Hello all
We are not officially the branch that covers Folkestone in Kent, but a vet that i was told about by a friend, has a two year old tabby puss, very affectionate, he has FIV..
Nobody has room to take him and as far as i am aware no one is helping either.. I have just spoken to the vets and they have had him for a week, he is neutered, but as yet not vac or anything.. Unofficially becaues they were not willing to tell me but have our welfare officer, he has the weekend or early week to find a home before they decide to PTS.. I have tried one lady who rang me up yesterday regarding kittens that we have decided is a no go due to her living on a very busy road.. So although this is one option, its my only one..
He is called Paddy.. I have no photo and unlikely to get one as the vets only had one via mobile not a digitial one or anything.
Can anyone help?
With our two FIV cats in our care and all the kittens we just have no room to put such a puss, and am abit annoyed that no other branch can help either.
Please post here or email me if you want to know more.. Even if we can get him out the vets that would help...
Thanks

OH the poor little man.
I bet he is a handsome devil - Being tabby, I do have a soft spot for tabbies. They have that certain je ne sais qua
I so hope someone comes up trumps for him, All bits tightly and firmly crossed.there has to be someone out there that can take him, there just has to be.
Positive homing vibes being sent to Paddy xxxxxxx

I wonder if Lord Whisky sanctuary would be able to help?
I will phone them if you want me to - just let me know.

Mark I think you should see if you can get him a place. All bits crossed. I feel usless, all I can do is hope and pray.

Although the cats interest is the important thing, I have to be careful not to step on toes (I will stamp on them if need be to help a cat! )
Anyway, I have called and left a message. They may even be able to offer a temporary solution if nothing else?
-
Oh fingers crossed for this poor baby :(
I will be thinking of Paddy today - wish I lived nearer :(

I am more then happy for people to help ring around, as i am finding it difficult to cope at the moment with the sheer volumn of calls. My house looks like a tip! its been a busy week here and could do with some more help really..
Can someone try Foal?
Also beware of some organisation PTS policy for FIVs. you have to ask first.. Trouble is i have no way to transport anywhere, having trouble getting load of kittens to Bredhurst as it is..
So any calls anyone can make much appreciated.
-
I will try Foal Sharon - still waiting for Lord Whisky to get back. I check and they have a no-kill policy
Edit - I spoke to Foal Farm. They already have several FIV cats in. People are out at the moment but the lady will call back in a hour. She asked if he had been vacced. I said no but if that was the only issue, we could sort that out - hope that was OK?
-
Mark I am sure it will be - I will donate something toward Paddy injections if needed.
Gone all goose pimply and cold here and have stingy eyes. I SO hope they can take him - xx

I'll dontate towards injections as well if needed.
-
Yes thats fine, as i pushed the vet to say that if we were able to home him then would they be prepared to vac him.. She said it wouldnt be a problem (free of charge hopefully!) also if need be i will push to get him chipped!!
-
No calls from either yet but I will phone Sharon and post update as soon as I hear.
If the worst comes to the worst, would he be able to share with conker temporarily?
-
It would help Foal if he could be vacinnated.
They have taken many FIVs from me and I have paid for the vac as it helps them out alot.
Fingers crossed with an answer (I know they are very very full at the moment)
Have you tried Romney house ?
Hang on.......just had another thought !!
I'll make a phone call - be back soon xxxx
-
Ok just made a phone call but that place is full to bursting too :censored:
The lady said have you tried "Bredhurst" ?
Its down in Kent and has an FIV unit
I did say that you would prob already know about the place being in kent yourselfs but thought i'd post it anyway.
I gotta ring this women back later as she is going to make a few phone calls and see if she can come up with anything
-
I so hope a place can be found for this little one.
-
Bredhurst is also full and although has an FIV unit it has limited space.. They are also taking our Chislet ferals, so i do not with to push my luck with them...
Not doing terribly well for this puss, as everyone is bursting at the seams..
-
Bredhurst is the Kent CP shelter :(
-
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for Paddy. I hope somewhere can be found for him soon.

Sharon has asked me to post an appeal for transport from Folkestone to Biggin Hill (or part journey) on Monday. I would do it myself but my B&B is busy during the week and I am managing single-handed so can't get away.
-
Hello all
Thanks for everyones efforts i am so glad to hear this.. Now the skill is getting him for A to B and thats not going to be an easy task.. Will talk to vets in the morning, but i am sure they will vac and chip. Will need their cooperation for this, but at least he has a placement... Poor mite..
Let us hope that Conker also has some good fortune as well now...!
-
Brilliant !!!!
He will do well at Foal, wonderful place.
If you remember lilly (the pregnant cat was bought off the internet) she went there, had her babies and then was rehomed.
Foal have never let me down.....they have taken many cats in for me

Well if push comes to shove and we dont get a volunteer, we could club together for a minicab?
-
Is there anyone on Purrs who lives perhaps in Ashford area that in the remote possibility would be able to get him to Biggin Hill from there?
A long shot but maybe!
-
Cat Chat forum is back up and I have just cross-posted on there under Rescue and Rehoming.
-
Yes we could Christine and it would be a one way journey ;D
Saw your post on CC, quick thinking well done ;D

-
Michelle I hope you got my email?
-

I'm not too up on all this but should he have a sample sent to glasgow to check? - it would make so much difference if he can be rehomed normally.
-
I think thats the case with FeLV but dont know about FIV or is it the other way round grrrrrrrrrrr
Going to look in our LInks cos we have the glasgow site in there.
-
I cannot be sure but i think the vet that Paddy is at does use the Glasgow tests anyhows.. But will check.. but really he was a full tom so it dosnt surprise me at all he turned out to be FIV.. Also i think he was picked up from a cluster area of known FIV strays so chances are they are right...
But i will check tomorrow. In the meantimes i am going to call it a day! Because totally knackered!
-
This is the answer from the Glasgow site :
FIV tests
There are many tests available for FIV. All tests involve taking a sample of blood from the cat. Usually, the sample is then tested for antibodies to FIV: most FIV infected cats have antibodies. Your veterinary surgeon may perform the test in his or her practice laboratory, so that you have a result very quickly, or may send the blood off to a commercial laboratory such as Companion.
The gold standard test is the immunofluorescent antibody test (IFAT) used by Companion at the University of Glasgow Veterinary School and all cats tested positive by one of the quick in-practice tests should be confirmed by this test. The IFAT has an internal negative control to avoid false positive results, and if the control shows that something is wrong, a further test called a western blot is performed for no further charge.
Some cats that are infected with FIV are negative by antibody tests. There are three possible explanations for this finding: sometimes the cats are in the first 12 weeks after infection and have not yet made antibodies; sometimes because they are dying and are no longer able to make antibodies; or the antibodies they do have are bound to virus within their body and cannot bind to virus in the test. In such cases, virus can be grown by a specialist laboratory and virus isolation is a further diagnostic test which is sometimes done on cats which are suspected of being infected with FIV, but who give a negative antibody test.
As stated above, FIV infected cats have a deficiency of CD4+ cells, therefore have a decreased CD4+/CD8+ ratio (the CD8+ is another kind of white blood cell). It is possible that a decline in CD4+/CD8+ ratio is a poor prognostic sign for a cat, and this hypothesis is being investigated further by scientists.
So I think yes is the answer to your question Mark.
-
Thanks Gill, some info did remain. My brain still has a few cells left. Although it is not up to taking in the technical stuff. Lets hope there is some hope for Paddy being 2 years old :(
-
I pray for Paddy,he is so young :(, i donate towards his transport if needed, just let me know.
-
Michelle I hope you got my email?
Yes got email - Will make phone call tomorrow xxxx
-
Just to let everyone know -
A plan is now in action, Debbie is collecting Paddy from the vets on Wednesday - I am then meeting her for the hand over and taking him to FoalFarm.
I have just spoken to the Vets, they say he is a lovely cuddly cat who deserves a second chance.
Well Done to Sharon, Mark, Debbie and everyone else involved in this xxxxxxxxxxx
-
Oh this is wonderful news and I hope that he gets a new home very quickly ;D
-
Don't forget to post a kittypic Michelle :evillaugh:
I was thinking the same as you, get the opposition to step in and show how wonderful they are :-:
Edit to say the 2nd line was to do with the Olympic thread - must have posted it in error :-[
-
Michelle.
I twisted the vets arm and they will vac him and CHIP him for us..I felt we should get as much out of this for our troubles. The vets sound very nice and want to thank all for helping them.. One of the vets was especially pleased as he had taken a shine to old Paddy.... but had 5 cats of h is own.
I hope this ends in a lovely ending.....
Sharon
-
Good luck with him tomorrow Michelle and DON'T FORGET YOUR CAMERA!!! :evillaugh:

Camera is in bag ready !!
Well done with the vac and mirco-chip sharon, makes life easier for Foal.
