There's quite a few of us on here that use 'chick crumbs' - the craze was started by Gillian! I've used it since I got the boys as kittens and would never go back to 'normal' cat litter now. For me the main advantage is that it's flushable, I still bag the wees but flush the poos so no more smelly bins :sick: I get mine from Jollyes at £7.50 for a 20kg sack, others have found it cheaper from horsey/bird feed type places but don't really have any of those near me.

Brilliant ! so is it cheaper than cat litter ? I was after something to flush too. Thanks hon. (whats it like for odour ?) do the deodoriser pellets work ?

Yep I'm using chick crumbs too, there great no smell, other than the smell of cereal from the crumbs, but its very clumpy and I'm only paying 5.50 for a 20kg sack from a pet food wholesalers,
make sure you put a good thick layer down as well

mines branded Farmgate Chick crumbs and they are made by BOCM Pauls Ltd Valley Lane Wherstead but I buy them at Delves Lane Pet supllies

It's about the same price as 'normal' cat litter but it does the same job as Worlds Best Cat Litter which is £36 for 15kg whereas Chick crumbs are £7.50 for 20kg or even cheaper! I use hooded trays which keep any smells in (have got my smell back now after a course of steroids!). As hOrZa says the only real smell is sort of a wheaty smell, the brand I use is 'Dodson & Horrell' - Chick start crumbs from Jollyes.

I used to buy Dodson and Horrell at £7.80 odd at Jollyes, but I can get a different make at my local petshop for £5.89 by CC Moore, called Double C. You want to make sure that the brand you get is unmedicated, most are these days, but some are medicated.

I've just tried these for the first time. Filled just one litter tray with a sample bag of chick crumbs and the rest with my normal Worlds Best. Cats seem to like the chick crumbs and I think they are great. They don't go powdery after a while like the Worlds Best can. The smell is just a wheaty type and they clump really solidly so easy to remove. I will defo be changing to Chick crumbs from now on. Just need to find a good supplier, mine are a bit expensive still down here it seems, £13 for 25kgs, am looking for a site online that will deliver that is cheaper. If anyone knows of anywhere, please let me into your secret.
Still better than £36.00 for 15kg of Worlds Best though.
Also, kittens seem to get on with them and no one has tried eating it or anything.

Here's alist of suppliers in Bucks... Must be one fairly close - I'd rather pay £7.50 for 20kg than £17 for 15kg!

Helen that is brilliant, I go to widmer feeds but there are so many others I'm paying 7.90 but might be able to get it a bit cheaper, I'm a couple of miles from Penn so I'll try them - thanks!

Thanks Helen, the Countrywidefarmers one was good for me, £6.49 for 25kg and the postage was only £4.95 and that was for two bags so £17.93 for 50kg, brill. ;D ;D

Isn't it a bit wasteful to give our cats umm food, to wee on? I mean, is the stuff already a waste product or is it produced specially as food? Cos I really don't like the idea if it's specially produced, there's so much overfarmed land out there...

Yes Its food but it can't be any more harmful to the environment than a chemical factory, and you could see it as environmentally friendly if you flush rather than bin for landfill

Its specially produced for chickens yes, but I should think peeps using it as cat litter is a mere drop in the ocean of farm land! I'm sure they're not gonna have to go into production overdrive just to keep up with usage! Although with the number of converts on here hmmmm..........! ;D
