Title: High Fibre cat food
Post by: Maddiesmum on October 23, 2007, 12:42:01 PM: My cat needs to have a high fibre diet. The vet recommended an obesity food which my cat promptly sicked up. Anyone know of any commercial available high fibre foods please?

Post by: Mark on October 23, 2007, 13:49:37 PM: Most of the ones that are "anti-furball" have added fibre but not sure if it would be enough. Which obesity food was it? I tried Kylie on the Royal Canin but she didn' like it. She loves the Hill's one and had no trouble changing over. I know it has a lot of fibre as if you saw the litter tray after she has been, you would think I had a dog :evillaugh: - the smell is pretty rancid as well :sick:

Well with a home-made recipe I sometimes use, its 2 teaspoons to about 3lbs of meat, so only a teeny amount needed for a serving I guess.

Post by: Desley (booktigger) on October 23, 2007, 15:40:00 PM: I actually opted for feeding Molly a high fibre wet food, as she is very fussy with her food - she gets Perfect Fit Indoor and Asda Tiger Senior, they were the two highest I found in the shops. I did buy some bran from the Healthfood shop first, but she was fussy about it (she is fussy with food, wont touch treats),

Post by: Mark on October 24, 2007, 21:16:16 PM: I would be curious about what they use for fibre in high-fibre cat food. I would assume it is wheat bran as its the cheapest. It can irritate the bowel. I heard a nutritionist on a radio programme saying people think wheatgerm bread, allbran etc are good as they make you go to the toilet - but in fact it was because they irritate the lining of your bowel and your body tried to expel them :sick:
