Title: Kittens in pet shop - Urmston, Manchester
Post by: Beccles on September 28, 2007, 19:06:29 PM
Saw 2 wee lovelies in Urmston Pet Centre today.

Brother and sister apparently, VERY timid, listless, one has a mucky eye. I managed to get one out for a cuddle for a bit, nice girl on the till made sympathetic noises and has taken my number if she can persuade the manager not to sell them. She said they were 8 weeks - not too sure about that, they were v small and still had their 'baby' tails.

What do I do now?

RSPCA is one route .... or as Gill says, rescue them.  Of course if you rescue these they will only go and get more in.

Personally I would call the RSPCA immediately and report it as a cruelty case.

If they look poorly then the RSPCA would be the best one's to contact.  If you don't get any joy, let me know as I may know someone that can help.

I won't buy them. As you said, they'll only get more. Self-perpetuating cycle.

Thanks, Christine, although I don't think it's really an 'omg emergency need home' situation, at least not as I saw it - more a general problem about pet shops and kittens and these particular individuals.

Hi Phone your local trading standards and tell them as I don't think you are allowed to sell kittens in a pet shop anyway and also they can go down and see if they are kept right if not they can close the pet shop down.

Sadly you are allowed to sell kittens Kelly, you just have to have a special licence.

Really I didn't know that. I would still phone them as they can go see if the kittens and other animals are kept right or not.
