theres 2 cats looking for homes and in the ad it say 'fully declawed'!!! in aberdeen - in scotland!!! i didnt think this was even possible? just a little shocked by it.
-
Any chance you could do some detective work? - maybe pretend you have a cat you want declawed and try to get them to tell you which vet did it. Then get the RSPCA on them - Its worth a shot. Dishonest but hey, its for the cats :Luv:
-
I definitely agree with Mark....
How could they :(
-
There must be a medical reason surely because it is illegal in this country ??
-
Yeah go for it Han.....if not i'll do it :evillaugh:

I can't imagine there would be 2 cats needing declawing for medical reasons. There could be a rogue vet out there though. I just got the PETA newsletter. There is an abbatoir in America that kills sows by putting a chain round their neck and raising them off the ground to hang them which can take up to 10 minutes for them to die :'(. There is a vet that testified on their behalf that it is humane. PETA are campaigning for the vet to be struck off. Unfortunately out of 1000s of vets, There is the odd "Harold Shipman" or just someone heartless and greedy. I would definately pursue it.
Its definately illegal in Scotland http://www.declawing.co.uk/declawingpif.html
I just saw this on Yahoo answers - The subject is closed so I can't add my comment >:(

There would be NO vet in aberdeen who would declaw a cat , that i'd bet my house on ;)
You need to remember that aberdeen is an oil city capital and there are many folk moving in and out from overseas, sometimes they take their cats with them who may have been declawed in their original country. I have seen 2 or 3 declawed cats whilst working in aberdeen but none had been done in this country.
I think finding out abit more would be fair enough though.
-
I agree with Lynn - the most likely scenaro is that they were declawed overseas and then came to live in Aberdeen.
-
I agree I think the most likely scenario is that they have been brought into the country from the USA.
-
Yes I would think thats the case too, the only declawed cat I've had come in for grooming, was originally bought over from the US (the current owners didnt declaw her, they got her from rescue in the US, already declawed).
-
i'm sure that is the case too, was just such a surprise to see it in an ad!! and is a shame if their owner has been to the bother of bringing them over here before that they arent taking them with them whan they move now. but like people have said, no idea of the full story and impossible to guess from a few lines of writing. :innocent:

Here are some more from the Yahoo forum

It is strange though, when a pet is brought over to the UK from abroad they must be quarantined for 6 months, which is a lot of bother and stress on both sides, owner and the pet. If they were to get rid of the cat like this, I would think they would have done that before coming over.
-
The US has been part of the pet travel scheme from, I think, 2004. So assuming their jabs 'n' chip were in order they could have been brought to the UK any time after that without quarantine.
Still seems a shame though that they're not staying with their original owners, but I guess we don't know the full story. :(
-
Perhaps if they are moving onto yet another country they do not deem that location as suitable, or maybe no pets are allowed or maybe they know its only for a year or 2 and they dont want to be shipping the cats country yet again. I only say this as now knowing so many folk country hopping esp in the oil ind I can see many reasons why.
