Charlie's just walked into the room with his right eye closed, it looks a bit swollen and he won't open it really.
I've opened it myself, and it doesn't look damaged.
Can someone tell me if they have any knowledge on anything like this? I'm so worried :'(
-
Does the eye look "gunky" at all. He may have a bit of conjuctivitis. I would keep an eye on him and it necessary bathe it with warm water and a clean piece of cotton wool.
If it still looks swollen in the morning a trip to Mr Vet might be in order.
-
Not gunky Sam. He's rubbing at it a lot though.
I just phoned animal a&e - they were asking for £85 for the consultation :tired:
He's opening it better now, it looks really red though.
-
If he's not in any discomfort I would hang on until the morning at get him the vets first thing.
Poor little lad ... he may have just got a hair in it and been rubbing it.
-
Uh this is breaking my heart, my poor wee boys just cuddling up beside me, like he knows he's not well :'(
Everytime I look at him I could cry because of the wee closed eye :(
-
Poor thing, I hope it is just a foreign body that has gone now. I shall look out for one of the experts on here and draw their attention to this if they do not find it.
-
Thanks Christine, I keep checking on to see if anyones online.
The emergency vet said to wash with salt water which I've done, it's still swollen and he can't keep it open.
I'll take a picture when he wakes up. I'm praying that it's nothing :(
-
I would give the emergency vet another ring about him - is it feasible to take him there today? £85 is a lot, but I am sure they would be able to give you something for him and put your mind at rest too.
-
Poor Charlie, hope it's nothing serious - he may have scratched it play fighting or something. The boys each send him a healing head kiss
-
Christine - Not really, I can't really afford the fees today, it would be £85 for the initial consultation and then more on top of that :(
I will take him if it gets any worse, I'm just really trying to hold off till the morning just now :(
He's still sleeping just now..
Thanks Helen xx

When I took Kocka to the emergency vet they invoiced me for the money and i claimed it from the insurance.
Hope he is gonna be OK
-
Hopefully he just knocked it while playing, keep up with the bathing ;D
-
He seems a lot better. About 5oclock I bathed it again, and it got so much better, he is opening it up a lot better ;D
It's still not normal but such a difference from earlier. My Mum was over too and said she thinks it looks like he's maybe got something in it (hair etc.)
I lay on the bed with him earlier, facing him and crying, he kept putting his wee paws on my eyes
He's honestly the sweetest little cat I have ever known :Luv:
He's been eating fine and he's chasing Missy about like a nutter at the moment so hopefully it'll be ok. If it's not gone by Tuesday I'll assume it's an infection and go for antibi's or drops etc.
Thanks for your help guys, don't know what I'd do without this forum at times
-
It doesn't seem much better from yesterday but he's still happy, eating and playing.
I need to go to my placement but I've just bathed it with salt/water again :(
-
It won't look good in the morning as he has had it closed all night (well, most of the night), but you are doing the right thing. Check it when you get home and if no better, see the vet.
-
Max did something similar a few months ago, but he also had what looked like a burst blood vessell when his eye did open again, so he was down the vets the next day  Never did get to the bottom of it, but eye drops helped.
I would keep bathing with water for the time being, and if it still looks sore, maybe a trip to the vet later today might be in order as some drops may be required.
Keep us posted.

It's so much better :Luv:
It looks as if it's back to normal. Must have just been a hair or something?
I have to admit though, I was absolutely terrified yesterday :(
-
That is a relief. It does sound as if he had something in it which may have left it irritated for a while.
Phew!
:Luv:
-
Glad its back to normal now ;D
-
Glad that Charlie's eye is much better now
Sending him love and cuddles for being such a brave wee boy xxx
-
Good news about Charlie's eye ;D I hope he has been suitably plied with treats while he was milking it :evillaugh:
-
He milked it alright Helen, I lay on bed with him cuddling him to my chest while he sucked my finger for an hour on Sunday!
(Finger was well wrinkly after that)
