wart, so I'll be checking him continually :)

Once a scab has formed any infection is then covered up, thats why you pick the scabs off so you can get at the puss and clean it away

Yeah just keep an eye on him as he does have bite marks. If you are at all worried a course of antibiotics will do the trick.
Also i think you can but Hibiscub from the chemist these days

If your cat is fighting the neighbours it would be wise to stop inviting it in :shy:
Is the neighbours cat neutered?
I kinda think of it as would you like your OH to invite in another man and let him lounge over the sofa, drink your beer and raid the fridge right under your nose! :shy:

Somthing i have just thought about.
You said that Teezer is always getting into scraps - Is he vacinnated for FeLV ? If he is fighting alot it will only take a bite from an infected cat and thats his lot....he will have either FeLV or FIV
If he is not protected agianst FeLV i would DEFF get him done for it - its a shame there isnt an FIV one too
-
I would be very concerned about this situation, I am not sure who is fighting who but bites are nasty things and as others have said most often cause an infection leading to an abcess.
Both cats sound quite damaged and needing vet treatment on Monday.
-
Sorr to cause any confusion, but both cats were beaten up by other cats.. they love each other.. full on snuggles on sofa together.
Teezer is all jabbed up just like nin is.
Infact when teezer left this even, he was missing his limp.. must of left that on my chair.. the little tinker.
Ninja still isn't great, but he wander down stairs earlier, grumbling to himself. And he's just gone over for a drink, and his supper.
last time he got beaten up it was much worse looking, but the vets just cleaned him up and said to just keep an eye on him.
I'll see how he is on monday like you've suggested.... I swear we have a reserved sign at the vets for my two cats lol

I thought it was probably another cat but I think that you must try and protect them from this terror cos its not good for them to keep nbeing hurt and also scared.

What i am worried about is if the cat that has done the beating up is FIV positive (which is highly likely if not neutered) it only takes one deep bite and your cat would be infected.
Do you know who is doing the beating up ?
Fingers crossed Ninga feels abit better tomorrow.
If you are on friendly terms with your vet he might give you a course of antibiotics without seeing the cat
-
Yes you are right Michelle cos he sounds a bit like a territorial unneutered Tom

And if thats the case and Michlob can get near him them maybe he could visit the vets to have 2 things removed !!!

The evil twisted cat, is the cat across the cul di sac.
His teritory is my nextdoor but ones garden, and my stupid lad, likes to have a bit of a 'go'.. and he got a pasting.
Now the only reason I know this other cats medical history is because he's going bald like my other cat did in the past.
Other than the unexplained baldness, he is a healthy, if somewhat evil cat. Oh and this cat has been 'done' also. Does looks daft bald!
Our cul di sac is full of cats, and usually they keep to their own spaces.. well apart from this one, nin and teezer..
Thankfully this morning, Nin is looking much perkier, tail fully up, had a plod outside.. BF found his collar in the nextdoor but ones garden, and these people told us what happened.
I'm still keeping an eye on him though. He's a bit slow on stairs, but fine at jumping up on things.
He's my baby and I just want what's best for him..

Fingers crossed for them, and it might be worth having FIV/FeLV tests done. There is an FIV vaccine in AMerica, but it is slightly unreliable at the moment, due to the tests not being able to pick up the difference between the vaccine and the virus, so any vaccinated cat tested would show as positive - not what we want in this country with certain rescue's attitudes towards FIV+ cats.
CC, I wouldnt dismiss what your vet said about your cat, nasty abscesses probably could kill, I had a cat with an abscess, and as it only looked like a small dark mark, my neighbour dismissed my concerns, and it was only when the cat started having smelly gunk pouring out of it that my neighbour realised she was wrong and she was booked in at the vets, but she was really bad that night, and did end up dying 4 days later - vet said it wasn't related, but as she was perfectly healthy before that, I can't quite believe there wasn't a connection. Hers was so bad she had to have drains put in, as well as antibiotics.

Sorry to hear. Cats with Balls anger me!
There was a ginger Tom that used to beat up Barry when he was younger. It sounded like he was getting killed one day so I went out and decided to step in, Barry ran up to me and jumped in my arms, and the ginger cat tried the same, big mistake, he ran into my foot and left lookin a bit shell shocked. No I did not kick him before someone starts!! Well I'm not having any ginger animal picking on my Cat so as driving off with the ginger tom in my boot was'nt an option, Training Barry was. The rocky soundtrack was put on the stereo and I spent the next few months scrapping with barry, my arm was a mess!! lol However in those three months Barry got bigger and less scared and is now definately the top cat on the street!

Aww SpecialRed bless your cat!
Well my ginger lad is a right softy.. he goes bounding up to cats and flops on his back and waggles about.. not great tactics to be fair lol
Well he is fine today, jumping about all over the place..yey
