Title: Capsule sizes
Post by: Millys Mum on July 01, 2007, 21:03:08 PM
I want to buy some empty capsules for putting pills in and i cant remember how to size them!
Does anybody know the rules, they are graded 0, 1 etc

Iv asked several chemists if they stock them and they were very unhelpful  >:(

MM, why do you need capsules?

My cats have metronidazole which im informed tastes horrible and makes them foam at mouth so i wanted to put their quarter tablet inside a capsule so they could swallow it nicely  ;D at the moment im covering them in abit of malt paste and sqishing inside half a deffurem but its rather fiddly and time consuming!

Ahh...!

This, I think was my first ever thread.

I have seen found a better method for getting pills into this Webbox stuff. Break a piece off. Take a knife and make a slit in one end. Insert the pill, squeeze the sides together, then offer the stick of Webbox with the pill enclosed end first.

It may not be ideal giving this Webbox stuff all the time, but compared to the trauma of most other methods, and the effects of not having his meds at all, it's a price I pay...  ;)

I find they prefer ham capsules  :evillaugh:

I have been struggling with clapton over the last few days - wasted 3 pills on saturday - bought some ham and tablet was gone in seconds. The annoying thing is Fortekor is supposed to be palatable but if he gets one sniff, he won't touch the food. They melt really quickly as well which makes it worse. If they were coated in something with no taste/smell, it would be so much easier. I don't want to buy ham every other day as I don't want to keep eating it myself (it always says use within 2 days) I have found small "2 sandwich portion" packs in Tesco for 60p - its mattesons so I am going to start using that and throw the rest away as its cheaper than wasting tablets.

I don't envy you, Mark.  :scared: Your Clapton's got the look of a puss for whom nothing but perfection is acceptable. I can almost see him with a little lace bib on looking looking offended...  :Luv:

Could you buy some paracetamol capsules and give them a good wash out?

Id rather not risk it CC, to wash throughly would make them melt  :evillaugh:

Its rather annoying i forget things, i used to fill and weigh capsules so i should know.

Ham is no good for these two when they dont have runny bums so i think id be shooting myself in the foot if i use that!

Might be worth dropping a line to these people. If they want to sell you stuff, I'm sure they can tell you which size you're likely to need.  ;)

Thanks Pinky  ;D

I found these http://www.capsuline.co.uk/index.php/cPath/444_509_512_521 (http://www.capsuline.co.uk/index.php/cPath/444_509_512_521) chicken flavour, mmmmm! £10.43 for a 1000 (size 3). I was going to get 100 plain ones (size 0) for £14 so much cheaper and a better size.

Edit:  :( a US company so shipping is high, i never feel safe ordering from overseas. Back to drawing board.

Those prices are crazy as you can get 100 capsules of slippery elm and use the capsules for about £5 - clapton will eat the contents straight on his food.

PB, chemists in the states compound things where as in the uk our pharmacies dont have to. Thats why i cant get hold of them easy here. I was employed in a hospital and we used to squash things down and send them back out, why cant they do it!

Mark, im looking for size 3 if you have spotted any  ;D

Joking apart, I think it's generally accepted that America a much more liberal view about the supply of drugs. Over here, you'll be met with concern because it's possible you could be manufacturing, or altering drugs for resale - either prescription or 'recreational'.

Obviously there has been quite a growth in homeopathic and organic needs for empty capsules... but for a private individual to be making enquiries is going to raise eyebrows in the high street Chemist.

I just went to the herbalist across the road. She only has one size - size 0 - they are huge, £1.50 for 100. She said most herbalists should sell them.
