I got my cat tree from the same seller on ebay. I'm really pleased with mine too. Only thing is they don't seem to bother with it anymore  :-:

lucifers indoor only atm and he loves his tree- theres a thread with pic of him on it http://www.purrsinourhearts.co.uk/index.php?topic=6787.0
hes not scratching it really (my sofas just bigger and soft and squishy as well as scratchable  ;D ) but he sits at the top and carries toys up and drops them off and uses it to spy on me/steal things from me/bop me on the head

i dont think they like leather so much, my old flat had 2 leather sofas and he didnt show the slightest interest in them. my new sofa is however one of those thick woven material ones, so it can take it, but a few patches are a little shabby looking! as you say , its hard to stop them and in the scheme of things its not the end of the world!!

 my little monster

lol, they all are but we'd never change them!

I think the more mischievious they are the better - so funny !
