Haven't used it but it's actually a human drug for hyper-T.  Vets have to try felimazole first and if no improvement or the cat is affected by severe side effects then they can prescribe it, think it's called carbimazole also.

Thats right Helen it is.  The veterinary one is relatively new obviously since the law of having to use veterinary licensed drugs first came about (or atleast became more strictly adhered to) its used quite often from what i can gather.  Prior to this though neomercs was basically the treatment for most cats and i suppose there must have been the odd one who it didnt agree with most cats got on fine.

I may or may not be right in thinking that the veterinary type one perhaps doesnt need to be given so often ? neomercs were always twice or sometimes even 3 times a day depending on control, which for some folk with a very unstable hyper t cat found this abit difficult.

I think you are quite right.

The reason I ask is someone has given me a pot, not of course that I  can give them away as they are a perscription drug.  ;).

Ah i see  ;)

I wonder if any vet would perhaps prescribe these equally as good but cheaper brand of meds to charity cats to save on their pockets ?

My persian Poppy was on neomercazole before felimazole was on the scene, she didnt do very well on it, often sick.

They were not perscribed for any of our cats nor by our vet. they were perscribed by the vet that I would not take a dying flea too. A shop customer took then into the shop as they had lost their cat.  There is also some Antirobe but we can use those.
