Title: Why do my cats lick me?
Post by: Antonia Jane on July 26, 2007, 22:12:11 PM
Hi all, sorry if this is really obvious, but I'm just wondering... why do cats lick humans? Do they think we're dirty, or is it affection? Just wondering, as my wee girl is constantly doing it and if it's a sign of her not being happy with something I'd like to help her...

Thanks, Antonia Jane.

They are attracted to the taste of the salts in your skin.  ;)

They want us to smell like them, to create a common bond. They're also 'mothering' us, even if they are male. I think this is similar to the way that friendly cats wash each other: it comforts them and created a family smell.
