Title: Jumpy is 'off colour'
Post by: Pinkbear (Julie) on July 01, 2007, 20:27:36 PM
Hi, all.

I don't think we've got any vets here, but I gather we have the odd nurse and some very experienced peeps, so here's a potted history.

The Jumpster has Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy. He's on three tabs of Hypercard and half a tab of Frusecare per day. This was diagnosed a month ago. He had a cough before the diagnosis which went as soon as treatment started - I'm told the cough was fluid on his lungs and the Frusecare seemed to have taken care of that.

He's been doing fine. Back to his usual self.

Just this last few hours, he's taken himself into the bathroom. Something he doesn't usually do. He's curled himself up in a chair - a chair he's never used before - and he's quitely napping. When I touch him he seems responsive enough and I even got some purring and an invitation to tickle his chin.... but his usually v. pink nose looks a little greyer than usual, as does the area round his eyes. He just seems very quiet. Not suffering, or in any pain. Just quiet.

I'm gonna call the vet first thing, but I wandered whether the general paleness might be a sign his heart isn't working properly. Or do cats with this condition have episodes like this from time to time?

Any thoughts?

The little b****r had better be! He just peed on the bathroom rug and I didn't even tell him off!  >:( :evillaugh: (He's always doing that - it's his way of going  :P to me)

He's still quiet. So I'm just gonna keep an eye...

:shoosh:

Actually after spending the previous six hours looking like he was about to pop his paws in the air, the little horror gave me the slip and just waltzed in pleased as punch with a huge dog rat is his mouth!  :no no:

Why is it that they have the ability to worry you senseless, then just get better with impunity and just not care....?  I've got a thumping headache now!  >:(

Still, a word with the vet is certainly called for....  8)

Just a thought: is he catching rats which have been poisoned?

I would have a word with the vet - bathrooms seem to be a favourite place for cats feeling off colour.

It's unlikely. We're smack in the middle of a conservation area, and right next door to a nature reserve. We're all grade 2 listed. Anyone wanting to put out poison has to get it done by the pest controll people. And any tradesmen working within the 'town walls' needs special permission, etc., etc... You can't break wind round here without the Town Clerk saying you can  :evillaugh:

UPDATE

After having a chat with the vet, his view is that Jumpy may have had a few palpitations causing him to feel grotty. He said that seeing as he appears to be back to normal, best maintain a watch senario. If it happens again, call back....  :innocent:

Tell him to stop putting his nose in your coffee!

Glad he's over the crisis and hope he continues to be well.  ;D
