What is the best cat litter you have ever tried and why, I have tried a few and still not very happy with the ones we have tried :(
-
Any wood based pellet litter - one used to be called Beauticat...
-
Crystal Clear Litter Pearls, Bob Martin Silica litter or World's Best Cat Litter
-
currently using worlds best for my cats as Penguin doesn't like to cover up anything so the silica wouldn't work with him. It does seem to migrate everywhere but at least it doesn't hurt when you step on it.
non clumping stuff for the fostering kittens.
-
Sophisticat choice from tesco, golden grey from zooplus or worlds best. I really hate that pink stuff and also not so keen on wood pellets.
-
The silica ones we tried didn't last nearly as long as they said it would.
The wood based one I am using now seems to make a lot of mess everywhere (sawdust) but it is good at absorbing the wee's. Do you remove the wet parts from the wood based one straight away.As not sure how long I should wait, on the instructions I have it says change weekly but have read that some people do it every couple of days.
-
With the silica you really need to stir it round thoroughly a few times a day.
It's up to you how often you change it out completely. You need to remove wees and poos as soon as you can (lots of cats won't use a tray if it's dirty) With wood based litter I'd prob empty it out and disinfect every 3 days or so but I know other people do it every morning.
WBCL you only need to empty the litter completely and put new in every 4 weeks or so
-
I do get rid of the poo's as soon as possible.
Just that when the wood pellets change to sawdust I can't smell the scent of wee which I could with the other litter I have tried :-[
-
Used to like Sophisticat Pink, but currently using Morrisons own brand antibacterial litter, which is semi-clumping for wees, and I think is the best I've tried in a long while.

Same here. Not tried the zoopluls stuff yet but I use sophistiacat choice, sainsburys ultra clumping or catsan ultra clumping. all clay clumping litters. I'm pretty happy with them although I do intend to try something like worlds best sometime. I dont' think I'd consider using anything non clumping as it's so convenient to just scoop out the clumps (when Jaffa doesn't wee against the side of the tray! >:( ) and just wash the tray once a week and refill as needed. I don't like the idea of using anything where you can't remove all the soiled litter a couple of times a day.

cant stand the wood pellets, im forever hoovering up the trail....
but i do love wilkinsons city cat pearl stuff tis amazing and i think they have an offer on of 2 bags for £4? i could be wrong it might even be cheaper than that!
but it doesnt trail and it covers smells nicely too! i strongly reccomend.
its EXACTLY the same as the bob martin stuff except its alot cheaper
-
I use a good quality wood pellet one and i have no trial..............they scatter them if they dig like Misa but he only uses it in winter ;D

The brand I had said to disturb it as little as possible.

I agree it does not last nearly as long as they say, after 10 days I most certainly can smell the urine and that is only by being used by 1 cat, but I do like the almost freeze dried poo idea.
We usually use Beauticat. WBCL and if all else fails and a cat does not seem to like litter Danish Pink.

Cody uses WBCL..However once this bag finishes he will be uses the wood pellets as this is what my big boys use and cody had it for a week when my wbcl ran out and he was fine with it. I was very impressed with the odour control which i'd say is as good as wbcl. The thing with wb is you have it really deep and as it is superb clumping you remove the clumps as and when, however as the tray gets less deep (getting towards the time you empty it all out and clean properly) i think it starts to very slightly smell..not too bad and it is really just since cody has been an adult i've noticed this.
Perhaps because you have to empty and clean the whole tray more often with the pellets this doesnt happen but its much cheaper and you can afford to waste some by chucking out,
I suppose cost is why i am changing but i would still highly recommend the wbcl as it really is good and fantastic clumping which i miss with the pellets but as i say you can use it sparingly as it expands into sawdust and emtpy the tray every day for cleaning.

Yes I have noticed this as well (especially since madam got home) and it's the only thing I don't like about it especially in the summer when the house gets really hot.

I use chick crumbs - £5.89 for 20kg sack, from my local pet shop. I've tried loads of other litters too, and liked WB, but too expensive, (for 6 trays indoors, and 2 in garage!) - then found chick crumbs which work exactly the same as WB.
-

Slightly off topic but theres apparently a spray in PAH that freezes poo into a lump so you can lift it easier. Great for diarrhoea me thinks

:thanks: guys for all your replies.
I will decide which one I am going to stick with when the wood based one I have runs out

Hi there,
On the same thread, which litter is best for clumping and removing smells etc but is not dusty? I really notice the dust (currently using Cats best) on the floor (laminate) and even work sufaces-it gets everywhere.
What about the white pearl type litters?? Are they dusty?
Thanks
-
I dont think worlds best cat litter (if thats the brand you are using) is that dusty, Do you use a open or hooded tray ?

Yes, I used Cats Best once upon a time - complete nightmare for dust tracking! Thats why I changed to WB, and then the cheaper version of WB, the chick crumbs. Neither WB or chick crumbs track anywhere near like Cats Best does. Its a shame because Cats Best is a good clumping litter, but couldnt deal with the dust tracking.
-
We are using inovative cat littler at the moment and find it brilliant - its similar to sillica litter, no smell and no tracking
-
