Franta birman often worries me and he is quite deaf but have noticed that he seems to 'like' to sit and stare at walls.
I have seen him on the sofa facing the wrong way......lokoing at the back and today in the green house he sat and stared at a pile of boxes.
If it was Misa I would know he was watching something and he would chatter and be generally a cat but its not like that with Franta. The last cat I saw do things like this was my Kocka when she was going blind and very ill.
Franta was at the vets for his annual check up only 4 or so weeks ago and was pronounced fit and healthy.

I am sure that he is, then
Is there anything he could be sulking about? How long has he been staring at odd things?
-
For a while to be honest but it really registered when we were in the greenhouse today. He wasnt sulking then cos he had been on my lap and chose to get off, very strange thing for |Franta to choose ;D
Yes he does sulk and he gets angry at me too, he is a birman and I am just the slave

Perhaps you had the temerity to shift your position or sigh or something?
Not to make light of your concerns, though. I defer to others who may have experienced something similar but from the evidence available, especially the successful vet check-up ;D , I suspect some disruption in Frantas territory.

Thanks Christine ;D

people who are going deaf tend to start to retreat into their own little world, maybe Franta is doing that? He could just be sitting there daydreaming about some great mouse-stalking he once did, or wondering what's for dinner.
-
I can't offer any advice Gill but I am sure he's fine :)
My son was deaf when he was wee and he often sat and stared as he had no sound distractions.
Sending Franta lots of cuddles for being so handsome :Luv:
-
Thanks all, maybe he does live in his own little world, I have often thought that.
he seems to be able to hear certain sounds but not others and when i think he is kedding me, I try stuff behind his back and not an ear twitch unless its very loud.
he also shouts at me a lot and I guess he is so loud so he can hear himself .........sigh
-
I wouldn't worry - both of my cats do that and they can hear fine. They can spend hours staring at random things - the gap under the front door is their favourite. Theres nothing there - I know because I stood and watched too. So did my husband.
I figure either we're all a bit odd or its some cunning feline plan to take over the world. More likely, however, is they saw or felt something, and are sitting waiting for it to happen again.
-
One of my cats does this also and i often wonder is her hearing abit dodgy :-: Mind you i have a habit of doing it also

Franta is just strange and he will sit beside me on a chair but face the back, I think he just must be in his own little world but its kinda sad :(
-
:Luv: and  to Franta. I am sure he's just telling you he needs to chill for while.
-
I do hope so Ruth ;D
-
Menue does that too!! She has a favourtie spot on the wall by the settee!! And by the computer screen, which scarily, is where I felt cold spots!
-
Well you know that cats are renowned for their perception ;) Max will sit and stare at a certain bit of the lounge, it always makes a little part of me wonder if there's a presence he's picked up on or something ......... its given me goosebumps even thinking about it :evillaugh:
-
Oh my :shify: :shify:
-
Baggins does it too. Although it turns out he was surveying for an extension for his and Bilbo's bachelor pad :shy:
