It seems cheap to me, but is it a good one? I may buy it for use to help rescues if it passes muster.

I have used these traps before and they are not my favourite tbh :shy: The thing I don't like about them is the door drops down from the outside and comes down with some force which is quite worrying if you are trapping kittens. I did actually put an empty coke can on it's side just out of curiousity and the trap door actually flattened the middle of it :Crazy: When I've had to use these type of traps, I've usually put a small stick just under where the door drops, so it's not quite as harsh..........but they are better than nothing ;)

OH is pretty handy with such things and may be able to adjust the mechanism so it's not so harsh. But I wouldn't want to run a risk of possible injury. :-[ The trap recommended by CAT77 is over £80! :faint:
The CP that I volunteer for had a call from a gent up the road who needed a trap the other day. It would have been dead handy if I had a trap then as he was only 5 minutes drive from me. But odds are if I got one, I might not need it again. :shy:

The trap looks similar to the traps we use (we have 12) but ours cost Oh! I can't remember I know they used to be £80 plus but I think they cost more now. Of course if you have a trap it is wise to have a crush box as well.
The CP that I volunteer for had a call from a gent up the road who needed a trap the other day. It would have been dead handy if I had a trap then as he was only 5 minutes drive from me. But odds are if I got one, I might not need it again.
I can't imagine that it would not be needed again, I know if we had 20 traps most would be out all the time, even if only to trap an escaped domestic cat.

Actualy that trap i lent that gentleman (as the RSPCA wouldnt help catch a feral to be done)! was one of the large metal ones (much better for ferals then the normal ones). and i know they are well over 100 to buy...We do have a few traps spread around our branch, i am sure with abit of planning we could send one over your way and you be the person who deals with them out that way.. Trouble is not sure if we have any spares (i hope so)))...We do have a "trap" that could do with abit of DIY repair as a fiesty feline too offence to it and it thus doesnt work that well...I think the smaller black ones are around 60 but then i havent done alot of research on them as havnt had the time...
Your will be surprised how much all that cat trapping stuff is.. The really odd thing is the man that rang, his wife works in a vets, and you would of thought they would of had a trap somewhere especially as they are very rural.. Perhaps they may consider getting one and donating it to us.... (we should be so lucky!!) but you never know... Especially as the RSPCA wouldnt help him (unless of course he was fibbing) apparently they were less then helpful.. Even though he agreed to have the fellow back after being done and tested...(although we think he is FIV free as his other cats that had been bulllied by him have all tested okay) a relieft there then..

If the word feral is mentioned to our local said society they automatically ask the caller to ring us. Then again the same can be said if the word stray is mentioned. Once there was a feral Mum, the people on the farm managed to tame the kittens and an Inspector (not our local branch of said society) went and collected the kittens and just left mum with no mention of having her spayed, Of course we did trap her and had her treated for fleas/worms and spayed.
and i know they are well over 100 to buy...
I had an idea that the last few had cost us over £100 but was not sure. We have also recently purchased 2 catch nets which were about £108 each

Well, Sharon... if a drama turned to a crisis and we have sudden and temporary need of traps, I found a lady in London who'll help. :sneaky: But she would need them back v. quick as she lends them all over the country.
But if there's one needing work on it, pass it to me as hubby can fix all kinds of things - it's his job. ;) If there's spares needed, he'll find them or make them. It can't be any harder than putting a Disney show together.
I still think it would be good to have my own trap which, of course, would be on perminant availability to CP. That way, I wouldn't feel bad should Ron in Brighton need one. I can see what my Anniversary pressie is going to be...! :evillaugh:

Thats the same trap I used to trap a feral. (the one MM posted)
I would have to say that with this the cat has to be trapped on the first attempt as the sound would make them too wary to try it again. I left it open in my kitchen and all 4 of my cats went into it and got trapped but never more that once, the door comes down with a right crash. I would say for that price though worth getting a few. ;D

I have always found MD exports abit pricey, but know that CP uses them alot.. I have no idea how much CP charges of if we get discount, sometimes if you ask they knock a few quid off.... However, if they are too cheap they usually are very difficult to set or dont work that well.

All ours are from there. I must say they are quite robust and are in constant use and some have been so for many years.
I will say though as previously advised we had a few problems with the collapsible traps as kittens can get out.

I've got a couple of these and they are okay.....a little awkward getting the cats out as there's only one door so you have to watch your fingers :evillaugh:
The best one by far is the mdcexport one that Milly's mum posted the link for.....pricey but well worth the money. This is the one of mine that I tend to have in use most of the time, it's sensitive and solid which is what you need ;)

Instincts tell me to save my money up for the MD one as CAT77 seem to plug it and they must trap more cats than anyone could ever hope to. :evillaugh:

You are quite right we trap hundreds a year using these traps

My trusty MD one has been on the go for about 15 years and is brilliant I do a lot of feral colonies so this one was well worth the cost.
I also have the gold premier one which is ideal for kittens.
A crush cage to transfer to is an essential.
