Title: Please help pooing outside the litter box
Post by: Littlebobo on September 12, 2007, 18:30:36 PM
 :(

Mister seems to have lately taken to occasionally pooing outside his litter box..

I have tried several things..changing litter, changing box, moving box, adding more, using foil near the tray ..I have also tried moving the poo into the litter box ..

Can anyone suggest anything else my OH is really angry with him and now he keeps hiding from him ..he hasn't done anything horrible just told him that he can't have any tea ..which he will get so dont worry just really want to know what to do  :(

My kitten took to weeing outside the litter box, sometimes on my bedroom carpet and sometimes in the bath :) I just started to watch for him scratching around and then placed him in the litter box (I have 3 so took to different one each time) and he seems to have got the messege :) Thankgod :)

Problem is that my boy is 6kg ( not fat just a big cat before anyone comments) ...so lifting him in midflow can be a difficult thing to do ...Perhaps i need to get a bigger box ???

Are your boxes covered? it maybe that he can't turn round inside and it's putting him off.

I have no idea why marco suddenly decided that he no longer what to pee in his but it seems to have stopped

Problem is that my boy is 6kg
Treat it as a daily workout :)

Have you tried removing the lid?
Is it a case of him overshooting at the door or going next to it?

Also if somebody shouts at him it will not help...............I dont know if they did shout!

has anything changed recently at home, been moved, cat probs etc could be an accident or he may be worried about something.

He goes next to it ..sometimes he will go in it ..I change the litter EVERY day so it can't be that !!..

Also he is very dominating in that area and the others wont go near it ..?

Try having 2 trays next to each other and see what happens

I've done that and still messes by his tray  :(...

I am worried that he might be stressed ...I have just noticed that he is biting his nails and i heard that is signs of stress although i do need to clip his claws but dont want to put him under anymore stress ..?

Do you think i should take him to the vets ?

Do you change the whole lot of litter every day? of do you mean just the soiled? you know how they can object if its TOO clean, like there is no odour (to them) left, for him to know that he SHOULD go there? - just a thought.

Also, how many trays have you got for how many cats? I know you've said you tried 2 trays, but if you've got other cats too, maybe you need even more than that?

Oh, and don't worry about the biting claws thing, I don't think thats stress, couple of mine do it, and they're pretty laid back.

I currently have 5 trays ..which is probably not enough i suppose but is as many as my tiny house can take ..I have also taken to try and move his poop back into the tray so he can see that is where it is supposed to be ..not sure if that helps though ?

I take out the soiled stuff daily well as soon as they do anything i try to get it !

Thanks for the info on the nail biting as i do worry !
