Title: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 26, 2007, 22:38:03 PM
Her mum abandoned her and 2 siblings on a path, unfortunately the other 2 were being eaten by maggots and didnt make it.
Shes already cost me £130 as had to make a visit to vets now as there was a maggot up her botty. The vet has flushed her out so fingers crossed she makes it :luck:

She didnt like the bottle but she attacked a bowl of meaty slop with great gusto  ;D Iv never seen such enthusiatic wading and gobbling

The best thing about my vets bill was i may have found her a home with the vets sister  ;D

She has a huge pair of lungs and is so cheeky already.

What a lovely little grunge-puppy and what a gorgeous name. :Luv: :Luv: Poor wee kitty to be alone so young. I presume her table manners  will improve once her mouth is the right shape for solids?? poor baby having to have gone onto solids so young and no mother to teach her. Lucky she is with you MM

Shes lovely and fingers crossed for her.

Were the other 2 already dead MM or did the poor things endure torture ?

I've heard a rabbit sceam due to being eating by maggots..thats something that I'll always rememeber, just awful  :(
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 27, 2007, 16:03:29 PM
Grunge puppy, i like it, suits her well  She got in such a mess as i wasnt expecting her to dive bomb the bowl or i would have used a saucer.
Shes alternating between bottle and bowl today and oh i got my first poo!  ;D

Teresa, how often are you feeding Pushkin & Eugenie?

Lynn, the guy who found them did the deed as they were in a disgusting state and i doubt they would have made the drive to the emergency vets. Petunia was lucky she was cleaner than the others and only had a few eggs stuck to her.
Iv heard a rabbit scream too, just horrible  :(

MM

Say a big thank you to this guy from me. What a horrible decision to have to make and what a brave thing to carry it through.

Little Petunia is a doll.  :wow: All paws here are crossed for her, and I'm sure you'll agree she can be as sloopy as she likes so long as she keeps eating and fighting.  :Luv:

Post by: Teresa Pawcats on August 27, 2007, 16:54:17 PM
Millys mum Pushkin and Eugenie are 4 weeks old today have 4 hourly feeds and last 6 hours overnight now.

Its quite normal for tiny ones to swim in their food, I`ve had some that paddy paw in it,suck and fall asleep. I`m sure she will thrive and soon learn some table manners in your wonderful care. Non scented baby wipes are brilliant I`m currently going through 3 packs a week.

Glad I`m not the only one on here who appreciates the finer qualities of poo

Will look forward to more pics of this very special little one.

I agree PB, not something i would be able to do tho  :(

Thanks Teresa, i started on 3 hr but she wasnt very keen so changed to 4 which is better. She is a small eater after her inital pig out.
I think a proper size poo may alter things

I will try to get her to keep still for pics, she can pick up some speed with her wobbly legs!

hows my little grunge-puppy tonight? Feeling a lot better I hope. What a horrible fate for her and her siblings. Glad she is safe now. She will be much relieved (as will we all) when she has done a proper poo and her innards are all the right bright pinky colour we love. :Luv: :Luv:

Well done Milly's Mum for taking this poor wee thing on.  You must be so upset re Petunia's siblings - I've never heard of such a thing before, it's horrific....

I think you, Teresa and all the others who do 4 hourly feeds are amazing - your dedication is absolutely outstanding is giving these little kits a chance in life.

Well done Milly's Mum

Good to see a kitty enjoying its grub  ;D

Sorry about the other 2 babies  :'( - Maybe the vet should give you free or cheap treatment if his sister is taking Petunia on

Isn't petunia one of Tan's replacement words? :evillaugh:  -I hope she is really called petunia and not an unmentionable body-part  :evillaugh:
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: CurlyCatz on August 28, 2007, 09:57:43 AM
Rooting for her here, it certainly looks hopeful when one decides to swim in their food  :evillaugh:

I dread to think how the man "did" the deed though, i hate hearing about diy jobs  :(

Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Pinkbear (Julie) on August 28, 2007, 10:12:39 AM
I've never heard of such a thing before, it's horrific....

Sadly, I've seen it before - too many times! It often effects long haired cats that are neglected and matted and cannot clean themselves. Food or poo gets stuck to their fur, along comes a fly and lays eggs and the rest we don't want to think about.

These babies' mum must have been in a bad way herself as she wasn't keeping them clean. Poor darling....  :'(
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Mark on August 28, 2007, 10:22:10 AM
Another good reason to not leave wet food around for long in the heat. I found eggs in another bowl yesterday even though there was no sign of a fly.

Aww, fingers crossed for her, and RIP her siblings.
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 28, 2007, 18:12:16 PM
BC, she did a lovely poo last night and her eating has picked up since then  ;D

Shes very demanding, not for food but cuddles! She has some teddies in with her but they are not good enough for madam  :innocent:

Mark it was vets now and i tried pleading my case but no discount! I guess its different to a practice where the vets own the business and can decide things like that.
Petunia is definatley named after the flower and not a body part
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: blackcat on August 28, 2007, 20:20:30 PM
very happy to hear that, given the location of some of her maggots. Have seen a fly-blown sheep on more than one occasion, and it is a very good argument for docking lambs tails.
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 28, 2007, 21:04:29 PM
Yep, im pleased too, the flush she had would have killed any eggs/maggots up there  :evillaugh:

On her last feed she did me 3 pieces of poop  ;D ;D

Shes going to be a stroppy girl when shes older, her new slave is going to be well worked  :heeee heeee:

Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 29, 2007, 17:32:12 PM
Since lasts nights poops she has upped her milk intake to 15ml a meal  ;D

The hunting instinct is showing in her already, and big toes are her choice victim  :o she stalks them and then SMACK. My dad says she young and should be allowed to get away with it but i dont want to end up with a 9week old pyscho kitten!
I was stalked for years by my childhood cat and wouldnt want to inflict that on someone else.

Other than blowing at her face i cant think of any other way to stop her? She isnt scared of having a bite either! :no no:
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: blackcat on August 29, 2007, 20:13:33 PM
Yes, anklebiting can be painful. try having a pingpong ball in your hand and throwing it for her to chase whenever she is 'shaping up' for a go. It gives her something else to think about and chase, and eventually she will get the hint...
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Pinkbear (Julie) on August 29, 2007, 23:25:55 PM
You can't stop them hunting, but you can encourage them to hunt something more appropriate than your pinkies.  :shy: Hows about a catnip mouse, or a feather on a string?   ;)

The Jumpster was 14 weeks when I rescued him and he was a  :censored: for pouncing on your toes at 3am. I got him a fishing rod toy and hung it about a foot above the floor at night... he left our toes alone, but kept us awake trying to 'kill' the mouse.  :evillaugh:

Petunia sounds like she's doing enormously well, bless her. What a relief! Keep up the good work and give her a scritch from me.  :Luv: :Luv:
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Millys Mum on August 30, 2007, 10:43:53 AM
Iv tried a mousey but she says they are not as nice to nibble  :evillaugh:
I dont mind what she hunts as long as its not humans   :scared:
Title: Re: Meet Petunia
Post by: Teresa Pawcats on August 30, 2007, 15:59:31 PM
She certainly sounds more advanced with her hunting skill than my little ones. I have hanging toys in their pen for them to play with instead of fingers and toes, they just like to kiss human noses..
Go get em Petunia you sound like a real fun kitten to me and great to hear you are doing so well.

Just caught up with Petunias story and take my hat off to you for her thriving feistiness after such a horrific start in life.

I dont mind what she hunts as long as its not humans   :scared:

May be she thinks she is entitled, since it was us who put her in such dire straits ...

Persist with the distractions, she will learn to refocus. She is such a lovely little bunny, i wish I did not have  a houseful...

She's got star quality, that pud, she'll leave her little paw prints on everyone's hearts.  :Luv: :Luv:

I'm doing a regular 'progress' report, with pics, for my babies' new owners. A bit like a baby book..? Won't it be fun to look back on those pics and character descriptions and see how they've changed in 2,5,10 years time.  :wow: Petunia's new meowmy will really treasure those pics of her paddling in her dinner.  :evillaugh:

She just gobbled 30ml of milk and she literally grew infront of my eyes! She looks heavily pregnant  and is now sleeping it off  :Luv:
