I did a search on the woman's name (Zhang Dan) and found this. I will buy some items from the Animal Asia shop as giving them money is probably the best way to help the cats in China.

Thats wonderful and shows that some do care ;D

There are some fundraisers if anyone lives near any of these, bear them in mind. You can either support cats & dogs or bears

123,000 copies of a film against cat & dog eating distributed in China
Sorry but this is better than I expected. Chinese Star Richie Jen is involved in this project

I'm a bit confused as I ordered a t-shirt for $15.00 and I wasn't charged delivery. I would assume it would cost a fair bit to ship from HK? - I don't want a charity to be out of pocket when ordering from them is supposed to help.
Anyway, I also set up a monthly standing order.

Thanks for the link, Mark. I will be supporting them. Raising money in animal-unfriendly countries is daunting and pretty impossible.
I did see that HK residents recently said that they prefer their pets to their OHs ( :shify: oops) but the problem on mainland China is really difficult.
I see the Highgate fundraiser for this Chinese group is sold out so hopefully they will be getting lots of north london cash.

This looks like a really excellent cause. I wonder if it is worth Tan checking it out and adding the website to our links page?
-
Hope so. They are doing so much good ;D
I was surprised how easy it was to start a standing order - you can donate from $10 a month which only works out to £1.50 a week but all helps. I understand not everyone can help financially but there are other ways like spreading awareness.

Just bumping up as this is so important and about rescue ;D

What a wonderful find Mark. I own two chow chows (dogs) who originate from China and they use them over there for food and fighting :(
So its extra nice to find people who care about animals over there.
:thanks:

Excellent info Mark ... and nice to be able to redress the balance. So many times we are posting about the "nasties" going on in China it's nice to be able to show the good that some people are doing.
I don't want to hijack your thread but I just wanted to add a link to another wonderful organsiation who are working tirelessly to help animals in war torn Lebanon http://animals.beirut.com/viewNew.php?ID=233. Please take a look and if anyone can help with a small donation I know it would be very grateful received.

Not Hijacking the thread Sam ;D
Anything that helps kitties has to be good.

I got this email today. The lady that runs te UK side of things was on radio 4 yesterday and is doing a roadshow around the UK. I haven't had a chance to listen to it yet but for anyone who is interested in Animal Asia'a work,
You can listen to the show anytime on the internet by visiting:
http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio4/factual/midweek.shtml
Then click on "Listen to the latest edition".
Edit, I listened to the intro and it sounds like they are only going to talk about the bears :( - I know they are important but what about the cats & dogs? :'(
