Title: Got a confession to make !
Post by: Michelle (furbabystar) on October 23, 2007, 20:10:20 PM
I did something yesterday that i swore i would never do ..........
I bought Johnson 4fleas tablets  :shy:

Tramp is always scratching although he is done with Frontline and i was chatting with the man at the pet place where i get my litter and he said his cats had built up a resistance to Frontline..
Anyway, I bought the tablets and gave Tramp one last night and he hasnt scatched since!

I used to use 4Fleas but have to say I always found the fleas came back, even when treating the house to the point of obsession!  We're back on Frontline now and, touch wood, haven't seen a little visitor for ages, although that could be the cold weather.  By the way Michelle, if you do carry on with the 4Fleas, there's a seller on eBay who regularly sells them for half what they cost in the shops and is very quick with delivery  ;D

Cheers Berties Mum. I dont think i would use them for good as they anly kill what is on the cat at that time but it has stopped him scratching - funny thing is, none of the other cats scratch and there is no sign off Fleas on any of them or in the house.

Gill, that is what i will do for long term. I used to use Advanage years ago so might go back to that for a while.

I have to say Michelle that I did love the fact that when the 4Fleas tabs say they start working after 15 minutes, they REALLY do ... Bertie would just about settle down to sleep after the trauma of being forcefed a tablet, and then suddenly sit bolt upright and start scratching uncontrollably - very amusing (for me, not Bertram!)  ;D

Funny enough the fella in the shop said Tramp would go mad for about 10mins scratching as the fleas were dieing - but he didnt !!!
I dunno maybe there wasnt any fleas in the first place BUT he hasnt scratched since having the tablet ALL VERY STRANGE if you ask me

Capster has the same effect, starts working v.quickly. Its a veterinary approved treatment so you know its safe.

I use the capstar when I first take new strays in, as it does work like magic killing them immediately.   I then treat them with frontline a few days after they have settled down.

Are you certain it are fleas causing the itchiness for Tramp? If he's allowed out and has access to long grass & trees, it could just as well be harvest mites - though it's just about the end of the mite season now.

From what I've been told (vet & FAB) Frontline is the dosage of choice, but my experience with Pearl is that while Frontline reduces by some way the number of mites latching on, it does't get rig of the little blighters entirely.

If you can, I'd check Tramp's belly and toes (specially in between) and look for little orange spots just in case. If you do see some, then it is harvest mites that's causing the itchiness and well, there's not really that much you can do - rubbing affected areas with surgical spirit does help though.
