Title: Advice Please
Post by: sheryl on August 15, 2007, 14:49:47 PM
Hi all, my elderly neighbour died a couple of weeks ago although we only found out last weekend - he hasnt lived in his bungalow full time for a while because he stayed with his "lady friend" - he used to come everyday and feed his cats who have always lived outside with access to a shed via a cat flap.  The "Lady Friend" came and fed the cats on Sat but has not been since and we fed them last night and this morning.
The old man always said that the cats are feral but the little Tabby and white one is so cute and loveable (she looks quite old but hard to tell because she is so scruffy), the black one takes the food but will not come close.
I feel so sorry for them but really cant keep them - although the little Tabby one has been coming in (ive been callin her Daisy) Im worried about calling CP incase they take them and then PTS.

Where is this?

Why would CP put them to sleep? They may not have room for them, but they do have a no PTS policy...  :sneaky:

We are just outside of Grantahm in Lincs, if the "lady friend" hasnt been by the weekend I will call the CP.  I will carry on feeding them at the moment and give them some well desreved TLC - thats if i can get near the black one

As ong as they have access to their "home/shed" and you are feding them regularly they should be ok for a while until they can get into a shelter.

Well done for helping them ;)

Some branches do, especially FIV+ cats. They advertise as a no kill charity which annoys the hell out of me.

Keep feeding them and you'll gain the trust of the other one, well done for being proactive and not ignoring the problem.

Thanks all, got up this morning and "Daisy" was sitting on the door step, she had a nice big breakfast and OH is going to Frontline her this afternoon, still trying to gain the trust of the Black girl.

Hi, we are having a bit of a nightmare - I called the local rescue and they have said that because the man died (I should have said she was a stray) they cant take her because he may have made provision for the cats in his will and we will have to get his "lady friends" consent for her to take the cats.  Daisy doesnt seem very well so we are going to take her to the vets tonight (another hammering to the credit card)  and the black one still wont come near me although she will tolerate my OH.  I wish I could take Daisy indoors but she flew at my coonie the other night, I had to catch hold of Roxy (coonie) because although she is an old girl I think she would have given Daisy what for!!

Well, the vet visit didnt happen - she has been around every day, all day but yesterday evening there was no sign of her, I phoned the vets and explained and they said that if she turned up that we could take her up until 7pm.  Little madam appeared at 7.20pm.  She seems a lot better today and slept in our greenhouse last night, I went out this morning and thought "its warm in here" OH had put the heater on for her!

Im hoping that "Lady feriend"  will turn up tonight so that we can get these poor little souls sorted out.

Blackie is still around and judging from the black hairs on the bed in the greenhouse I think she must have had a warm and cosy night aswell.  ;D

Blackie came and had a cuddle last night  ;D and she is a real sweetie

I put a note throught the letter box yesterday morning and "Lady Friend" actually phoned me last night - she is trying to sort something out for the 2 cats - both are females and the balck one is called Blackie and "Daisy" is actually Flash - she is 15, bless her and has got a tumour up her nose and in her throat, apparently she was on antibiotics but they made her ill so they stopped the treatment.

We have said that we will care for them until she is sorted out, she seems to be doing the best she can and is understandably upset at the death of her partner, I have given her the number of a rescue near here and she is going to phone them so please keep fingers crossed for these 2 gorgeous golden oldies
