Hi...
I got a 2 year old neutered tom called Preet... he has recently started to show behaviour of a cat wih sexual instincts he cannot reconcile, needs he cannot meet...
recently, I got him a soft woolen knitted long waist tie for a gown to play with and chase. For a while he loved it and played massively chasing it. As time went on, his behaviour regarding it has changed a little and then more...
At first, we would bite and play and then grab it in his teeth and drag it away as a trophy to the same places
Then, he would start to try to settle on it in a very specific way, very carefully positioning himself on top of it.
Finally, we noticed that he had become erect and started to make soft mewling meow noises and seemed to be becoming frustrated, being unable to settle, and when I tried to be soft with him, he became agitated and ended up hissing at me and then being very out of sorts for a while...
Is this usual? Is there anything I can do to support him...?

have your vet check if he has a retained testicle. Sometimes if one or other testicle is undescended it can be missed at neutering, a retained testicle can cause sexual behaviour in a cat that has been neutered and can also lead to agression. More importantly it can also lead to all sorts of medical complications that are lifethreatening. Lynn can tell you more as she is a trained vet nurse. But I would have him off to the vet quick smart if it were me.

I second BC, a vets opinion is needed I think.
-
I too agree that a vet check is essential, it could be something as simple as a slight hormone problem that can usually be solved or worse case senaria a retained testical and if not removed will most probably turn cancerous.
-
Poor Preet must be getting pretty stressed about it as well. Hope it gets sorted out.
-
That's sound advice and I had not heard of a remained testicle before...
but whether it be that or a hormone imbalance, I shall find out...
Thank you
-
remained testicle before
Retained ;D Still I suppose you could say remained as it would have remained in the body and not dropped.

well spotted... I promise, next time, I shall actually read the posts rather than just glance at the first and last letter of a word and make up my own middle

Don't worry about it I do that all the time, either read the first bit and make the rest up or read what I want it to say. ;D

Thank you... it is pleasing to know that being a dope is quite the british epidemic

I had a cat a few years ago that had a big thing about teddies, he was neutered but spent most of his day bonking. With him though, they think it was a hormone problem, the vet put him on Ovarid for a short while but it didn't really seem to sort the problem out. I agree with the others in that he should be checked for a retained testicle, just in case there is a problem.
-
I must be naughty Meowmy cos i would of known if mine had retained any of theirs as i always checked :shy: Iv seen it on a dog before and told his owner's would be better to have his castrated as if not there would be a good chance of it turning cancerous ;)
Mine defo must have hormone problems then as 2 of my cats are like this :tired:
-
Well I better sort this quick cos the options of cancer or lifelong hormone issues will turn him into a husk, a shadow of his former self... that, or I shall have to be accomodating about his... err... affections

Think yourself lucky! :shy:
From the time Jumpy was 6 months, until he was about 4 years, he humped my leg senseless every time I stood still enough to let him get a decent grip. Sometimes I would be half asleep in bed and I'd feel he's little moist 'thing' rubbing against my calf!   And no, he didn't have a retained testicle and the vet was as puzzled as me. :scared:
I was so grateful when he grew out of it...

What an amazingly vivid picture you painted there of cat intimacy...
...oh, I really hope my cat has a spare bollock
-
my beautiful Gizmo (RIP) :( went through the same thing his turned out to be struvite crystals with a course of treatment he stopped. A trip to the vet I would say or at least get a urine sample tested
good luck
xx

a urine sample?
How do I do that! Chase him around with cat sized test tube?

get some special cat litter from the vet that does not absorb the urine, included in the pack is a syringe and a pot to put the urine in

thanks... that I can do...

bollock
Did you not know we are refined on here?

Indeed I do... sorry that it was misunderstood... a colloquialism about my man's anatomy rather than an expression of frustration

Not misunderstood I assure you, I know perfectly well what you were talking about, as I say we are refined on here ;D
