Title: help - sicky kitten!
Post by: tweety on October 04, 2007, 17:24:52 PM
excuse me if im being completely paranoid but this is my first kitten.

Tigger is 8wk old.  ive had him about 5 days now.  The first two days, (i think) he was sick, once each day.  Then today he has done it again.  I've just noticed he has like brown sleep in the corner of one eye and on the same side of face just outside his nostril.  I wouldnt say he is eating enough (about 1 kitten pouch per day).  Should i be worried?

has he been wormed, flead etc? If not then do that. But i would also be inclined to hot-foot it to the vet so you can be confident he is not going to come down sick over the weekend. He is too young to mess around with.

A vet check would be good, at the same time you can find out about worm and flea treatments. Supermarket brands are useless.

Does Tigger have any dry food? My last kitten was eating around a pouch aday and some biscuits. You could always weigh him every few days if you are worried.

Bearing his age i would get vet app ASAP
Kittens that age can go down hill very quickly (sorry not trying to frighten you)

Leo gets dirty eyes & nose from eating his wet food.. I have to clean him up when he is sleeping.. of course it could be something else so best to get the little one from the vets to be sure ;)

he seems to have perked up A LOT. he didnt eat much yesterday but am thinking he doesnt like chicken.  The day i got him i tried feeding him asda tiger chicken and he wouldnt touch it.  I just thought it was cause it was a different brand but i gave him felix chicken yesterday.  I changed his food that was out and he ate quite a bit of the turkey one.  No he wont touch the dried food i got but that's got chicken in it as well.  Was worried he wasnt drinking either so put some kitten milk out for him.  There is also the possibility he was just tierd.  Seems fine now, trying to eat my hands again lol.  Got some worming stuff from a pet shop so gonna do that today.

Thanx for the advice  ;)

to be honest tweety with him being so young I would NOT use the worm or flea treatment from the pet shops........ there have been instances where they have caused reactions in little kittens and cats...... the best place tp get this kind of thing is from the vet.

Are you feeding kitten food as cat food will be too strong and give him a tummy ache resulting in not wanting to eat

The vet nurse will do a free health check, are you having him vaccinated

Hope he improves

I've been dealing with a batch of tinies like Tigger.  :Luv:

Worming and flea treatment is very much dependent on the weight of the kitten. With the real small ones, I take them down to the vet and ask them to weigh. Mostly they need half of a milbemax or drontal, which the vet is happy to help them swollow. They can also have Frontline flea spray which the vet will do, but NOT the pipette as it's too toxic for tinies. Don't waste your money of pet shop stuff - it's for mugs!  ;)

He's a tad young to be having food fads.  :evillaugh: What did his breeder or fosterer feed him? That's usually a good starting point to establish what his tum can handle.  :sneaky:
