Mosi has a poorly paw :( He was fine this morning but when I got in from work tonight he is sitting holding it up. He can walk on it but with a slight limp. When I hold his paw he doesn't flinch or seem to be in pain. He's fine in every other way. He's eaten his tea and will swipe at a toy if I wave it around (with both his poorly paw and his well paw). I don't think it's a rush off to the vets job, but what would you experts advise doing? Should I book him a vet appt straight away or see how he goes for a few days?
-
Well I would wait until tomorrow and see how he is then cos its friday again the next day !
-
With all the usual caveats, my own instinct is to be guided by appetite and energy, on which basis it sounds as if Mosi may have thwacked his paw only?
When Blip had a limp ages ago, it turned out she had a swollen gland, presumably caused by an infected injury on her leg, but she was listless and in obvious pain then.
I hope the little fella recovers speedily, whatever the cause. He is in the wars at the moment, isnt he?

any chance he could have been copying Smidgen and trying flying lessons from high places. He could have crash-landed and have just strained it a bit. The keep an eye on it and see the vet before the weekend if needed approach would be my advice.
-
Well he's been runnng around chasing the laser and he can jump onto the kitchen worktops! he is still limping and holding his paw up though, so obviously something a bit wrong. But not wrong enough to stop him putting weight on it if he needs to. I'd guess he's either landed awkwardly when jumping down from a high place or hurt it in a play fight with Jaffa. He doesn't go outside so that limits the options. I'll keep an eye on it and if he's still limping on Friday I'll book an appt to take him to the vets then.

Susanne check his claws ... he may have either caught one on something and ulled it a bit or he may have broken one / chewed it a bit short which may be hurting him.
Hope he feels better soon xxxx

Aah - I've found something. Theres a mark on his paw pad (big one in the middle). Hard to tell whether it's a cut or what, but it looks healed up (not bleeding). He won't keep his paw still for me to look at properly (not because it hurts, just because he's lying on my lap wanting a snooze and not to have me messing with his paws). Doesn't look too serious. I'll bathe it for him and keep an eye on it.

It may have sealed over with something sharp inside.....have you broken any glass in the last few months?
Last night I was wandering through my kitchen without shoes as I do all the time and suddenly yeowwwwwww and I thought there maybe a liitle stone but when I put my foot down it was terrible and there was a tiny piece od glass stuck in my heel! I last broke glass in there months ago and have been walking on that same mat without a problem!
-
It's quite a small cut and it doesn't seem to hurt him when I touch it or bathe it, but I'll see what it looks like tomorrow. There's no broken glass aruond that I know of, and there are no signs of blood anywhere.
-
It definitely seems to be a small cut and the main problem is he's got some litter stuck to it - any suggestions for how to get that off? He's walking and jumping on it fine this mornig.
-
Warm water ..... should shift the litter.
-
It's clumping litter though, so water just makes it clump harder. It's not a deep cut and there's only a small amount of litter, but I think the litter is in the cut which can't be a good thing.
It's not bothering him much today but I'm keeping an eye on it.
-
im sure i replied to this thread - it wasnt much help so I wont bother re-writing !
Hope puddy is better soon xx
-
Hope Mosi is better today
-
Even clumping litter will dissolve if you use enough water ... I would immerse Mosi's paw in water water and give it a gentle rub.
-
Hope you have managed to dislodge it.
-
It's pretty much dislodged. I dunked his paw in water and rubbed it off. Opened up the cut a bit, but it's not a deep cut so no bleeding. I just need it to close up now before he gets more litter in it. Problem is that it's very fine litter so there are bits tracked all over the place. Fingers crossed it will be ok now.
-
I'm sure now you have got this bits out Mosi will be able to keep the cut clean himself but I would keep an eye on him.
Rossi sends her yummy scrummy jim jam case and big furry headbutt and says get well soon xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx
-
Mosi thanks Rossi :Luv: and says he hopes she doesn't mind that he's so accident prone! ;D
I have no idea what he cut his paw pad on in the first place, as he doesn't go outside. I can find no sign of broken glass or anything sharp. Maybe it was a scratch from a claw when he's been rolling around the floor with Jaffa.
-
Oh no she doesn't mind at all ..... she quite likes the fact that he's a bit of a "fool" (in the nicest possible way!)
