Got a call on Friday asking me to take a mum and her seven kittens; the man said they belonged to his daughter who he described as thick and told me they were being treated as toys by the very young children both under 3years. I had nowhere to squeeze them in and offered to take them the next day;the caller could not manage Saturday and so we arranged this morning.
When I saw the poor babies I felt so bad for leaving them those extra days ; its taken an hour and a half to deflea and worm them and size wise they are tiny,3 of them are the size of 4week old kittens and yet they are 8 weeks today. In the picture mum looks a good weight because she is huddled in the corner but in reality she is very scrawny. Think it is 5girls and 2 boys.
The Paws Inn is fit to burst
-
Aww they are adoreable I am so gald they are with you now. My offer to help is still there just pm. you take care hugs kelly-joy
-
So glad these little ones are with you now T.
I'm sure they'll be eating you out of house and home soon enough and growing like weeds ;)
-
Aww
-
Ag my heart... T I wish I was closer, would love to foster these for you.. :Luv:
-
Poor things, so glad they are safe with you know. Do you think they might have lied about the kittens ages? They do look tiny :(
-
The ages are spot on by eyes teeth and actions, will weigh them a bit later on when mum has had time to calm a little. They demolished 4 satchets in less than 30 seconds before attacking the Royal Canin dish.
The man that brought them was caring, he told me they had been born on 9th July(his own Birthday) and he was ashamed of the way his daughter had treated them,he even apologised in advance that they were not toilet trained. I pity the toddlers she has.
-
>:( Lets hope she doesn't get her hands on another poor cat :(
-
Oh my you can see they arent in good condition and they do look emaciated..tiny bodies but bigger heads :(
well atleast they are good hands now and thank god for the womans father really, imagine a mother of 2 young children let any type of babies get like that >:(
-
Poor little mites >:(
Thank goodness they are at Paws Inn now.
-
Poor man, having to explain his daughters blatant disregard for an animals wellbeing.
They're gorgeous Teresa. I hope the amount of cats you get coming in slows down soon, so you can get things under control again!
-
Have just weighed the 3 smallest kittens and am in disbelief, they have all eaten so had full tummies when I weighed
430grams
440grams
451gram
Pushkin and Eugenie are 3 weeks younger to the day and at last weigh in were
511grams and 610grams on empty tummies.
I think I have the 7 dwarfs of the cat world.
-
It will be easy to name them then!
That is disgustingly light for their age, what does mum weigh?
-
Mum is a little too grumpy for weighing at present though she appears to be a normal sized cat just a slim one; the kittens are small through lack of food rather than genetics.
When you look around their eyes you can see little bald bits which indicate a vitamin deficiency so will buy some Abidec tomorrow and we will soon fatten them up,hopefully they should have shed their wormy bellies by then.
-
Petunia has a bald bit above each eye, where her eyebrows would come from. What casues it?
-
Aww, fingers crossed for them, at least they are in a good place now.
-
M.M. not a good pic but you can just see what I mean re baldness all around eye, this is a vitamin deficiency.
The baldness you are speaking of is normal and as you say where the eyebrow comes from. I guess I`ve never thought why till now :)
Mum plus tweenies have all eaten hearty breakfast and some are using litter tray already, I think with good diet they will come on in leaps and bounds. Poor mum was very growly with me first thing but once I managed to stroke her she was calm and affectionate, guess she is another one used to manhandling.Kittens are timid but will soon snap out of it. They are certainly having great fun in the outdoor run climbing the scratching post.
-
Aww what a cutie.
-
I see the difference ;D
-
Heres two of the tweenies sunbathing yesterday, they may be tiny but they can climb.
-
Tiny tweenie is up to 463 grams now,not sure whether she is Thumbelina or Lilliput yet, she is just so tiny I keep staring at her in disbelief funnily enough she is the most confident. Having an awful time with piddle and poop at least 3 are still not using the trays and washing machine broke down twice today under the strain;seem to remember saying to smile about it, we`ll get there eventually.
-
They are so sweet ;D
I dont remember a year for kittens like this one, everywhere seems to be full and the kittens are still coming out of the woodwork.
Poor rescues and poor kittens.
-
Fingers crossed they grasp litter training soon T.
-
This lot are so like the cupboard cats, piddle, poop, piddle poop but I keep smiling about it because stress only worsens the problem.
The little tweenie one has been named by me this morning as she is going to vets tomorrow, I have called her
Thumbellina
bet the naming committee are disgusted.
-
Naming committee think the name and the little tweenie is wonderful and breathe a sigh of relief as it could have been a lot worse................got some good ideas for the others, but need to see them to be sure!! roll on saturday!!
Claire xx

How did it go at the vets?

Thats tomorrow Christine, todays appointment was for Isabella and her kittens.
-
I am just about managing to keep track of the current residents of Paws Inn (I think ) but getting the vet appointments right from this distance is beyond me! Sorry, Isabella and brood :-[
-
I want Tonka!! Its a name, I swear it is! :evillaugh:
-
I like Tonka but dont think it right for the tweenies ;D
Maybe an older pair could be called Tonka and Skuba ;) ;) thinks I like that but nooooooooo 4 is enough
-
Vet is thrilled with Thumbellina`s progress and says if she continue to do so well she will vaccinate all of them towards end of next week.
Weight today 511kg :cheer:
-
Awwwww I want them all :Luv: :Luv: :Luv: :evillaugh:
Can't wait to hear the names that Claire is thinking of :sneaky:
Glad that all went well at the vets ;D xxxxxx
-
Weight today 511kg :cheer:
:omg: :o :omg: Is it a lion cub?!!
-
The boys have been Christened Gulliver and Tom Thumb.
So far 3 girls have been named, Thumbellina, Thomasina and Lilliiput; just 2 more to think of.
They are all eating well and keeping the washine machine in overtime with the piddle poop, yesterday I thought things were a little better, this morning o dearie me I felt like crying but smiled instead.
They will be 9 weeks old tomorrow.
-
You are testing me now, Teresa, but as it is the Bishop of Boyne you are going with, and we need two girls names, how about Tara (for Eire and his tarwater) and Roisin (because that is a beautiful name)?
-
Just done search on Bishop of Boyne and cant see connection, o dear I am becoming senile
I already have a Tara she is a cupboard kitten.
-
Just done search on Bishop of Boyne and cant see connection, o dear I am becoming senile
No, I have some quirky mental connections sometimes
Jonathan Swift was the author of Gullivers Travels and he (in the words of W B Yeats) "drank tarwater with the Bishop of Boyne", i.e. Bishop Berkeley. I just liked Tara to go with Tar, but how about Sinead and Roisin, then? To keep us with the Irish genius?
-
made sense to me, Bishop of Boyne, battle of boyne, tara hall of kings, works for me ... ;D
-
Totally lost
-
as it is the Bishop of Boyne you are going with
Oh dear, I'm not in the least surprised that I have spread confusion, as I missed out the Jonathan Swift stage of my chain of thought (Gulliver, Lilliput)!
:-[
-
Christine
its me with my thick head on, I did know the author :Luv:
-
I split this family up yesterday as mum was beating her kittens up, despite being wormed there are major food problems going on and the poop everywhere was getting me down. Mum is now in a pen on her own and this morning I carried in my large tray of food and dishes left to get the water jug and mum(Jess) has put her paw through the mesh door stolen a satchet bit a hole in it and eaten half in less than a minute, when I snatched it away she showed her disapproval. The four bigger kittens are in another pen and almost took my hands off when I put food in and attacked each other so ended up with 4 separate food bowls, they have been clean. The 3 tinies Thumbellina, Thomasina and Lilliput are in a collapsible in my kitchen yet another 3 seperate food bowls to stop the fighting and one poop in the bed;they have all had Milbemax a week ago,mum has had a second milbemax and this morning each kitten has had stronghold, they must have horrendous worms.
I will keep smiling no matter what
-
Fingers crossed for them all.
-
Just off to vets with 3 of these lucky ones I am smiling still just- poop poop poop and more poop, am hoping he will give them all a steroid jab as I have tried everything and failed thus far.
-
Well the poor little loves, they had Milbemax wormer last week, stronghold yesterday and now they have to have a 5 day course of Panacur liquid,I`m sure they and their mother will be very co operative while I syringe it into them; somehow I think the poop problem is going to get worse before it gets better.
-
Well the poop problem became a nightmare, the washing machine almost died of overwork and 3 days of panacur and still the kittens are fighting each other for food,I think maybe they are Piranhas disguised as kittens.
In 13 days they have had Milbemax, Stronghold and 3 days of Panacur and still the problem is not resolved though I must admit I am beginning to see a light at the end of a very long tunnel.
I will be reviewing the wormers very carefully now as I am not so sure Milbemax is as effective as its made out to be.
-
My goodness, please dont OD them :shify:
-
Gill I am following vets advice :)
-
Oh yes I am sure you are ;D
From a none expert it just sounds a lot of meds for kittens and wondered if the combination may be prolonging the problem? I am sure the vets know best though ;D
-
Awww bless their wee paws :Luv:
I hope their wee tummies settle soon xx
-
Aww, fingers crossed for them. The locum vet who saw my kittens said that she has heard that Stronghold might not be as effective at the moment, but nothing about Milbemax (although she suggested Drontal rather than that).
-
Its more a case of which particular type of parasite that is causing the problem Des, each preparation covers some but not all. I have had some really bad cases this year and Milbemax has just not been up to the job.
After 2 long weeks I have just had a firm poo in the tray it seems the panacur is the most effective in this case; just for good measure I have given all my young kittens panacur this morning and think I will be sticking with it for now.
-
Yipee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
Claire make that a triple Yippeee :)
-
Claire make that a triple Yippeee :)
Double that
-
Also add a WOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOO :yesss:
-
Wonderful ;D ;D ;D
-
Brilliant! I assume the triple yippee is because the three in the kitchen are now solid!!! Great news.
-
Lilliput is splodgy, Thumbellina must have done 2 lumps never mind we are getting better
-
excellent news!! I remember when Tilly did her first solid poo, we were SO happy! I can't imagine what it must be like times 7!!
-

It was Mum plus 7 and none were litter trained, only hell if you cry over it, I`m still smiling and they are litter trained now and almost there. Just need to sort out the food aggression, they were so badly starved they are "food proud".
-
I`m still smiling and they are litter trained now and almost there.
;D
-
Thats a great poo report :ok: :ok:
Panacur treats Giardia so maybe they had that :-: it doesnt do a common tapeworm tho i think :-:
-
Glad that you are getting somewhere with them now
-
I have decided to take all of these back to the vets tomorrow; the poo is much better though not perfect but I cant cope with the constant food fights and wailing for food, this has gone on for 16 days now and to be honest I am at the end of my tether, they will eat anything in sight and fight each other and if I give extra food it overloads their tummies and poo goes runny again, am just at a total loss for once, they eat and their bellies bloat then go down again,if they still have worms they must be super tough ones, I`m still smiling but hiding the tears well.
-
Good luck for tomorrow T, I hope the vet can get to the bottom of things.
-
Do hope the vet can help
-
Do hope the vet can help
So do I because this is breaking my heart to watch and listen to the constant cries for more food and then see them attacking each other, I have added a load of boiled water to the food this morning to try to kid their tummies that they have had a bigger meal than theyve had.Its also wearing me down and I really am a miserable old boot at the minute, sorry to moan but I need to get it off my chest.
I guess the main problem is they have the brain of a 10plus week old kitten and the tummy size of a 5 week old. They are bright and putting weight on and their coats are improved so guess I`m doing something right. Been on the go since 5 and still got 6 more pens to clean so moan over and back to work.
-
T, dont ever apologise for moaning, it is necessary so things dont get on top of you. I hope the vet can help you sort something out for these little ones.
-
They have been examined thoroughly and vet says its psychological. Mental scaring from being starved so much is causing them to race to eat the food and filling them with air. Now somehow got to find a way of splitting 7 kittens up at mealtimes so they dont see one another and hopefully they will learn that there is no competition for the food and gradually eat more slowly.
Right now I want to kill the evil woman that did this to them.
-
Teresa that is awful, I hope they learn there is enough to go around soon, you must be a saint to deal with people like this and not hit them
-
Right now I want to kill the evil woman that did this to them.
She has done enough damage already, dont give her a guest room in your head.
I hope that the security of regular meals and individual feeds will gradually have an impact on their poor bruised liitle psyches.
-
Aww, the poor little babies. If anyone can work with them though, it is you T.
-
Bless those little Darlings -
Why do :censored: holes do this to little inocent lives - do they think it funny or clever. It makes me so >:( >:( >:(
-
Their poop is solid and they are using their litter tray, they are lovely and affectionate but the minute they see food they rip your hands to shreds.
-
Poor little things - I just hope they are not scared for life. Hopefully in time they will realise that food is available for their tums.
Just thank Goodness you have them in your safe warm loving hands.
Good news on the poop :)
-
Aww, that is so sad. How old are they now?
-
Des they will be 11 weeks on Monday and are the size of 5-6 week old kittens.
-
Aww, the poor babies.
-
Still all behaving like piranhas and fighting for every morsel though in fairness,Thomasina,Swifty and Gulliver have slowed down a little as has Jess the mother cat; but Thumbellina, Lilliput,Tinkerbelle and Titania are unbelievable dangerous when food is in sight.
They are all passing huge solid lumps now and in the litter tray.
-
Looks like only time will cure this and maybe their little bodies are also trying to catch up so they always feel hungry.
Terrible that kittens are so scared of being hungry that they fight over food. :(
-
Poor little mites, hopefully they'll get over their piranha attitude.
Although my coworker adopted two kittens from the RSPCA in York last year and the boy is still very food greedy - his mom had 9 kittens so they didn't get enough food to start out.
He still, a year on steals every bit of food, raids the fridge (yes he can open it) and loves crossants and will growl if you try and take it away.
-
Fingers crossed they come round quickly.
-
Thankfully we have had a miracle today Gulliver and Tinkerbelle went to their new home together and then Thumbellina and Thomasina went together. I will miss them but in a way am so relieved as the workload has been horrenous lately. That leaves mum and 3 kittens from this family still looking.
-
Good news!
-
That's wonderful news Teresa :Luv:
I'm sure Mum and babies will find a loving forever home soon :)
-
That is wonderful news, fingers crossed the others aren't waiting long.
