Title: Found a lump
Post by: JoAnn on December 03, 2006, 19:25:12 PM
On Saturday night I was stroking my cat Lucy and I felt a bizarre lump on her spine which I hadn't noticed before.  It is under the skin and feels a bit hard yet a bit soft as well and it can be moved around slightly.  I am just a bit worried as to what this could be.  She is 10 years old and has never had any problems before.  We were at the vets last Thursday to get her yearly vaccine but we are going to the vets tomorrow to get it checked.
Anyone have any ideas as to what this could be?

I dont think any of us can give a diagnosis, you are best off waiting to see what your vet says - but not all lumps are cancerous, they can get fatty lumps.

As Desley said not all lumps are "bad" lumps but.  You have done the right thing by getting her booked in to the see the vet who.  Hope it all goes well and please keep us informed.

Good luck at vets, it also could be a cyst.

Is the lump anywhere near where she had her jabs or where her microchip could have gone, do you think?

Just a quick line to say am thinking of Lucy. I remember how worrying it was when we discovered Tom's 1st lump. He was about 10 too. He now has 2 fatty lumps (I suspect from too much Tuna as I knew no better in the past) both of which are nothing to worry about. I think the fact that you can move Lucy's lump is good news. Hope so anyway. Rebecca probably has a point too.  Good luck at the vets Joann.

Fingers crossed it's nothing, we had a cat years ago with fatty lumps, vet was completely unconcerned!

Thanks to all the replies.  It is a cyst but the vet doesn't want to remove it yet.  We've to take her back in 3 months for a check up even if the lump has disappeared.  Lucy is alright a bit grumpy at being taken to the vets twice in one week but she's been getting lots of attention to make up for it.  :Luv:

I am glad the vet doesnt think it is anything serious, fingers crossed it goes away by itself.
