Title: Suzie's Memorial Garden
Post by: Gillian Harvey on July 16, 2007, 13:51:27 PM
I liked Liz's idea about a memorial garden, but Suzie's favourite spot in the garden was under a tree, where not much would grow. So I had an old stone birdbath in another part of the garden (mostly hidden by weeds!), which I thought would look nice in that spot. It has this well known little verse on it:

The kiss of the sun for pardon
The song of the birds for mirth
One is nearer God's heart  in a garden
Than anywhere else on earth

The tree is a weeping ornamental pear and it creates a loevely sort of grotto. The area is not quite finished yet, (bit more weeding to do!) because I've got a lovely statue of a little girl (maybe a fairy, not sure) sitting on a post, which I'm going to put the other side. Just doing this has really helped, and I feel so drawn to that spot now, I go every morning and every evening (and several other times during the day!)

This is it, and the other picture is Joe - paying his respects maybe? or just really pleased I've made a nice new place for him to sit? either way, I'm glad coz Suz won't be lonely (not that she's actually there, but in spirit I hope)

What a lovely idea   It must be nice to have somewhere so pretty to go and remember her, especially as it was her favourite place in the garden

Thats a lovely thing to do.

I think Joe will be sitting there having a little chat with Suzie and keeping her company.

That's lovely Gillian. It's really nice that Joe is keeping her company and he probably feels very close to her when he's sitting there.

Ahh that's so lovely. Joe obviously knows it was her favourite sunbathing spot and feels close to her there.

This is it with the little girl statue. Was going to put it the other side of the bird bath, but it just didnt look right there, so moved it to another place, and that wasnt quite right either, so this was the third move! - and it is soooo heavy!  ;D

I'lll plant some things to cover the fence and around the statue, so should look nice next year. I've been faffing around with this all day, when I really should have been working, but it kinda took over and I've been obsessing a bit about getting it just right.

Thats lovely and I wouldnt be surprised if your other cat  went there for company. After we lost Smudge, Fluffy would sit close to where we burried Smudge for hours at a time and it never used to be her spot-she usually hung out the other side of the garden. So when Fluff got PTS we buried her there too.....

Awww!, thats just like Joe, he never usually sits in that spot either. Yesterday I caught Honey sneaking in there and reaching up with a front paws to have a drink out of the birdbath, wish I'd been quick enough to snap that, she looked so cute! Ben walked up the garden when I first did it, and his eyes were out on stalks, as if to say, oh gawd, what the hec is that! and made an obvious detour, what a numpty  ;D
