.... I've finally found a local stockist, and have bought some today to see how Max gets on with it.
Can you really flush the poop etc away? It all sounds too good to be true :evillaugh:
Now I have a wheelie bin I'm conscious of not putting to much heavy stuff in there (and a bag of cat litter is pretty heavy lol), so need to try and make a change.
Wish me luck ;D
-
yes you really can flush it, its very good!! I used to use it but Gillian got me on to the crumb!
-
On the subject of flushing poos does any one have problems with floaters? Petunias poo sinks like a brick yet millys just wont go away >:(
Worlds best works best if you keep it nice and deep ;)
-
I'm keeping the crumb nice a deep but makes for some very heavy trays LOL ;)
-
I have not seen Barry in his litter tray for weeks! maybe its time to get rid! just dont want him having any accidents!
-
i have just tried worlds best and its good to flush but it stinks , it has a really strange awful smell the litter when clean
-

Best to keep it. Its the quickest way to pick up on cystitis.
I wouldnt say WBCL smells awful when new, a fairly neutrel smell really.
-
It tracks everywhere, I'm buying a dustbuster tomorrow to help this though (my vac is too heavy to carry up the steps every day!).
And yes very flushable!
-
The crumbs from mine don't track around the flat but the boys clean there feet at the front of the trays so there is that to hoover but not around the flat
-
That was the trouble I had with Worlds Best was the tracking but now I'm on the chick crumbs it's marvellous, hardly any mess now. I actually find the Chick Crumbs better than Worlds Best and the cats seem to love it.
-

The crumbs don't go far, just in front of the bathroom and my husband must wear socks... which means he actually tracks it all over not the cats ;)
Still, dustbuster tonight! I'm all excited...
-
I have bought Worlds Best Cat Litter for when Leo gets home. I must addmitt it was the flushing down the toilet that sold it for me. As im in a top floor flat I couldnt think of anything worse than trapsing up & down 3 flights of stairs everytime he does a number 2 !
-
Consider the chick crumb as it is just like WB but is about a tenth of the price :)
-
and flushable ? :innocent:
-
where can yopu get the chick crumbs from? Wouldn't mind trying them :wow:
-
Yep flushable :) I get mine from a pet food wholesalers for 5.50 a 20k bag but Jolleyes do it for 7.50 a 20kg bag so still way cheaper than WBCL still, there are loads of threads on here about chick crumbs just do a quick search :)
-
Excellent.. I will get that when my HUGE bag od WBCL is finished - Thanks xx
-
http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?topic=7315.0
how dumb am I ? I started the thread which clearly states chick crumb is the same as what i was after !!!
My memory is trashed !
-
I was going to say I thought we had converted you already Lisa! lol, look into my eyes! Gillian has a lot to answer for, world chick feed shortage! Seriously is it fantastic, just the same as worlds best but a bit less pretty and obviously the packaging isn't as nice but its so cheap who cares!
-
well im not too annoyed that my memory failed ! I got the WBCL from a pet shop.. it was damaged as some had got out of the bag.. i got the huge bag for £6.16 (half price) & there was way more left in it than in the smaller bags which were £9.99 so i got a bargain.. chick crumb next then !
-
I liked it, but didn't think it worth the money.
I still can't find chick crumbs over here. Anywhere online I've seen selling it doesn't ship over here >:(
-
Any one use yesterdays news litter or know a similar substitute ?
-
Well, having been using the stuff for a week now, I am really impressed ;D There is no smell whatsoever from the tray, it clumps fantastically well so all poos and wees go down the toilet twice a day, and I've only had to top it up twice, without the need to change the whole lot yet ;D Max was a bit suspicous at first, he was more interested in eating it than peeing in it lol, but I mixed a bit of his usual litter in there as they suggested, and bingo ;)
As its fine as well, he's not doing his usual trick of chucking it all over the floor :evillaugh:
It will be interesting to see how long the bag lasts, and how much more expensive it works out than the old stuff. Hopefully not much dearer, as I'm definitely a convert now ;D
-
Excellent, ive got a massive bag to get through. I love the fact I can flush it.. so handy being in a top floor flat !
-
Never tried it but if its that good I might grab myself a bag if its ever on offer, its pretty expensive stuff isn't it?
I have recently changed to sophisticat and I am pretty happy with that at the mo :)
-
If I was friends with Gillian at this stage I would be advocating the joys of chick crumb and how is does the same as wbcl for a quarter of the price but I'm not so I won't!!!! (see Gillian I told you I would renounce the chick crumb in protest!)
-
I used to use Sophisticat, then changed to a similar Morrisons own brand.
WB is expensive, I think I paid about £18 for this bag, but its huge, and time will tell how long it lasts.
With the old stuff, I was getting through at least one bag a week, if not more, and at £3-£3.50 a time, plus a new liner bag every time. I also used to find that wee did smell after a few days, even if you do try and scoop as much as you can. As this stuff clumps completely, there is no ammonia smell whatsoever after 1 week, wheras with the old stuff, I would be having problems by now.
I'll keep you posted as to how long the bag lasts ;D
-
I don't think anyone will ever use chick crumb again unless Gillian comes out of hiding and TELLS US WHAT'S GOING ON
-
  - all the more chick crumbs for me then :evillaugh:
-
TELLS US WHAT'S GOING ON
What is going on with this? :)
-
Gillian is witholding information on a cute persian kitten that may or may not be in her care!
-
Then it is :) because if it wasn't she would have just come out and said so :)
-
Can I just ask...am I right in assuming that 'chick crumb' is a cat litter you can flush? Where can I purchase this wonderful stuff?
I have been buying Bob Martin recycled paper litter which is cheap and very lightweight and my lot like it - but now they've changed its composition and I don't think it's as good...it's actually quite hard to tell which bits have been peed on.
-
we've had loads of conversations about this, if you do a search Helen posted a list of stockists, its actually food for baby chicks so you don't pay vat! it clumps like worlds best and is flushable I get mine from and equestrian type pet place but lots of people go to Jolleys (sp?) anyway if you do a search you will definately find loads about it
-
Guys how deep does this need to be ? Didnt realise it was so fine..
its been years since I had a kitten !
-
about 2 inches at least
hth
-
I MANAGED TO GET SOME CHICK CRUMB :cheer:
I've been having a bit of a mare trying to find somewhere who stock it locally, but I've found a pet shop franchise in a garden centre who can get me a 20kg bag for £9.60.
Not sure how cheap that is in the big scheme of things, but its certainly better than £18.99 for a 7.5kg bag of Worlds Best lol!
I'll be picking it up later in the week, so will be interested to see how Max gets on with it. Much as I love WB, its is veeeeeery expensive, so if this is as good as Gillian & Co say it is, I'll be one happy lil' Clarey :evillaugh:
-
But can you actually lift the bag to fill the tray?
I'm scared to try WBCL or chick crumbs in case it's not as good as what I'm using.
-
I pay about £7.50 for mine but like you say £9.60 is still better than wbcl - I was buying from ebay before, something described as clumping cat litter and paying £15 a bag I think plus delivery but when I got my first bag of chick crumb it turned out that it was the same stuff!! i've tried every litter under the sun and this it great honest
-
Susanne can you fit an extra tray in? Then you can test it without the boys going oh my god i have to pee on edible stuff  Lola refuses to use it as litter, she has a regular munch :innocent: and then goes to the clay tray
-

Gonna buy me a scoop, then I won't need to lift it lol :evillaugh:
Before I tried WB I thought it was probably vastly overrated, but it really is great, every little bit of wee and poo clumps so there's nothing left behind when you clean the tray, so no smells whatsoever ;D Now I've used it, I don't think I'll ever go back to the old litter I used ;D
-

The only placed I'd seen it before was on ebay, the crumb itself was quite cheap, but about £10 to post it  Defo got to be a collect job methings, although might send o/h to do it as its gonna be heavy
-
I pay £6.20 for my 20kg sack - just gone up, how dare they! >:( LOL! - but as you say Clare, your bag is still way cheaper than WB.
-
I've been thinking of adding an extra tray in the bathroom, but there's not a lot of room in there! I buy golden grey from zooplus at £8.99 for 14kg which isn't bad price wise. I'm happy with the performance but am becoming increasingly unhappy about using a clay litter for a variety of reasons. I can just about lift those bags and empty them into sophisticat 5kg plastic tubs. The litter tray is in the living room so I have to carry the litter to the tray (or the tray to the litter!) when I want to refill.
-
I like this litter but find that Leo kicks it everywhere !! I suppose it will be the same whichever I used !
Is the chick crumb the same consistancy ?
-

I think all cats kick their litter everywhere, I've found with Max it doesn't go any where near as far around the room as its very light, when he had Sophisticat which had much larger pieces, I'd find it everywhere. I'm sure he used to do it as a game
The crumb looks very similar, I'm supposed to be picking it up today/tomorrow so I'll report in when I've got it ;D
-
If he's kicking it everywhere you could try adding a hood to the tray as this is what stops mine :)
hth
-
Can you flush this chick crumb ?
-
Lisa chick crumb is not so fine as wbcl and yes you can flush it
-
wicked ! Thanks
-
Would this be OK ?? Has it got to be a particular type ? Im sure someone mentioned it had to be non medicated but I may be wrong ?

I got chick crumb too, from the countrywide farmers link that Helen posted. They're the only ones I could find to deliver over here. I bought two 25KG bags and it cost me £25, still works out a lot cheaper than what I had been buying, and cos I don't drive it's so handy to have it delivered to the door. I'm very impressed with it so far ;D
-
sorry i just started a new thread.. trying to find links
-
I picked it up today ;D Its made by Farmgate, Chick Crumbs ACS ..... the lady in the shop didnt think it was medicted, and the website doesn't indicate either way.
Anyone know? If not I'll phone their helpline in the morning just to make sure.
-
Thats what I'm using the farmgate and its ok :)
-
Fantastic, thankeeeeeee, I'll top up the current WB with it so he doesnt' notice any difference :evillaugh:
-
Right just found a supplier in my area...
20kg bag for £9.15.. Cant remember how much the WBCL was & size so cant compare ! Is that good ?
-
Yup, that's good ;D I paid £9.60 for mine, so fairly similar.
WB is £18-19 for a 7.5kg bag, so muuuuuuccch cheaper.
I can report that it is just as good as WB as well, not such a pretty colour, but the job just as well ;D
-
cool ! I love bargains !!!!! :)
What colour is it then ?
-
Its quite a bit darker browny/grey colour, and a tiny bith courser in texture than WB, but other than that, no difference as far as I can see. It clumps in exactly the same way, and there's no odour whatsoever. I'm due to change the tray completely tonight, its been in for a fortnight (but topped up obviously), but as all wees clump together, there's nothing left to make any odours.
Pretty fab really :)
-
ooo im all excited now (how sad !!!)
What a fab find ! Im going to spread the word.. the courser the better as Leo has a habbit of getting it EVERYWHERE !
see ya later WBCL !
-
Max still manages to get it everywhere :tired: He was quite good at first, but now I find it flung all around his tray again most evenings when I get in :innocent:
-
This is why I have hooded trays as my boys think they can dig to China :)
-
WELL I WOULD GET A HOODED ONE BUT WHEN HE IS OLDER HE WONT FIT !!!
-
how big will me get Lisa, not weight but size??
-
Max wouldn't like a hooded tray, he's ever so delicate when he has a poo, balances all his paws on the edge of the tray (its got a flat plastic lid which goes around the edges to keep the liner in place) and dangles his bum over the litter :evillaugh: If there was a lid he'd have to be conventional again :-:
-
zooplus do some really big one plenty of people have maine coons using them
hth
-
Purrsonal touch have some really big trays too. I saw one at a cat show earlier in the year that was bigger than anything I'd seen previously. Jaffa needs a big tray - he's not Leo size but he is long so when he does a poo that makes him tall!
-
My two have steadfastly refused to use the World's Best Litter I bought and will only use the upstairs tray that has the bog standard Thomas litter in despite the fact there are two trays downstairs with WB in. I daren't put WB in all the trays in case they then decide to go somewhere else  Awkward :censored:
-
Did you try and mix some WB in with the existing litter or do a load of new in one tray?
I think they recommend that if your cat won't use it straight away, try to mix it up so they get used to it gradually (obviously just don't flush it down the loo if you have normal litter in there as well) :)
-
Just cathing up with this, thanks for the tip Clare I will try mixing it up with some of the other stuff and see if they will start to use it that way. :thanks:
