Title: Blood in poo
Post by: Felix (Caroline) on September 20, 2007, 11:38:02 AM
Hiya worried about Simba, just watched him go the toilet outside in his litter den and there was blood in it, the last couple of days caught him having a poo in the sink don't know if that has anything to do with it,he has been a bit quieter the past couple of days. He was neutered a couple of weeks ago, will have to ring the vets and see whats wrong :(

Hopefully its nothing serious, just a minor irritation or something like that.  Let us know what the vet says

Others will have more in depth advice i'm sure, but i'd be making an appointment at the vets just to get everything checked out

Hope he's feeling better soon

how did it go at the vets?

I had this with my new cats a couple of weeks ago. They have been on 2 courses of antibiotics since they came to me. The blood cleared up within a day but one of them is still having very runny poo so may be another trip to the vet :(

Hope all is settled with you now..

Hi Felix, my little girl Bengal Mellika has had this from time to time and the vets have said that it is nothing for us to worry about, just a slight irritation.  Hope the visit to the vets goes well.  Are your babies all recovered from being "done" ?

Marly had this a few years ago & he has never ever poohed in the house before. he did it in the lounge. Vet gave him anti biotics & he said he prob poohed there so we would see & realise there was a problem.. he got back on track in no time hon  :)

Edit : actually thinking back did he have anti biotics ?? I think it was a bladder infection he had.. either way he was fine xx

Glad to hear he's ok.  Bertie has had blood in his poo every few months ever since he was a tiny kitten ... vet says it's a blood vessel that keeps bursting for no real reason, but it's horrible to see and worries me every time!  he's fighting fit though  ;D

The vet gave him more antibiotis different ones this time,he recons that it could be caused by stress after being neutered,he is just not playing like the other two and been off his food, but he still seems to eat the white tuna and prawn meal which I give him sometimes as a treat. The vet said I didn't need to change his diet or anything,if these antibiotis don't work he will have to have blood tests :'( does anyone know how much blood test are? :'(

Hiya,

I don't know if that's helpful at all, but Mia had blood in her poo when she was a tiny kitten. The vet said it was because her food was too rich (it was whiskas kitten), so I moved her to something different (james wellbeloved, hilife, burns, nature's menu, that kind of thing...) and she's been fine since. Hope he gets better!

My little Frostie (now sadly at the Bridge) had this problem on and off for years and the vet said it was the equivalent of human piles.   She did have a very sensitive (persian) tummy and perhaps strained at times but was otherwise healthy and extremely active.  Well meaning neighbours gave her milk and left over battered fish to 'fatten her up' despite my explaining she was on a speicial diet.  Once day I just exploded at them and poor babe had a big tag with 'please don't feed me' until they finally realised they were making her ill.
