Lucas & Riley were neutered on Monday morning, Riley is completely back to normal racing around and being generally naughty but I'm a bit worried about Lukey. He has eaten but not massive quantities like Riley, he is very subdued and just seems to be sleeping alot. Riley keeps biting him and making him squeal, normally he'd fight back but he just seems to lay there and not want to fight back. He's not completely miserable and he has had some purry cuddles I was just worried because of the contrast in the two of them - also noticed his ears were abit hot last night.
How long has it taken anyone elses boys to recover from the op?

How long has it taken anyone elses boys to recover from the op?
Usually very quickly. Our vet always checks again (free) on the 3rd day to ensure all is well.
Perhaps you could give your vet a ring.
-
helen my vet said charlie would eat little and often for the first few days as it's mostly the anaesthetic that makes them feel a bit poorly. is he drinking a lot?
my vet checked on the 3rd day too, a good idea i think :)
xx
-
Thanks, just rang them and they said he should be fine by now so best to take him in to get checked over, have an appointment at 2:30 - I will bet you a pound it won't be free though! He never ever drinks water and hasn;t had any cat milk either, he has eaten but it's more the overall lethargy that's worrying me.
-
sounds like a reaction to the anaesthetic, poor wee lad. I hope they can put your mind at rest and he's himself asap. Keep us posted x
-
aww helen, what a stressful few days you've had
i'm sure everything will be fine though, fingers crossed for Lukey now :Luv:
-
Bloody Hell Helen, you will need to take out shares in the vets.
Come on Lu Lu get all better for Mummy, fingers crossed that all goes well - positive vibes on the way xxx
-
:thanks: everyone
Lu Lu is home safe and sound... Before I took him he was sat on my knee having a purr session and there were two 2p sized damp patches on my trousers :shy: He moved onto the other leg and then there was another damp patch. The vet said that his 'bits' don't look infected and he doesn't have a temperature but in light of the discharge (not puss or blood just very watery) he has given him an antibiotic injection and 3 days worth of antibiotic tablets rather than potentially let an infection develop.
He said that sometimes the anaesthetic can make them lethargic for a day or two but it is really the contrast between him and Riley that worried me. Riley was in the vets for two full days, had a GA on Monday and a sedative on Tuesday but is acting like nothing has happened - he is racing round like a lunatic. If Lukey is no better by Friday I have to take him back again. He also showed me a little area on his bottom gum that has a tiny yellow point, apparently one of his back teeth is overshot and is rubbing on the gum. He said not to worry about it at the moment but to wait until he has finished teething (I found some little teeth the other day :)) and see how it is then.
Oh, and Ela - I owe you a pound :evillaugh: They didn't charge me for the appointment just £10 odd for the injection and tablets.
-
Helen what a rough time of it!
With any luck he just wants his share of the worry and fuss, and will be fine with the ABs.
-
Aww the wee mite, hope hes better soon
Big hugs for you all
-
Sorry to hear you're having more kitty stress, Helen  But glad that Lucas seems to be ok - fingers crossed he perks up and doesn't have to go back to the vets. Tell those boys to stop causing you worry! Oh and give them both a sloppy kiss from me too.
I didn't think they'd charge you as neutering usually includes a free follow up consultation anyway.
-
Glad hes ok Helen ;D
-
Oh, and Ela - I owe you a pound
Thief pen fund I think
-
So glad he's okay.....you are all having a hard time at the mo
-
he's having a bit of a rough time of it poor mite. extra cuddles are prescribed ...
-
Poor Lukey, I do hope he improves very quickly. I am sure you will wizz him back to the vets if he doesnt.
I saw my brothers kitten the day he came back from vets and he was rushimng around like nothing had happened.
-
What an anxious time for you. I hope Lukey feels better very soon poor wee boy. x
-
He seems to be walking really stiffly, not sure if that's because of the op or maybe he has hurt himself? It's not majorly obvious and I don't think someone who didn't know him would spot that he is walking oddly but because I know him it's obvious to me. He is eating and will have purry cuddles but is still not himself, I was going to take him back to the vets but then I realised it hadn't even been 24 hrs since his antibiotic jab so I think I need to be a bit patient :shy:
Riley on the other hand is manic, racing round doing backflips and getting in/on places he shouldn't be :innocent:
-
Maybe it is where the antibiotic is wearing off and he feels a little discomfort. Give him hugs and kisses from me and hope he feels better soon.
-
maybe his nerves were a little damaged by the op and/or he has some bruising in what is a very tender area - and Riley's op just went better? If you are worried, don't wait but ring up the vet and see if they can fit you in. Poor little boy. I remember a bit of yowling from one of mine after his op (and the horrendous vet telling me he was a 'drama queen'!) when he used the litter tray. Antibiotics normally work pretty fast. Maybe he needs something to dull the pain a bit?
Let us know how he is. Glad Riley's none the worse for wear. Purrs to Lukey x
-
Helen hope Lukey's ok :(
Don't hesitate to take him back if he gets any worse, bc of course, you know him best
-
Hope Lukey is feeling better soon bless him :Luv: xxx
Sending both boys lots of love and gentle cuddles xxx
-
Sounds like he is one of the minority who bruise easily and are extra sensitive in that area helen, possible the wet stuff is abit like the serum you get from a blister type thing or its quite possible if he has been very tender there he's dribbling a tiny bit of urine, this is mostly very common after the op before they even get home. I'd have thought the vet might have given him a painkiller inj though, i would have :tired:
I hope he is all perky and back to his normal self by the weekend :care:
-
He seems a bit brighter tonight, more vocal like he normally is but is definitely not himself still. Riley keeps biting him in that area making him squeal, it's like he knows that he is really sore as normally he will bite the neck or ears when they are play fighting but he's going up to him and going straight for that area >:( He's eating and toileting as normal it's just he's not doing very much - no playing or chasing, he just lays there looking sad :( He's still a bit stiff looking and couldn't jump on to the top of the climber llike he normally does, he sort of made his way up there gingerly.
Here's my little boy taken a few mins ago, he was having a tummy rub which is a good thing as he has been laying all curled up and not really responding to strokes.

Poor litle man, dont think he should be like that still .
-
Update: He just started playing with Riley's tail and bit it :evillaugh: That's more like it ;D
-
:yayyy: :cheer: :yayyy: :cheer: :yayyy:
Aw bless he's finally on the mend....poor Riley you better watch out :sneaky:
-
glad he sounds a little bit better Helen. Hope he's more himself today and rushing around by the weekend. what did the vet say? purrs to both boys x
-
Hi Helen how is the handsome Lukey tonight? :Luv:
The boys send him purrs as they now know how he feels ;)
-
Awwww how handsome is he, wee darling
Good to hear he is on the mend
:catlove:
-
Aw Helen, glad to hear that Lukey is on the mend
-
He is pretty much back to normal now, yowling for his dinner and running around. He was sick this morning but when I found the pile (on the bathroom floor not the carpet thankfully) it was his entire breakfast which was a large portion - he's not eaten as much as he normally does since he was starved on Sunday night so I think it was just a bit much for his tummy. He's had 3 more meals now so fingers crossed he's feeling better, one more day of
antibiotics Dairylea blobs but the TLC has been prescribed for life :Luv:
-
So pleased he is feeling better and keep on blobbin
-
yup he probably noshed it way too fast. So pleased he's feeling better and nearly off the blobs ;D Amazing little guy hasn't learnt how to whoops his breakfast on your carpet in the most visible place yet then?! :innocent:
-
Good news, Helen.
:Luv:
-
Hi Helen are the boys 100% now
-
Hi Helen are the boys 100% now
Yep, thankfully :) Lu Lu is back to his sweet happy self, I was getting worried that he had been emotionally affected by his op and was going to be sad forever :( He is back to chasing around, having major tummy rubs and eating for England :) Riley is still going at 100 miles an hour, blood test for his heart is still not back (rang this morning) but neither I nor the vet are overly worried as the results are expected to be normal ;D
-
:Flowers: good news :cuddle:
-
excellent news  hope the heart test is just fine too. x
-
Yay :yesss:
-
Just caught up with this thread and that's great news Helen ;D
I know how worrying it is as Widget was the same
Seems our boys are quite similar in more ways than one :sneaky: Widget took ages to jump on the work surface like Lukey and Guinness is as obedient as Riley
-
How did I not see this threat before? :shy:
Anyhow I'm glad Lukey is on the mend.those dairylea blobs really do work don't they? ;)
