I received a phone call a few days ago from a sponsor who sponsors Hope (details on our sponsor page), after an appeal in our Newsletter for goods to sell in our shop. The sponsor asked me if she would like me to send a few bits, I said yes please and she said she would arrange for a parcel to be sent. Yesterday a knock came on the door and I was told I have 5 boxes for you. Well I have never seen anything like it in my life, Our hall was almost full. I could not even get my arms round any of the boxes and one was tea chest size. The smell on opening some of the boxes was a delight. talk about luxury goods, 8 jars of rose soap leaves that sell for over £20 each, candles that retail at £16, loads of bottles of perfume & smellies, a luxury quilted silk duvet will retails at over £100, a mobile phone which retails for almost £400, I could go on for ever. How kind of someone to think of us in this way. I am overwhelmed.

Wow thats amazing - what an amazingly gereous person - if only there were more around in the world!!
I bet you were so stunned and moved. Do you have the womans number/address to thank her?

Yes she is one of our sponsors and along with the gifts came a letter and now I realize she owns a huge empire.

Great news Ela, nice to know there are some generous people out there.
btw - are the candles "yankee candles"? - my favourite ;D
-
I love the cotton yankee candles but I am a sad QVC head!!

That name does not ring a bell and I can't be bothered to look in all the boxes again to see what they are. All I know is they smell good enough to eat.

yankee candles
I have just looked at the site and now realize I have some of those that I purchased in the Black Forest last year.

I took a load of really dull military books that oh had finished with to our shop yesterday
Military books usually sell very well.
-
that's interesting, in the Ealing cp shop where we used to live they turned him away with them saying they wouldn't sell them, he was most hurt!

Perhaps they were thinking more on what the content of the books was.

I have tried loads of them - they are all lovely but expensive. I get mine from Ebay, C&H Fabrics or Wyevale garden centres. They also do car fresheners which are lovely - sage & citrus is my favourite ;D
The only ones I don't like are "sickly" smells like chocolate, vanilla etc
If anyone hasn't tried it, look for the yankee candle car jar on ebay - they are lovely and last ages. They also do one that plugs into the lighter socket but I haven't tied them.

I got rid of a guest bed 2 weeks ago. I bought it when I opened the B&B in case 3 people wanted to share a room or had a child. As I don't allow either now ( :evillaugh: ) I was under a bed and a wste of space. I struggled to the red cross shop with it and she said "Sorry we can't take that" - was really annoyed and told her I will take all my stuff to Sense in future :evillaugh: - As I know her, I said be honest, Is it in case there are wee stains on it? - she looked really embarrased and said yes. I told her it had been used twice and both times witha mattress protector. She said OK then, I can probably get a fiver for it. I told her to ask £10 as it cost £80
I went it last week and she said it sold the same day for £10.00!! :wow:

they had six of the jars on qvc for £34 the other day which I thought was really good
What size - there are tiny 3 oz jars, up to 22oz ones. The big ones are usually about £22

They are lovely aren't they? - a lot of scented candles are really vile
The history was interesting. As a kid, he was stuck for an xmas gift for his mum so melted down old candles to make a new one. Then neighbours started asking for them. Now it is a multi-million $ company ;D
-
Thanks
I just had a look on there. I see they are selling 2 x 22oz ones for £27 + £5.45 P&P which is better value. Not sure if I will like the smell theycalled it the "spring meadow" set - 1 x freesia & 1 x Jasmine.
Shame you can't choose the smells.

If the stuff she donated is 'expensive' stuff do you normally get it's true worth by selling it in the shop? If not had you considered Ebay? I'd be happy to help if you have nobody local that Ebay literate. I know it's extra time packaging the stuff up and posting it but could be worth it if it won't fetch it's true worth in the shop.
-
Maybe if they are the Yankee Candles, Ela could sell them on here and possibly make some more money than if she sold them in the shop? :donate:
Or would mailing them out be too much hassle?
edited: Helen is too quick for me :evillaugh:

Unfortunately I don't think I can give it to you as the site is her personal site it would be like giving info which I am not allowed to give. Actually it is a funny site, although it says the makes she deals with there are not many pics and no prices, I had to dig deeper for those. It is a site where retailers have to join for information.
She supplies things like www.thewhitecompany.com

We have an auction in November

We have an auction in November
I know I thought about that, in fact I took a couple of things out, then felt guilty and put them back knowing that if something is given for a specific purpose then it has to be used for that purpose, and in the letter with the goods it said they were for our shop. Oh I am so honest. ;D
I have 3 of those knitted blankets though.

Oh thats good ;D
