5pm yesterday began a trapping (injured mum and 2 kittens).
They were living in a disused garage in a really rough area opposite a pub. We trapped mum outside the garage within minutes and Grumpy rushed her to the vet; I was accosted by a couple as I climbed out of the window, fortunately they were very nice but were Polish and didnt speak English, I only know one Polish word Kotz (cat) and somehow made myself understood that I was helping cats rather than being a cat burglar
The kittens just reaching 6weeks were inside the garage and only way in to ensure their safety was through a tiny window; the garage was full of building materials and junk with not an inch of floor to be seen,so my first task after climbing in through the window was to clear a space to fit the trap, not so easy when you need to lift scaffolding frames , window frames and huge slabs of glass, slate and rotten clothes but somehow after much huffing and puffing and using muscles I didnt know I had the trap was passed through the window and set. It was a long night as we realised kittens didnt have enough bodyweight to spring the trap and this morning realised the only hope of getting these kittens was by the scruff of the neck.
That was like looking for 2 very angry needles in a haystack; I prayed hard as I searched and after a couple of hours scruffed the little girl; I kept having to move rotten clothes in my search and at one stage got covered in maggots; Grumpy had by this time squeezed himself in through the window to help and eventually we had little boy cornered and as I took his scruff he bit and scratched for all he was worth.I cried so much Rob thought I was seriously injured, the tears were those of joy because our 3 lives were saved.
Major pen re organisation yet again and picked up mum cat (Sherbet ) from vets, she has had her eye removed and I have had her spayed and microchipped too,she is back with her kittens and when I looked in a short time ago one happy family. Incidentally mum is not feral after all, just a domestic who has lived out quite some time.
Sorry for long post, I am just overjoyed for these little ones.

So very glad you got them out of the garage they were in and now will all go off to loving homes.

Yet again, a whole cat family saved from who knows what. As sore as mum's eye looks, I bet she is a lot more comfortable than before and will be over it in no time with your TLC (Teresa's Loving Care :) )
Bet you are  now.
-

Just finished the rounds of giving afternoon tea; Sherbet is lovely headbutting and paddy pawing just so grateful for food and a nice bed, kittens giving wonderful hissy spits. When Grumpy and I saw them suckling on mum we both had tears of joy in our eyes I just cant explain what a truly wonderful sight it was. :Luv:
I had intended Saxon names (the name of the pub opposite) but vets decided she looked like a Sherbet so now I need a wonderful girls and boys name. The little girl is quite fluffy.
-
Aw great news :wow:
Now for the girls name :sneaky: ......How about "Bliss" its Anglo-Saxon meaning "joy" ;)
-
Ruth I like that Bliss she is :)
-
:blow kiss:
-
How about Offa for the boy - he was a Saxon king. :)
-
Corey = Chosen
-
What gorgeous babies and lovely mum.
I hope that your hand is ok T as I know how deadly scratches can be.
Take Care,
Claire xx
-
How about Skye T for the boy... bet he's in Heaven.. xxxx
-
Wonderful job Teresa and Sherbet is gorgeous and sounds like she has settled in already ;D
Name to go with Bliss, ummmmmmmmmm how about Blithe
-
Aw Teresa am very pleased this little family is safe. Well done to you, and hope the scratches are mending.
-
Poor little Sherbet: it looks as if she had a nasty injury to that eye. But, of course, she will be OK now.
Make sure you keep those scratches and gashes clean, Teresa.
How about Beowulf for the little lad?
-
well done T
Did the vet have any clue as to what was wrong/injured sherbets eye ?
-
Sherbert is gorgeous. what a lovely sweet face she has. And the kittens are pretty cute too. Fraid my Saxon is a bit rusty so no suggestions here. But could go down the Sherbet path and consider sorbet and fizz
-
Lynn vet just said something had pierced it and to be honest he phoned when I was rushing trying to sort out kittens so I didnt ask questions just told him to do whatever was needed for her will ask next time.
She is currently lay down with her 2 kittens suckling and paddy pawing; I said to her Miracles do happen and in her own way she said "I know" :Luv:
-
well she will be in less pain now with it out i should think , thank goodness this has had a happy ending :)
-
Sherbet and kittens have had a good night and I even found a kitten poop in the litter tray. This little cat is an absolute delight though her kittens now named Bliss and Bear are real little hiss spits yet they will feed off and lick my fingers, they are just about 6 weeks so should be round in no time..
-
That's fantastic. Poor little Sherbert. What a brave little Mum she is.
-
Aw, they look adorable, and I'm sure Sherbert will be fit and well in no time at all in your care. I'm sure the kittens will come round quickly as well ....... what an adorable little family :Luv:
-
She is a brave little mum indeed :Luv: She must be so relieved to have food and a clean shelter.
PS Bear is a lovely name for the kitten!
-
I decided on bear very early this morning while I was trying to pronounce Beowulf

Hello
I thought that it would be nice to give people an update on this family as I am pleased to say that Sherbet went to her new home on Sunday and Bear and Bliss her kittens were rehomed 2 weeks ago. HOORAY!!!! It is great to see the progress cats can make with lots of help and patience. I personally love to see updates of the cats in care that are posted here and as I know many of them also touch the hearts of other Purrs members, I thought you might like to see them too!!
You may remember this story of Teresa having to climb through a window of a lock up garage and rummage through lots of nasty maggot infested boxes and clothes to catch Bear and Bliss and then also struggle to catch Sherbet who was very frightened, had a poorly eye and was fighting to trying to protect her babies. The story is at the start of this thread for those that might like a read. They were rescued on Sept 10th 2007.
Since then Teresa has worked hard to turn them all into healthy, loving and gentle babies. Sherbet had to have her eye removed, but has recovered so well and has turned into one of the most loveable cats that I have met. Bear and Bliss took some work to bring them around as they had had no human contact before they were rescued. They left for their new home as confident, playful young cats.
I have attached below the photo of Sherbet just after she had arrived - she was rushed straight to the vets as Teresa caught her as her eye was critical and so this was the first photo we took of her. The other photos were taken on Sunday morning just before this beautiful girl went to her new home.
I hope you like them.
Claire xx
