Don't know how you're going to get through the next 24 hours!

I must admit that when the time actually came, my excitement with getting Mosi was tinged with nervousness about how Jaffa would react.

aah  have fund Lisa, Tilly is the only one I've had since kitten hood and she screamed all the way home!  Hopefully your Leo will be a good boy and go to sleep.  Also she didn't use the litter tray for 24 hours and I was scared there was something wrong with her but apparently they do that sometimes when they move - good luck, can't wait to hear all about him

Im just getting everything prepared as we gotta leave early in morn..

Using Worlds Best Litter & I didnt realise how fine it was ? How deep should it be ? Does everyone use Liners too as I didnt get any of those.. surley if the tray is kept spotlessly clean I shouldnt need them ?

Listen to me im panicing now !! Anxious as I want everything ready for Him & Excited (SO VERY EXCITED) all at the same time !!!!

This kitten means so much to me, he really does & I havent got him here yet!

He will fill the gap & make my little flat home (Once neighbours from Hell go)..  He will hopefully be my best little buddy for many years  :Luv:

 :ahh:
Title: Re: This time tomorrow !!!
Post by: Tiggy's Mum on September 21, 2007, 22:11:06 PM
It works the same way as Chick Crumbs (you know you want to try them really!) so it needs to be as deep as possible.  I don't use liners, the chick crumbs are deep so the wee never touches the bottom.  I clean the tray with antibacterial Fairy as I don't like the idea of harsh chemicals anywhere near anything the boys will be touching.

Am excited for you, it's bringing it all back!  Have you got Feliway spray for his carrier?
Title: Re: This time tomorrow !!!
Post by: lisa77 on September 21, 2007, 22:26:02 PM
Yeah I got the WBCL cheap so I will get through that then I will defo get the chick crumb.

I did read about Feliway Spray ages ago on one of the posts & I forgot to get some ..is it essential ? Journey is about an hour & half to back from getting him. I have just padded the carrier out with a fleece blanket, put in a few toys for him.. is there anything else he will need. I worry about the tiniest things..

While I was getting carrier ready I looked at it & its bright pink. As this isnt a 'calming' colour is this going to distress him ? ?  I even stuck my head in for a while to see what it was like - if anyone had of seen me im sure they would of   their knickers off !!!!   :evillaugh:

I was going to put his catnip cushion in but im not sure we want that kind of mood.. we want relaxed on the way home dont we ? Ive got a feeling he will cry all the way home  :-:

 :thanks: hon

Wouldn't worry about not having Feliway, I can't say if it works or not as have used it from day one with the boys so don't know what they'd be like without it - they're bad enough with it so not going to risk not using it!  I'm sure Leo will be just fine with his pink carrier, fleecy blanket sounds good - have you got anything cuddly you could put in for him to snuggle up to?  It'll be the first time for him away from his brothers and sisters so it will be nice for him to cuddle up to a toy or something.  I'd leave the catnip until playtime at home, I read somewhere not all kittens react to catnip until they are 6 months-ish but Lu & Ri got excited by it way before 6 months.

As for him crying on the journey, when the boys went in the car for the first time they were as quiet as mice to begin with...  then the meowling began from Riley with intermittent squeaks from Lukey  :evillaugh:  He got himself so worked up he was sick on Lukey, he then fell asleep for most of the journey and was right as rain when we got home.

Post by: lisa77 on September 21, 2007, 22:43:45 PM
Ive got him a few cuddlies too so will add one of them.. Ahh they must miss their mum terribly for a short while, as probably does the mum miss the kittens.

His last litter mate went 2 days ago.. It will make me feel awful taking the last baby from the mother.

Thanks for your help I must go to bed now as this will be my last full nights sleep in a while so I intend to make the most of it !!!

 :Luv: :Luv: Leo  :Luv: :Luv:

I bet Mum can't wait to see the back of the kittens, 12 weeks is a LOOOOOONG time  :evillaugh:
Title: Re: This time tomorrow !!!
Post by: Susanne (urbantigers) on September 21, 2007, 23:13:04 PM
When I brought Mosi home he screamed his head off all the way.  The journey should have taken a little over an hour, but I got stuck in a traffic jam on the motorway and it ended up being about 3 hrs.  Not a pleasant journey!

I remember asking the breeder when I got Mosi whether his mum would miss him and was told that she didn't bother with the kittens much any more (he was 14 weeks when I collected him) and would probably be glad to see the back of them.  The breeder will probably miss the kittens more than their mum!

re the litter - is the breeder using WBCL?  You'd be best using what he's used to to start with - the breeder will probably give you some to take home.  You do need WBCL (or any clumping litter really) to be quite deep.  I don't use WB or chick crumbs (yet!) but I use fine, clumping litter and fill the tray to a depth of 3"- 4"

Bet you're soooo excited!  ;D

Xanthe was fine on her trip to us - a couple of hours by car / train / tube / bus! She did manage to smear poo all over carrier / herself - meant lots of space on all transport! Sadly her first experience in new home was a bath to get it off her - but she rallied well. Enjoy Leo's first day with you!

Hey guys !!

sorry - havent got time to read responses as yet.. I will tonight.. Just to let you all know he had only 2 Meows on the way home.. one thing that did worry me tho was he was panting like a dog.. I figured he was hot so opened the windows more !

At the mo he is asleep in his cat tree bed !!! He doesnt seem that fussed with his toys.. he turned his nose up!!!

Also Breeder said she had dicovered a mole onhis cheek ! it looks just like one of our moles - Funny !

Is that he is sleeping a good sign ?

 :Luv: :Luv:
Title: Re: This time tomorrow !!!
Post by: blackcat on September 22, 2007, 12:58:28 PM
the panting is a fear reaction. The sleeping is a good thing as it gives kitty a chance to recover from the stress of the journey. Just leave him/her be until s/he is ready to come to you. Shouldn't take too long  ;D

Aw bless him!  You'll probably be playing for the rest of the day now!

When I brought Mosi home I placed him in his litter tray, he bounced out of that so I waved a feather on the end of a wand in front of him and he went mad for it.  There followed at least 4 hours of manic play!  Even when he was struggling to keep his eyes open he would jerk himself awake for a bit more play!  ;D

He has explored everywhere now, has been for a wee in his litter tray and had a few biscuits from his bowel & now playing again !

Im so glad, he seems at home allready.. I was amazed how he just strolled over to the litter tray & did a wee.

He has a poohy bum (tiny bit) but will he let me clean it off? No ! Going to have to get him while he is asleep !  :Luv:

Bless him.  Cats often get the runs when they're stressed or in a new environment so his pooey bum may just be that.  Just keep an eye on it.  Glad he's feeling at home!  ;D

I didnt either! Its right under his bottom lip!  Not sure if its been seen by the vet but he going on Monday for a kitty check so I know everything is OK.

Well he is still bouncing off of the walls ! I have never seen a kitten so hyperactive ! He sprints into the bedroom so I will go in & play with him.. go back into the living room & he will meow twice & if I dont go back he will stroll back in & shoot into his tunnell (which may I add was a genius buy for £3 !)

He is looking at himself in the mirror but can he actually see thereself ?

No poohs as yet but he has weed twice & has eaten like a trooper.. Gave him a little wet food at about 6 & then put some the dry food back down & he even ate some of that !

 ;D

cant wait to see him
Title: Re: Heres here !
Post by: blackcat on September 23, 2007, 08:14:27 AM
yes they seem to be able to see another cat there in the mirror. They will try to engage iwth it, and when it does not respond will try to look around the back of the mirror to find it. So make sure the mirror is safely secured or you will have seven years bad luck and some difficult glass to dispose of.

Well the 1st night is over ! I couldnt ask for a better kitten.  Shut him in the living room with his food. litter & toys  & didnt hear a peep out of him all night. this morning I opened the living room door & he was sleepingin his little cat tree bed !

Its funny - if I go into another room & he cant see me he will speak !

Im over the moon.. will find out where my cable is for pc & add the piccies !  :Luv:

Hurry up with those piccies  :wow:

Well the 1st night is over... didnt hear a peep out of him all night.

I remember it well, the first night with the boys here was so peaceful - they were in the spare room...  How I wish I'd kept it that way! From night 2 to the current day I'm probably lucky if I get 5 hours sleep  :tired:  Seriously though Lisa, if you don't want him sleeping in your bedroom at night then start as you mean to go on, I let the boys in my bedroom as I wanted to be with them 24/7 as they're my special boys BUT if I ever decide that I'd like to perhaps sleep in the early hours of the morning and close the door all I get is manic wailing and carpet ripping.  In hindsight I should have really shut them out of the bedroom at night from day one, oh well too late now!

if you want any sleep at all tonight I suggest you leave waking him up until a couple of hours before bedtime. That way he will be exhausted just as you are going to bed...
Title: Re: Updated piccies now Leos home !

Title: Re: Updated piccies now Leos home !
Post by: blackcat on September 23, 2007, 16:14:58 PM
that's usually what happens at my place >:( But if you give them a bit of a run-around a while before you go to bed (so they are not stll over-excited like kids) then they will usually collapse. And if they wake up and no-one is moving, with any luck they wil go back to sleep. Doesn't always work of course, but worth a try...

Ahhh  :Luv:  he's adorable and looks so cute in his cat tree  ;D

The first night I had Mosi was the best night's sleep I've had since I got him  ;D  He tucked himself under my chin and slept there all night.  Then on night 2 he decided that night time was great for exploring  8)

I do sometimes wish I'd shut him out from the start, but when it works out I'm glad I have them in the bedroom.  They were both good last night and I woke up about 7am this morning (didn't go to bed til 2am) to find Jaffa asleep one side of me and Mosi tucked up under the duvet next to me the other side.

oh Lisa he sounds lovely, glad he is settling in so well, I'm glad he was good on the journey as well.  I didn't say earlier because I didn't want to worry you but my journey home with Tilly was hellish, she threw herself at the front of the cat basket for over an hour all the way home and shredded all her claws leaving little bloody stumps, I honestly thought they would never grow back!!  they did!

oh Dawn bless !  He made more of a fuss going to the vets just now than he did on the way home from picking him up !

Vet said it will be about £50 to remove mole.. but she said it was a groth rather than a mole.. & She would of asked for another £50 off - I didnt even think about the money. Just bowled over by him..  :Luv:
