Called out to a house on Tuesday was taken through to the kitchen where the stench was unbelievable; the man opened an understair cupboard,it looked like the black hole of Calcutta; one by one out came tiny bodies almost blinded by the daylight, there were 5 kittens from 2 litters (the others I am told had died), 2 adult females 1 is possibly early pregnant and an entire Tom. The man then went upstairs and carried down an obviously pregnant little one.
The little pregnant one is in an isolation pen on her own and making good progress already, eating ,using tray and this morning we got our first purr.
The possible early pregnant and 5 kittens some of which are her own are together in the big chalet with outdoor run, they are all choosing to sleep in the outdoor run and go inside only for food and toilet;we have 6 litter trays in there but the amount of poos hidden in corners was unbelievable yesterday. This morning some trays had been used but so had the bed and the floor and the scratching post poo everywhere, I guess we`ll get there eventually.
The tom cat and other female are at the vets being neutered.
I got a request from the people to give them a kitten back yesterday, strange thing when I replied to her I had it in my mind that they had all been rehomed, cant imagine why.
Will post some pics when they are all less timid and settled.
-
I'm glad the poor little cats are all with you now and will eventually go to good homes.
-
Owners? Did they really have owners?
Well done you on rescuing this family from that awful situation - if I was a little closer I would have a couple off you.
-
:Luv: Well done glad all the cats are doing well
-
got a request from the people to give them a kitten back yesterday,
Sadly they will get one from somewhere, although I am sure you will keep an eye on the situation and ensure all cats in the home will be neutered/spayed.
-
Poor things. :scared: Thank goodness they are at Paws Inn.
Will you be able to take the two currently at the vet as well? I imagine space is getting rather tight...
-
Owners? Did they really have owners?
Yep, they definately had "owners" just not "carers."
Poor things, what makes someone think keeping cats in a cupboard under the stairs is looking after them properly? Glad they're with you, Teresa.
-
The 2 cats at vets have to go back there, she is adamant that she wont part with the female, she doesnt want the tom but I have said he must go back for the time being, I just dont have the room and am already juggling space for a mum and feral kittens who will be here hopefully tomorrow. I am going to give her food and check up regularly, thats the best I can do at present, not good enough but a start. I am praying that the cupboard will be rendered useless.I feel so inadequate.
-
Oh Teresa how awful, At least the babes are in excellent hands (and paws!) at the inn now.
The actions of the human race will never fail to amaze me :(

This is heartbreaking. Maybe a call to the RSPCA when they are back would be in order. Surely with the new animal welfare bill, people can't keep cats in a cupboard?
Poor babies :'(
-
Thats awful, what were they thinking? :-:
Hope the kittys all get better and find a home where they are wanted.
-
Wow, I wonder how they had the absolute cheek to expect that you might give them a kitten back, Teresa!
Hope life is better for all the kitties from now on :shy:
-
Probably will be except for the 2 that have to go back :'(
-
I have been there this afternoon and helped clean a utility room out for the 2 I have taken back (vet neutered them yesterday); I have left her with dry and tinned food and told her I will call regularly to check on them. Her cupboard is now full of junk from utility room.
Hopefully things will work out
-
Teresa, you've done all you can and will continue to do so. You're only one person - and an amazing one at that from everything I keep reading on here. :)
Hope the little ones in your care get loving homes soon and the two there start to live a life that's a massive improvement on their previous time with their owners.
-
Poor cats and kittens and thank goodness for you
I am sure we would love some pictures when you have time but their care comes first.
-
Glad she knows she is being :shify: - it might make her wary

Heres a few pics, the first is the pregnant little lady who was upstairs in the house she is doing really well ,shes using her tray now too.
The others are mum with five kittens from 2 litters who were in the cupboard, they are slowly coming out of their shells and 3 of the kittens are playing now. All have third eyelid showing and slight tummy upsets, they will be seeing vet next week when they are more settled. 5 litter trays had poop in this morning, just one heap on the floor, think we are getting there. No names yet they are all girls bar one.

-
They are lovely and it's great to hear that they are settling down so well.
-
Words fail me :( How could anybody treat animals like this? Thank goodness they are safe with you now Teresa, from one extreme to the other
-
Awwww I love the bottom pic - kitty with tongue sticking out ;D and second from bottom - the one sleeping and the one washing mum...aaaaw :Luv: :Luv:
Teresa, I hope they are all reserved or homed when I come to Paws Inn on 29th, don't think I could resist :Luv: :Luv:
-
To assist the naming committee for the kittens how about the theme from Little Women :
Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy and the boy Laurie or Theo?
Mum could be Marmee.
And Mum to be Miss Norton
;)
-
So many and they look so gorgeous ;D
-
Awwww, bless 'em! Glad they're starting to come out of their shells a bit. It must be hard for them - having been deprived of real socialisation until now.
-

-
They are all beautiful - Teresa, I still cannot believe what a wonderful rescue you have - these babies are all so lucky to be with you now.
-
Two lots of poop on floor this morning and so much wee the carpet has had to be destroyed. Two of the kittens are still quite traumatised, the others are playing but so timid bless them. The mother cat is becoming increasingly confident and enjoys being stroked so I guess its 2 steps forward and one step backward. The whole family is still choosing to stay in the little outside run even to sleep, they only seem to go inside the chalet for food and toilet. This is going to take time.
-
Good to hear they are doing well, keep up the good work St. Teresa
-
What an awful situation! I am so pleased that they are now being well cared for, well fed and most importantly well loved for the first times in their little lives. You do such an amazing job T.
I've got my fingers crossed that the possibly early pregnant puss isn't, poor little girl.
They are gorgeous cats and kittens and they will simply blossom under your love and care :Luv:
-
:cuddle: Teresa, I am sending you this huge hug!
The work you do is amazing. :) I'm sure you'll be able to make them see not all humans are completely unaware of their emotional wellbeing.
Poor things.
-

And Tarquin
And Tasha
And Amelia the very pregnant girl
-
I like the way Tara is hamming it up in the background of tammy's pic - bit of a show-girl there!! :Luv:
-
Sounds like they are scared to be inside incase they get shut in again :(
I am sure that they will learn quite fast that you will not hurt them and they are able to come and go as they like................just a matter of trust ;D ;D ;D
-
Glad they've got names now - gives them all a bit more of an identity! :)
I guess it's like everything - it's going to take time.
-
Alice and 3 of the kittens coming to me for a fuss this morning, the remaining kittens still very timid. All poop in the litter trays, only 3 puddles on the floor;progress is being made. They are all looking so much happier and healthier than when they arrived earlier in the week; I just look at them and feel a big lump in my throat and keep fighting back the tears of joy that they are now out of that hell hole. They are lovely and deserve so much more bless them.
-
They are lovely and deserve so much more bless them
I am sure that you will ensure that they will get the life they so richly deserve
-
Yes, thank goodness they are out of there.
Which are the timid two?
-
Tansy and Tara are the little scaredy ones.
-
Aww, I am so glad they are with someone like you, and are going to get the chance of a wonderful life now, if anyone can help them trust, you can.
-
I've only just caught up with this... I just can't understand how folks can do this sort of thing, not when I look at my two free to come and go in the house and garden and be waited upon hand and foot.
This sort of thing makes me so cross, but kudos to Teresa for taking these little ones on and giving them what they need.
-
Awwww they are all beautiful :) Mum Alice looks tiny!
I love love love Tammy... look at that little gorgeous innocent face ;D :Luv:
-
Oh Teresa how could you! How could you!!!!
You know my weakness for B&W babies with little smudgies on their noses! How am I going to leave without one of them?! Tell me that! Huh Missus! I swear these cats do it just because they know they have weaklings like me coming to visit soon.
:catluv: I love them. I want them.. all! Lexy will make do. I promise, nasty claw and all. :gimme: :gimme: :gimme:
-
Still considering changing from Paws Inn to Piddle Towers or maybe Poop Hall, almost there but one kitten still pooping and at least one maybe two weeing everywhere; all off to vets in the morning for check up and vaccinations if vet thinks they are well enough apart from little Amelia the pregnant one. Also taking the mum Alice to see if she is indeed pregnant. All 5 kittens play happily now but they are still all sleeping in the outdoor run.
Ruth No need for you to leave without one, you can stay here with them all piddle an all.
-
:evillaugh:
-
Alice and the 5 kittens have been to the vets for vaccinations this morning. They all have terrible teeth thankfully kittens will have adult teeth to fall back on. Alice is not pregnant so she is being spayed and microchipped today, she has also tested negative Fiv/Felv, a huge relief. Vet says kittens are grossly undersized and says they are at least a month older than they look.
Amelia the pregnant one I thought looked about 6months old until I saw her teeth and then I decided 5years so perhaps she is a youngster after all;the mind boggles.
At least they are all safe and this morning no poop or piddle on the floor, hopefully the vet trip wont set them back.
-
Aw T that's fab news! Sorry about the teeth for the older lot, but so glad that they are all ok(ish). Just a little care at Piddle Towers :evillaugh: and they'll be settled on their paws.
-
Yes, at least they are all safe. How are Tansy and Tara coming along behaviourally?
-
thank goodness you are getting them all sorted, the mind boggles as to how an earth kittens can have bad teeth..poor mites.
-
I am sooooooooo proud of my little cupboard family this morning;piddle and poop all in the litter trays despite their ordeal at the vets yesterday; fingers crossed that their newly aquired toilet habits continue. Alice (mum) is recovering well from her spay.
-
That's great news!
Hopefully they'll keep it up ;)
-
Gla to hear they're getting better with their toiletting. Shame about their teeth though poor little mites.
-
More brilliant news! Just need some loving homes for them now.
C xx
-
One little accident on the floor this morning but what the heck, these little ones have made wonderful progress
-
Aww, glad they are making good progress and only one is pregnant.
-
Theres one little one still piddling on the floor and theres no way of me finding out which one. I will not be beaten on this and until I think of a solution will continue moping up
-
Trying to think how to solve this problem, 2 piddles and 1 poop still on pen floor, they have been vet checked, have 6 litter trays in their pen as well as Minimopsicals pads. Some trays are low some are higher they even have a covered one outside, going to go and buy a different litter to see if that helps; Whichever kitten or kittens it is they are only doing it during the night I wonder if they are stressed by the dark.
Everywhere is cleaned with virkon and simple solution used so its not smell related.
Anyone got any ideas ?
-
Ah the joys of the free-piddler! :Luv: A new litter texture may do the trick, but make sure you change over slowly or you may set off the others also (teaching my grandmother to suck eggs here I am sure). Could you leave a nightlight on? One of those solar powered cheapies should do the trick if it is light-based behaviour...
-
Am just going to try a softer litter in 2 of the trays nearest to where the piddler strikes; solar powered light sounds good will give it a go; right now this old granny is grateful for any new ideas
-
Teresa, did they have litter trays in the cupboard? If not, they're probably used to peeing on whatever surface they had in there. If it was carpet you can do the carpet in the tray trick. (Piece of carpet gradually being covered more and more with cat lit, eventually moving the carpet altogether.)
-
The cupboard was an understair one in kitchen, it was pitch black in there and the floor was concrete, they had no tray and piddle and poo stench was sickening. They really did come from a hell hole.
They were on carpet in the my pen at first but I had to throw it away, I have vinyl on the floor now and have puppy training pads under and in front of trays; I am beginning to feel that this is going to be my first failure unless I come up with something quick.
Have toyed with the idea of removing 2 kittens each night to try to find out who the culpit/s are but am really worried about adding to their stress.
-
oh good thinking JS! I had forgotten the poor wee things had such a dodgy start in life - too hard to imagine so my mind had blanked it out ........
-
Teresa, I think that's a good idea. Reason being, you need to find out which kittens are doing this so you can concentrate on rectifying the problem and you'll more than likely have them with you for longer - so they'll have to wait longer for their "forever homes." (If that makes sense!)
You'll do it. It just sometimes takes a bit longer! I have complete faith in you being able to help these little ones. :)
-
I think its still early days and dont think you will fail at all.
A night light sounds like a good idea cos if it only happens at night it sounds like its fear related.
My spoilt cats always have a night light ;D
-
Don't know if this is at all relevent in this case, but I heard a gem from a Battersea behaviourist on the telly last week - if puss is fowling in the wrong place, place a food bowl with some food it in on the spot. :sneaky:
-
I am sure you will not fail, Teresa. This little one is probably terrified of the dark - I think a nightlight is an excellent idea. How about some gentle classical music too?
-
Christine
Little one pooped on floor this afternoon- there goes my darkness theory. Classical Fm played all day long out in pens perhaps I will leave it on all night too.
Pinkbear
This piddle and poop does not have a fixed spot, it is done randomly.
-

that's not as silly as it sounds - no cat will poop where its food is kept. Mind you I am beginning to have visions of Theresa's floor covered wall to wall with different textured kitty litter, food bowls and night lights - where will they all sleep!!!???
-
I just caught up on this thread and the thought of the poor souls in the darkness makes me cringe.
I think that you will not fail in convincing them to use the tray, it will just take a little longer than expected, especially considered that they are older than you thought and they might be a bit set in their ways, poor babies.
My guess is that it's little Tansy (possibly Tara) that's still showing how much distress she had to go through by peeing around. Call me a witch if you like! I'm saying it's her because she seems the most shyest and so the most confused. Darling! Of course it could just be the picture...otherwise, cherchez the cheekiest.. :)
They definitely sleep in the outside pen because they missed the fresh air for so long, thinking of it the babies have prob never even felt it on their fur before :( >:( :( >:(
BLESS YOU for being there! Where would they be now if you hadn't been round? Still locked up... :'(
And may I just say: Oh, Ms Amelia, you caught my heart! :Luv: :Luv: with that serious face and round puzzled eyes.
Of course little Tara has hit a soft spot too....where does she get her dark eyeliner? ;D
Best wishes, and I really really think that you can't fail in teaching them good manners...you're almost there! In fact, it's amazing how quickly some tlc works
-
Hi Cleo
if your a witch so am I. My guess is Tammy and Tansie with Tansie No 1 culpit.
There are definately 2 culprits as the diameter and look of the poop is totally different. There are always 2 piddles too, maybe I need to call in Sherlock Holmes
-
no cat will poop where its food is kept
No they will just go further up, its as much use as tin foil
-

Unless it's Lirael, who doesn't mind tin foil in the slightest.
-
They currently have 6 litter trays; I have been and bought an extra 4 and some different litter to try; not had much luck on solar lights though as I need something really stable the only possibility was a giant snail one and I decided that might put the fear of God into them so left it on the shelf.
Sorry I have no intention of putting food near the toilet area I dont want to risk illness these little ones have been through enough already so the least I can do is work that bit harder for them. :)
-
the only possibility was a giant snail one and I decided that might put the fear of God into them so left it on the shelf.
I understand completely - giant snails!!?? what will they think of next!! yech
-
Added 4 extra trays this morning and used paper litter in them, woodbased in the others- Big mistake kittens think paper litter grey snow and have had great fun throwing it everywhere
Tansie and Tammy have been seperated as I am convinced they are the phantom piddler and pooper, I am taking them to the vet at 11.20 just incase something was overlooked on their last visit.
This has to be sorted before I get anymore crazy than I already am :)
-
...the phantom piddler and pooper
Sorry T I had to giggle at that, reminds me of The Phantom Rasberry Blower of Old London Town ...... :evillaugh:
Good luck at the vets, and I hope you can sort out the piddle and poop problem soon, it can't be easy
-
Good luck!
-
Andy has gone over every little bit of them and his only concern is the possibility of kidney damage due to their previous conditions. Got to try and get some urine samples as a starting point pity he didnt want poop ones the phantom pooper did it all in my car
I have kept Tansie and Tammy separated from the others for now.
Worked out Alice and her 5 kittens are going through 20litres of litter and 6 puppy pads a day.
-
Worked out Alice and her 5 kittens are going through 20litres of litter and 6 puppy pads a day.
OMG!! When is Amelia due to have all her kittens?
Am glad to hear that they seem ok and I've got my fingers crossed that there isn't any kidney damage. Give them all a cuddle from me.
-
Very very soon Lottie
-
The phantom piddle and poopers have been returned to the Big Mummy house this morning after serving a 48 hour jail sentence in a small pen loaded with litter trays. The first day they managed to piddle in water/food bowl the only remaining space without litter, vast improvement was made yesterday and so last night I removed one tray to provide bedding for them;to my delight all piddle and poop in litter trays this morning. Normally I would wait a day or too longer to place them back in a normal pen but I was anxious for them to returned to their mum and siblings and of course space is at a premium. They have been told in no uncertain terms that they will be returned to jail should any stray poop or piddle be found. :)
Just to add Alice welcomed them back by washing them all over while their siblings tried to play with them, such a wonderful sight I had more than one tear in my eye.
-
Hurray, sounds like progress. :) Well done, Teresa.
-
well done, it sounds like its going well for you ;D
-
Fingers crossed for them.
-
So far no stray piddle or poop will see what the morning brings :)
-
Teresa, I have a sense that these little mites are on their way now :wow:
Thank goodness they came to you!
:Luv:
xC
PS I hope they charm the **** out of your visitors tomorrow ;D
-
Really busy today but had to report
All piddle in tray
1 poop just at side of tray so giving phantom piddle and poopers the benefit of the doubt and assuming the one poop was a misguided aim
They are still on threat of Jail if offences recur
-
:cheer: :cheer: :cheer: what a relief!!
-
The phantom piddle/poopers are now litter trained; I am so proud of them. :)
To anyone suffering with a dirty cat Dont Give UP theres a way around everything, you just have to smile through the puddles.
-
Wonderful news T.
-
Brilliant, well done ;D
-
Ah ha! See knew you could do it! ;D
And well done to the little ones for getting the hang of the situation. :)
-
Good news ;D
An important step on their road to full recovery, I'm sure
-
I had a little word with Amelia last night as I was rather concerned that she looked as if she had swallowed a football; poor girl so tiny in herself and swollen with babies she has been uncomfortable for quite some time. Amelia told me she preferred August babies and at 9.20 am I watched her first little one come into the world; I have left her to listen to Classical Fm and continue her labour now that I know she is ok.
New life is such a precious and wonderful thing.
Will update later.
-
Aw T that's fantastic. Good luck little one!!!!
-
Good luck, Amelia. :)
I'm sure she'll be fine with you about, Teresa.
-
Good luck Amelia!
-
Aw, good luck Amelia :Luv:
-
Oh Good Luck Amelia! :Luv:
Funny enough after seeing Amelia on Sunday Jon said to me "she'll have them babes on Wednesday i reckon". Spooky.... :-:
-
Amelia and I are having a very harrowing morning; contractions stopped after trying very hard for 2nd kitten;just returned from vets shes had an injection to help with contractions and I have to give her another just before 1pm.
"2nd kitten born literally 10 minutes ago in my car, just got mum plus 2 in pen in time for her to attend to afterbirth.
More updates as and when.
Modified to say, Amelias next injection is just before 2pm,not 1pm, I must be harassed
-
Good luck Teresa, she couldn't ask for a better midwife
-
:Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
Good luck, littel Amelia! :blow kiss:
-
Just getting the injection and heard a scream, Amelia has just had kitten No 3, spoken to vet and he says I can leave the injection till 3.30ish now and hopefully she may have finished by then. Poor little Amelia, thank God we got her out of that hell hole.
-
Aw, come on little one, keep going :Luv:
-
Poor little Amelia, thank God we got her out of that hell hole.
Yes indeed, poor little mite. Come on Amelia, you can do it
-
I have just helped No 4 into the world, Amelia and I both exhausted and I need a good cry
-
Is Amelia one of the cats from the cupboard? Hope it's getting easier for her. (And you.)
-

-
Well its 2 hours since I gave Amelia the injection and she is certainly relaxed now with 4 little ones happily suckling on her. I have coped with some difficult labours over the years and can honestly say Amelias has been one of the worst.
Let me proudly show you Amelia and her beautiful babies :Luv:
-
oh i missed all this, they and she is gorgeous T :Luv:
The thought of what would have happened had she still be there doesnt bare thinking about.
-
oh what a clever girl :Luv: and doesn't she look so much better than when you first saw her! She does you credit T and well done amelia
-
Glad her and the babies are okay.
They are just so adorable.
-
Conratulations Amelia and well done Teresa
It makes me shudder to think that had it not been for you she would have had those poor babies in a dark stenchy cupboard.
-
Well done to Amelia - and Teresa ;D
What a beautiful little family
:Luv:
-
Oh, aren't they adorable!! :Luv: :Luv:
Very many congrats to Amelia and a big glass of gin to Aunty Teresa.... :cheer: :cheer: :drink:

Pearl sends a purr to Amelia and Auntie T. ;D
-
Aww so glad Amelia is ok and the babes are beautiful :Luv:
Well done to you T as well, the part in the car must have been particularly harrasing
Hope you've got your feet up and taking a well deserved rest
-
Dont know how i missed this thread !! (prob coz theres sooooo many to read :evillaugh:)
I am totally dumb struck reading about these cats and kittens - poor little mites !
Thank God they have now all found you - T you are a Saint -
Which Mummy cat is it that the people want back ?
Could you not talk them into giving her up ?
-
She is gorgeous Teresa. I can't imagine how or if she would have had them in that cupboard. Bet you are proud of your new grandfurkids :evillaugh:
BTW - she looks so sleek and relaxed you would never believe what she had been through.
-
I am a believer in white lies if they are for good. In this case, I would tell them she did not surive birthing. I would also attempt to make them feel bad by saying it was due to poor nutrition and treatment in the months leading up. Thats what I think so there :-:
-
Mark i was going to suggest the same thing funny enough !
Do you think you could get away with that T ?
-
I think that's a smart suggestion... But even if you can't do that, Teresa, I'd certainly present them with a bill for all the vets fees and your time, payable before kitty goes back. :)
-
I second pinkbears suggestion, money will make them think again.
just my 2 cents worth :)
-
Glad she was with you throughout that, the alternative doesn't bear thinking about.
-
Congratulations and well done Teresa and Amelia
I had visions of Buster standing by with a towel and hot water :evillaugh:
-
T - dont suppose they signed the cats over to you did they ?
-
Sorry bit behind with things,None of these cats are going back there, I left the woman with the female that she refused to part with and 1 Tom. I neutered both for her, cleaned out utility room for cats and helped her fill cupboard with junk to render it useless, also left food and am keeping close watch- its the best I can do,not ideal but if when I visit with food things are going downhill I will snatch the 2 remaining cats.
Amelia and her 4 babies are an absolute delight and all doing well. :)
-
Well done to Teresa and Amelia - what a lovely little family.
-
Tasha and Tansie have been reserved to go in 2 weeks;I`m thrilled
-
Fab news.....I had the pleasure of meeting these gorgeous babes and I have to admit, I did cry a few tears for them :shify:
-
Tasha and Tansie have been reserved to go in 2 weeks;I`m thrilled

-
Just been out looking at Amelia and her babies, they look so wonderful and content;I stood stroking Amelia with tears streaming down my face;this little mum has only got a cat pen but she thinks she is in paradise.Tried to sex the babies but without glasses and teary eyed it was difficult but looks like she has a perfect litter of 2 girls and 2 boys; gosh my naming committee are letting me down lately. :)
-
Thats so sweet Teresa :Luv:
-
Oops naming committee letting you down T... 4 babies:

How about as they are so gorgeous we give them designer names:

-
Ooh! Ooh! Names...? I can do names! :wow:

How about some City Insipirations....................
Sofija
Verona
Odessa ?????
I knew you would have to pipe in soon Linda. :evillaugh:
PS.. I love your names.. ;)
-
I think there is a Pushkin there somewhere. And a Raffles...

2 of Angelicas siblings need names so will use Eugenie and Pushkin as the 4th kitten already named Minibuster.
Will take cowardly way out and pass all other suggestions onto my chief name decider Claire    But think maybe Mr T should be used for a big bruiser cat,so perhaps we do need 2 girls and 2 boys names.
-
Robert is a great name :)
-
Robert is a great name :)
I wonder why you think that
Mr T should deffo be reserved for a huge black tom cat who wears a lot of gold
-
One of my friends has a cat called Amadeus - a longhaired tabby lad, and another has a cat called Littleman Raffles - a longhaired white... ;)
-
How about Marishka for one of the girls? If I was spelling it in Czech it would be Mariska of course ;D and Luchia (Lucia) for the other.

Naming committe will be back in action shortly....Garcia came in with a large gash on his side on sunday night and so spent yesterday in the vets being knocked out and stitched up. They also found a dodgy tooth so he had that out too while he was under. 5 stiches later, he was home last night, but has been very restless. Not been on the forum much as been worrying about him.
Will promise to kick the committee into action later today!!

Think I have 2 names I`d like to put forawrd for consideration
Hiawatha and Minnehaha

-
What about Menue? I have no idea where it's from, I just think it's sweet. :)
-
OO T I think those names are fab. I looooove Haiwatha!
-
Ok - the naming committee is now in session.
Formal votes have been cast and I can reveal the results from the swedish jury are as follows.....
Amelias kittens will hereby be called........
Toby
Lucia
Sofia
Struggling for a boys name that matches with these...can I open it up to the danish jury for their suggestions/votes?
P.S Ruth - vet isn't sure what happened to Garcia - thinks that he either fell on something or pushed up against something sharp. My big man is much more himself today and DESPERATE to get out, but he has no chance until his stiches are sorted. He has resisted the litter tray for 24 hours, but finally gave in at tea time and made some room for his dinner :evillaugh:
-
Perfect news Claire. Pleased he's ok.
Bless him !! :Luv:
-
Just dont anyone choose

-

-
I have no idea where those colours came from, expected black/white
-
Isn't Amelia's beauty shining now? The kittens look great too (what we can see of them :))
-
Oh, she's gorgeous bless her, and so are her kits! ;D
Looks like you got blue and blue smoke there as well... :-:
-
They are great and love the colors ;D
-
The blue/grey means one of the parents was carrying the dilute gene. but only one cos there seems to be black in some of them too, so they can't both have carried it. We had a white and black mum in last year who produced tortie kittens, dilute torties and can't remember the other colours!!
-
The picture does not show the colour properly, they are not grey but silver
-

You don't get silver as a self colour, T - well not as far as I know. In that case hey are most certainly smokes, shaded or tipped instead - the way to tell is to part the fur and look at the colour of the hair close to the skin.
If there is white on the lower part of the hair shaft, then these cats carry the genes for smoke, shading or tipping. Both are alleles of the same basic gene. A smoke has only a small amount of white on the hair, whereas a tipped has about 3/4 of the hair white and a shaded is somewhere in between the two.
The result of this gene (I think it's correct designation is I) is to give the cats a metallic-type appearance.

And heres a couple of Amelia and babies

And heres a couple of Amelia and babies
T - little white one at the back.... not sure which one that is, but me is in love...xx
-
Ruth I`m not sure who any of them are as naming committee didnt finish names properly, but the one you like was the one who was born in my car.
-
Muffin T.. that has to be Muffin xx
-
Your right Ruth just looked back
Raffles
Toby
Sofia
And Muffin :Luv: :Luv: :Luv:
-
Aunty R's Muffin..that can be his name... x
-
Teresa, the one on the right looks like a shaded and the one second from left looks like a smoke.
That's pretty rare in non-pedigrees, there has to be a ped in the mix somewhere, either Persian or BSH I'd imagine as they're the commonest breeds to carry that particular gene.
I believe it's a recessive, which would figure as these little ones are probably inbred due to the circumstances in which these poor cats were found. Either way, they're stunning T! ;D More pics pleeeeeeeeeeeease! ;D
-
They are all so adorable :Luv: :Luv:
I love the wee one being squashed in the middle :evillaugh: :Luv: :Luv:
-
The first two lucky kittens Tasha and Tansie have just gone to their new home.

Heres the last Amelia and baby pics, age 3+ weeks

What gorgeous little munchkins - they appear to be a source of considerable concern to Amelia - what is she whispering into that kittens ear I wonder?? :Luv:
-
She was washing the kitten and at same time saying " Get away from the mad human with the camera"
-
Is there anything more gorgeous than the blue of a kitten's eyes? :Luv:
T I'm not allowed to visit. Even for the stories I need. I will not visit. If I do the cat carrier will be in the back of the car waiting for little ickle babies and mum to get in there.
They are fabulous! Scrummy yummy babies.

-
I love that picture and thats great news ;D

:cheer: They are looking really cheeky bless, well done TP
-
Its pictures like that that spur you on to do a little more; when I look back to seeing them all emerge from that blackened cupboard and all the piddle poop everywhere and I see them as they are now I feel honoured to have been able to make that difference.
-
Have just rehomed Tammy and Tara the last 2 of the original cupboard kittens, that just leaves Amelia and her 4 which were born here.
-

Just imagine how those cats feel, from neglect, filth and fear to a life of love and luxury in a few weeks, all thanks to you.
-
That is wonderful news T, it is wonderful to hear that they have had a wonderful life all thanks to you.
-
I was having a quiet moment at work yesterday and have only just read the whole thread - you really are amazing T, I'm so glad you saved them from such a cruel existance and I'm glad them some have forever homes. I am always interested in cases like this, is it ignorance or cruelty that leads to these situations?
-
Dawn I often think that some of what we define as cruelty is neglect through ignorance; these poor cats were treated so cruelly yet the woman who cared for her retarded adult son had no idea; on reflection I think she was deeply depressed and shutting them in that foul place was her only way of coping. I am not defending her but perhaps a better system of education and a support network for people like her may have prevented this misery.
I will add that on the day I rescued this lovely family of cats I really wanted to kill the woman and felt she was so cruel; a few days of being in her shoes coping with the piddle and poop made me think differently. I guess its a case of "There go I but for the grace of God"
-
And finally
Oliver and Toby the last reminders of those wonderful cupboard cats have left for their new home this evening :)
Somehow I think we may be hearing more from them :)
-
:cheer: What wonderful closure T. x
-
Fabulous news :Luv:
-
great news T and what a saga - it must be one of the most wonderful rewards for what you do :)
