As I walked in the back door yesterday after returning from holiday the phone rang, I picked it up and a man said my brother has gone in a nursing home and I have to get rid of his cat. I advised him that I had just walked in the door after returning from being away almost 3 weeks and that I would find out the position and ring him tomorrow. I also said that I know we were having 3 new pens put up today (which is now yesterday) and although we had cats waiting to come in I would bring in the cat. I asked him if he could take the cat to our vets which has a branch about 6 miles from him and he said he had no transport and did not know anyone with any. He then said it is full of fleas so I will take the cat to the vet (meaning for PTS) I advised him that fleas can soon be 'sorted' and there would be no need to PTS. I assured him again I would ring him today and take the cat in and the fact that he had no transport would not be a problem. I tried to contact Suzanne who was having the new pens but she was out so left a message on her answerphone to ring me, about 30 mins late she did, I explained the position and asked her to phone the man immediately, she did but unfortunately he said he had called his nearest vets and asked then to pick up the cat and PTS. (Unfortunately I cannot post my thoughts about him as Tan would not be too pleased). Suzanne immediately tried to ring the vet concerned but the were closed. After a sleepless night she rang them at 8.30 a.m. and fortunately the vet said he could not PTS for the reasons given and that they would keep it 24 hrs to see if they could find it a home. As I am sure you must have guessed by now the little one will be the first new resident in Suzanne's pens, it is being picked up from Bakewell in a couple of hours or so and will be taken straight to out vets for a MOT and treatment to what appears to be a long standing eye problem.

What a :censored: idiot - why didn't he at least have the patience to wait?
Grrrr.... what a heartless man. I'm sure his brother would be very proud of him (note sarcasm!)

:welcome:
Well, welcome back from holiday Ela – what a welcome!
Judging by the state of the cat I dread to think what condition that guy’s brother was in when he went into the Nursing Home.
“Get rid of the cat” it is not even his to get rid of – what would his brother think?
Anyway, welcome back and good luck with this one.
:luck:

Thank God the vet was a good one and didn't do the deed.
HEYYYY this little darling testing out the new pen, how fab.
Lets hope the brother left a will which states. The cat gets EVERYTHING. So horrid bro, it all goes to the cats home.
-
Awww. Bet it doesn't know what a close call it's had either. As soon as it got to the vets people will have cooed over it I would think. (And rightly so!)
Good luck finding this little one a new home.

Shame on this guy for wanting to PTS this poor babe, I'm glad the vet didn't do the deed, poor baby :(

strange how he had no transport but managed to get the cat to another vet for PTS. :censored: What an appalling thing to do. Clearly no love lost between those brothers. :censored: :censored: :censored:

I was told today about a similar thing. A "man" (In the loosest term) had called to say his mother had gone into a nursing home and the cat needed to go. He was told that there was a list etc until it transpired he had sold the house, it was completely empty with not a stick of furniture and had been in the house like this for 3 months with him just going in once a day for a few minutes to feed. Naturally the cat was rescued and is highly traumatised. She is being cared for now and will not be rehomed until she is over her terrible ordeal. One of the volunteers has the address of the nursing home where the lady is and is going to write to her to let her know the cat is fine. She is unable to tell her what the son has done as the lady loves her cat to bits and it would hurt her too much to know what a :censored: her son is :'( . There are so many heartless "people" out there.

Hope you had a great holiday, Ela, and welcome back. Although I am distraught at this account. Please keep us posted about the little one.

:welcome: back Ela.
Thank you vet and like the one who saved Misas life there are some caring ones around. ;D
Lets us know how the little cat is.
-
Aww, the poor babe, at least it will be safe now, do let us know. And welcome back!!
-
He is an unneutered tom 2 -3 yrs old (oops I have forgotten what his name is) he is a little traumatised just now so the vet wants to wait a in a week or two to test him and do 'the deed' He has flea dermatitis and may need one eye out, however, the decision will be made in a couple of weeks after he has received lots of TLC.
-
Welcome back Ela, hope you had a nice holiday.
Thankfully you were there to take that call!
-
WEll, it is a good job he has come into rescue then, at least he will get neutered and his health issues sorted out.
