I've been bidding on this after cody's reaction to the owl feather
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=330153903177&ssPageName=STRK:MEBI:IT&ih=014
I've just noticed the postage >:( How can anyone charge that much for posting feathers for chuffin sake >:(
-
Maybe the pheasant brings them himself - he'll weigh a pound or two, y'see! ;)
-
i should have plucked that one that killed itself on my leg :evillaugh: only joking, I bet cody will love these but i think i'll phone my uncle who takes care of reared pheasants for a gamie.
-
Just read ya Mussel post! :evillaugh: Sure you can do something with mussel shells and fevvas.... probly with white wine and garlic, thinkin about it!
-
I hear peacock feathers are good
-
The feathers are probably sent in a tube which is why they cost a bit more than normal postage.
BTW don't you have a local butcher near you who could provide you with a few "fresh" pheasant feathers. My local butcher regularly has game hanging outside and I often flutter my eyelashes at him and get a couple of nice tail feathers for the babies to play with ;)
-
MIne love peacock feathers but they need a human on one end >:(
They make most of money from postage on low value items cos ebay fees are so high now!

Its one of the ways to hide money from ebay lol, on the other hand he may live very far from the post office and costs lots of petrol to get them there lol
-
well i should have mailed him and said not to bother with a tube then..by the time cody gets em it wont make any difference
Yes sam i'll get some freebie ones next time me thinks fae my uncle. PS our normal butchers locally dont sell pheasants etc i dont think :-:
I was watching peacock and ostrich feathers but went for the cheapo pheasant ones..hey i'm scottish remember and they will do the same job :evillaugh:
(actually the real reason is the peacock and ostrich ones all seemed to be treated, i am hoping cody will be able to still smell the bird on the pheasant ones and get more fun out of them)

Please remember that nowadays it is not necessarily the weight, in this case as light as a feather springs to mind, but the size of the envelope also. Although I appreciate they will still be make a profit on postage and packing I expect.
-
Mine all love feathers too, but dont buy Peacock feathers Lynn, especially the ones with the "eye" in because they bring bad luck
-
I quite like a trip to Solihull park.
I get a nice few hours feeding bread to the ducks, geese and swans and come back with a few cast offs ;D
-
especially the ones with the "eye" in because they bring bad luck
How? Why?
thanks
-
Oooo its one of them things you never have in the house.....not supposed to have a piccie of a peacock either!!! Superstitions :scared:
-
OMG, I can't believe you can buy them on ebay, that's nuts .
My parents live on a farm and so pheasant feathers are always something we have as a standard cat toy, even giving them to friends cats for christmas pressies ;D!! I don't think the shooting season starts until September time, (actually just realised that September is only a couple of weeks away, could have fooled me with the pants weather :(!) Anyway, sorry, I was going to say if and when they get some feathers this year, I'm more than willing to post some out to you all. I'll let you all know when I can get some. I'm sure I can sneak them through the post at work too :evillaugh:, so postage won't be as extortionate as on ebay! From the recent posts though, I must just add I'm not encouraging fraud by using works post, please don't ban me!!!

I was about the say the same thing, I used to work a farm and my little sister picked up a peacock feather from there when she was a baby and my mum went berserk! She is so superstitious about them.
-
I didnt know about the peakcock feather, i wont be getting them then :shify:
-
Don't be such a wuss lynn! it's an old wifes tale .... :evillaugh:
I do not believe in all this supersistion rubbish and I have just bought 5 peacock feathers from ebay. of course if you never hear from me again you'll know it's all true and peacock feathers are bad luck! )
-
I thought being superstitious was bad luck :)
-
It defiantely is not an old wives tale, they really do bring bad luck - not a much as if you have a witches broomstick in the house though
-
I'm abit wary with superstitions so i'll play it safe me thinks :shy:
-
I have witches broomstick in my house its from one of my daughters fancy dress costumes at halloween, but my luck has been up and down.
maybe thats why I haven't won the lottery yet :)
-
Peacock feathers are a symbol of good luck and well-being throughout Asia and most of the world. An interesting exception is in certain parts of Eastern Europe where the feather often decorated warriors of the invading Mongol hordes and thus were associated with a bad era.
More peacock supersistions : http://globalpsychics.com/amusing-you/superstition/peacock.shtml .... the general opinion is that they are GOOD LUCK rather than bad.
-
Well were not likely to see any of them anytime soon :)
-
Maybe you should just buy him a feather boa instead?! He'll look tres charming!! And your house will be covered in colourful feathers!!!
-
Thanks Sam, cos i have about 5 more peacock feathers her for Sasa to mutilate ;D
-
Oh he has a feather boa LOL but it aint the same as a proper bona fida big feather ya know ;)
-
You are right the real feathers are much better and Sasa will tell anyone so ;D
-
Does anyone know a pheasant plucker or his mate! :evillaugh:
Interesting link. Started looking up all sorts of superstitions, like the stuff about women with red hair!

I bought one of these from PAH and wasnt very impressed....i ended up taking it off the cats as the feathers pull off pretty easily and they kept gagging on them >:(

What's wrong with women with red hair then .... mine is currently pillar box red!!
-
.... mine is currently pillar box red!!
Oh I did that to myself by accident once - it was a nasty shock as it was supposed to be a soft auburn. Tried putting Magic Silver White in to calm it down but ended up with a purple scalp to contrast with the pillar box red. The only solution was to go very dark brown (at the hairdresser this time). Very embarrassment!! :-[
-
   Mine was actually intentional. I wanted to be pillar box red :shy:
BTW if anyone wants 40 fluffybanana pheasant tail feathers check out this auction on ebay £2.99 +£2 p+p http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&rd=1&item=190138447841&ssPageName=STRK:MEWA:IT&ih=009

ahem.....
-
The Hair lol
-
Ok having seen the pillar box ... I would say I'm about two shades darker probably more sort of blood red.
-
I was interested in the red hair because mine's a dark red: "morello cherry" it said on the box. Covers the grey well.
http://globalpsychics.com/amusing-you/superstition/index-superstition.shtml#red
An Irish woman cursed men with labour pains!
-
Right girls were talking about feather cuts now to keep the thread going
>Hippy do you find that using the red dyes that with having grey in your hair it fades quicker than say a brown dye? ;)
I am not totally grey btw but am blessed tortured by a Mallen (sp?) streak :shy:

Zephyr is over the moon tonight not only did Da bird arrive but he also got a packaged of peacock feathers ... he thinks is Xmas.

-
I love watching cats playing with peacock feathers, trouble is they are soon wrecked in this house.
Zephyr is very handsome.
-
Looks like Zepher has already killed da bird lol!!!
Gorgeous :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
I love it when they play like that ;D
-
Letty is the BIG feather fan in our house... theres a lovely toy, £1.95 from Selfridges would you believe... 1 metre long bouncy stick with another couple of metres of elastic string on... and then a small weight and bunch of bright feathers on the end.
Letty has just finished her second one, despite me being v strict about supervised play only... :-:
-
Ruth, I don't leave it long enough to notice whether it fades, because I have to do it every two months or so to cover the roots. When I do the roots I don't mess about with the root application, but do an all-over one.
I used to have a 'Morticia' streak (or is it the one from the Munsters? I get them muddled), but it's more general now! :sigh: Age!
-

 Definitely, eh?
Bring it on. :evillaugh:
Seriously tho you're making out something to be a fact when there's absoutely no way of proving it... and that's not really on.

For those interested in all this sort of thing, Professor Richard Dawkins has a programme called Enemies of Reason on at the moment - I believe that the second one is broadcast on Monday on C4 at 20.00? Sadly I missed the first one last Monday.
