Poor man dropped dead very early this morning,he lived alone apart from his 2 cats who were with him when he died. His relatives apparently have made good use of the day going through his bits and pieces.They left the house around 8pm after throwing the cats out in the street and telling the neighbour they were no longer wanted so to arrange for a rescue to collect them or let them roam the streets.
The poor cats looking like drowned rats are now unhappily with me,one is so terrified she let rip at me and is growling and hissing for England, the second poor thing is glad of a cuddle but sitting looking so dejected as evidently this is the second time he has lost a human.
Hope poor cats owner haunts his relatives for a very long time, not like me to get angry and upset but these two have just upset me so much

That is terrible and you are quite rightly very angry. Poor cats must wonder what they did to deserve this and also must hate humans but I am sure that with you they will see a different side, bet they loved their owner though. :'(

Awww, Teresa. That's appalling behaviour. Please pass on huge cuddles to the one that will allow it and also to the other when they're comfortable enough to get fuss.
How old are they both would you say?

Some people are sick little :censored: Well I really hope they do get haunted for the rest of their days and made to suffer in the process :censored: :censored: :censored: Similar happened with the poor old ginger boy last week, his owner has been in hospital for about 8 months, a relative was meant to be looking after her cat and basically dumped it outside and fed him every few days :censored: :censored: I got a phone call off one of the other neighbours as he was poorly and sadly he had to be pts that night and the laugh of it was, the relative who was meant to be looking after him was so upset that he'd been put down :censored: :censored: :censored:
I'm sure with some tlc, they'll come round T......give them a big cuddle for me, xxxxx

Think the laid back one is 8-10years, and the terrified one is a bit younger , dont even know what sex the older one is as longhaired and cant see through tears, the younger one is shorthaired tabby.

The neighbour who phoned me asked the relatives to leave an old piece of dead owners clothing for cats to sleep on, she was refused.

Teresa, well done for taking them in. (I would assume a small amount of juggling went on to fit them in!) Poor old things. It'd be wonderful if people realised that an animal isn't a disposable commodity.

Wouldn't it be a turnaround if the old man has left the money to whoever looks after the cats - I bet they would be begging for them back then.

Oh T. This makes me so sad and so very very angry. The poor babies. Expendable. I hope you're right Mark. I hope the old man knew what his relatives were like and well and truly :censored: their hopes of getting anything!
The blessing and silver lining is that they have you now Teresa. You are their saviour and you know it. I bet they are being given the 5 star treatment all your babies get as we speak.
Once you have some photos if you struggle with names give me a shout :). Can't wait to see them.
I hope they aren't with you for long, that a loving forever home takes them in.

Aww, the poor babies, how terrifying for them both. I am glad they are safe and sound now, and hope that they recover from this quickly, and can find a wonderful forever home.

They have names already Tiggy and Sox.
Sox the longhaired one is still frightened but has eaten a little and enjoyed a stroke.
Tiggy is terrified and angry enough to seriously injure anyone that goes near, she is still sat in her carrier and refuses to move;she will not let me near and I am not going to manhandle her to get her out it will make her worse poor love. She hasn`t eaten and it only takes one kind word to get her ears flat on her head and be hissed and growled at,she is going to take a long time.
Have had to put them in seperate pens for the time being as Tiggy was even lashing out at Sox.

I'm not sure if that would apply (though it should), as they never accepted resposibilty for the cats. It would be worth a try though.

You could possibly build an argument based on the fact that they took (responsibility for) the rest of his possessions. Cats are, in the eyes of the law, possessions and are therefore the responsibility of the beneficiaries of the estate ....hmmmmmm

Think my time would be spent more wisely in caring for the cats , have long since given up on getting help from certain organisations.
Sox has enjoyed a much needed groom and is quite relaxed now; he is very thin under all the fur will probably get him checked over on Monday.
Tiggy left the carrier briefly to use her tray but then returned to it; despite spending lots of time with her today she is worse than ever; she refused food so I bought a cooked chicken and dropped a whole breast into the carrier;did it earn me any brownie points? No she ate it and had another go at me. To quote Christine " This is going to be a long haul flight"
The main thing is that they are safe and being cared for.

Absolutely. She has had a lot to cope with and will take a while. Lots of talking at her and soothing thoughts sent her way. Poor wee thing. :scared:

Sox looks gorgeous and suspect Tiggy is too, I am so pleased they are with you and they are maybe also grieving for their owner as well as being hurt by what happened to them after. One min ute they have a home and next minute strangers chuck em out of their home in the rain >:( >:( >:( >:(

Tiggy and Sox are beautiful and the poor wee things must be so frightened and confused bless their wee paws.
Thank goodness they are with you at Pawsinn getting 24/7 love and attention, even although poor wee Tiggy doesn't realise it at the moment.
I have seen first hand the wonderful way you have turned a terrified, come-near-me-and-I'll-take-your-hand-off furbabes into a loving cuddlebums. With lots of your unconditional love and understanding I am sure, in time, Tiggy will realise the not all humans are evil and some can be trusted.

Think we may have travelled the first inch of a thousand mile journey; Tiggy has reluctantly left the cat carrier with a little gentle persuasion; she has eaten her chicken and dry food during the night and used her tray; urine smells very strong so will be keeping watchful eye over weekend. She doesn`t want to go in her bed yet and is lying on the pen floor and still hissing and growling at us but at least her ears stay upright now,you can see the misery in her eyes poor love.
Sox on the other hand thinks the service is wonderful,his third eyelids are showing and I suspect he is not as well as he looks.
I am at a loss as to why these two apparently hate each other, there is no chance of putting them together as things are.

Tiggy must be very upset and confused. Not knowing the full background with these two, I wonder how long they have been together before all this trauma? With Tiggy so agitated and Sox thin and poorly, perhaps their owner had been poorly himself for a while?
Anyway, T, to continue our analogy, you rightly observe that the longest journey begins with a single step.

Although if something happened to me and my two were put together cos no one knew their history, there would be issues and fighting, so it could be a similar situation? Is there any way of finding out what they were like while their owner was still alive?

They are so lovely but it is mystifying why they dont like each other.......actually on thinking maybe not cos I have two birmans that my other two dont like and if someone came upon Misa and one of birmans Misa would be hissing and maybe even raising a paw.

I think Desley may have hit the nail on the head. Two cats who normally get along fine will often fly at each other if they are stressed. I had three who used to love each other to bits, but if I put two into one cat carrier to get to the vets, even a very big cat carrier, they used to try to tear each other to pieces. I only did it once as the vet bill was that much larger at the other end... one of them came home in a brand new carrier...

The human psychology is beyond me sometimes,how can anybody just throw these two out on the streets? If I was in a situation where I couldn't have them I would then at least ring the local cats protection and ask them to take them in,dont these people have brains? >:(
Tiggy and Sox are ADORABLE :Luv: I wouldn't worry too much about them not getting on though,my two live together but they don't "get on" and will paw eachother at the first chance they get but funnily enough they eat together,now figure lol

Figured it might be something like that. I know my older tom gets a bit arsey with my younger lad when there's a new cat in the area. Bossy old sod!

what a down right shame...somehow i find myself feeling sorry for the old man even tho he's gone. I do hope his family showed him more kindness than they have shown the cats who were his friends and company.
glad they are with you now though, i hope if your in contact with the neighbour again she will be able to tell you if the old man was kindly to them..i have a picture in my head that he was.
i can believe they couldnt even put out a jumper or something of his..bloody vultures.

Tiggy has made a tiny amount of progress inasmuch as she will now walk around the pen and brush against the bars when I am there, I managed to touch her with one finger on her forehead but as soon as I attempted a second finger she turned on me; poor love is very confused but eating well.
Sox is enjoying the good food and is happy to lounge in his comfortable bed.
Both cats still hate each other.
Desley, all the neighbour knew was mans first name , names of cats, and that Tiggy had kittens which carer took to a farm last year.Also that Sox was 8 years old and thats 2 owners he has had that have died, gosh hope I wont be no 3

Aww, what a sad story, I do hope they come round. Makes me realise how lucky I am really, if anything happened suddenly on this street, there are people who have keys, and we all know each others animals, and all use the same vet, so that would never happen on my street. We even know the majority of the neighbourhood cats too.

Its got to be worth a try.. cite the "abandonment of animals act" - "If any person being the owner or having charge or control of any animal shall without reasonable cause or excuse abandon it, whether permanently or not, in circumstances likely to cause the animal any unnecessary suffering, or cause or procure or, being the owner, permit it to be so abandoned, he shall be guilty of an offence of cruelty within the meaning of the principal Act and liable to the penalties prescribed by subsection (1) of section one of that Act, and the provisions of the Protection of Animals Acts shall apply to an offence under this section as they apply to an offence against the said subsection"

I am not one for dragging other rescues down and so to answer this is difficult, I will say that once before I called in this organisation after I had taken 29 cats from a house,the woman escaped prosecution saying they were strays,as for the cats this organisation said they would also have to take the cats as they were evidence.I was told straight many of the cats would be PTS. I held onto cats and nursed them back to health with the exception of 1 who despite all attempts lost the battle. Indeed one of the cats is Snowball pictured in the castle on Minimopsicals click me page and I have horrendous before pics if anyone wants to see them email me.
Guess whay I`m trying to say is I`m a big headed old boot who works alone this way I know Tiggy and Sox will be safe.
Onto Tiggy and Sox.
Sox decided to poo all over his pen this morning and while I was cleaning him out he visited Tiggy at the door of her pen next door, it was World War 3, these 2 do not get on.
Tiggy is a lot happier than she was but still very confused, shes still doing a lot of growling, I get the impression that she doesn`t like to be confined and is more the outdoor type whereas Sox has been the lap cat.

Wonder if it was a case of the newbie coming onto the scene and pushing the older cats nose out of joint? And then the cats just "putting up" with each other because they both liked their home? Guess we'll never know.
Good luck finding homes for these two. It'll probably be a while before you can with the nervy one, I suppose. They're both lovely looking cats, though.

Managed to trace dead man`s vet today,not really difficult same as mine. He only had one cat registered Tiggy,she is 9 years old and the only treatment she has ever had is to be spayed last year after having kittens.

Sox has been to vets this morning and had his first vaccination,the only thing the vet picked up on were his bad teeth and gingivitus, he wasn`t concerned about the sneezing says he probably caught a chill in the rain. Vet wants me to give him a week or so to settle and then book him in for full blood profile and a dental, estimated age 9-10years.
Tiggy is making progress, she is brushing her body against the pen door asking for attention and allowing me to rest my hand flat against the door but the second I try to stroke her she attacks, she seems to need the security of the pen door between her and me at present. Still early days

Little step backwards with Tiggy tonight it seems I am in her bad books since she saw me cuddling a couple of frightened kittens that arrived today; jealosy I think may be a sign that she is beginning to like me. :)

Tiggy declined to have her picture taken today,in fact she declined my offers to stroke her, I was allowed a couple of gentle head strokes and no more;I`m not unduly worried as she has come a long way in a week. Sox seems to be quite happy about life.

Sox is going through a spell of depression, think hes fed up of being in a pen already, its heartbreaking to see oldies penned but just nowhere else for him.
Tiggy on the other hand is fairly happy and yesterday we managed to give her 7 full strokes.

Don`t know Desley,probably another time waster; spent 2 hours on a homecheck 60mile plus journey for lady who wanted Zara, she was supposed to be coming for her midday and cancelled at 10am , so not holding my breath regards the lady who was interested in Sox as her excuse was pretty lame. Time will tell.

reading this leaves me feeling a mixture of anger and sadness. Those poor cats will be grieving every bit as much as we would grieve. What a disgusting way to treat them, and how on earth would their owner have felt if he'd known what would happen, bless him.

Managed to get this pic of Tiggy today when she was feeling very relaxed and content; shes come quite a long way can manage about 13 head strokes or 10 full body strokes now before she gets angry; still wont let me pick her up yet.

I have only just caught up with this thread. It makes me so angry too, unfortunately it happens here and I expect most places far too often. The fact that relatives and friends will take everything of value from the home makes me very upset especially when in my opinion the most valuable is the pets.

Only just seen this and it's upsetting to read I wish the very best for these 2 poor kitties poor things they must be grieving. So sad, I hope they soon get a new very loving home they deserve.

Sox is feeling rather sorry for himself after having 2 teeth removed and a scale and polish; vets also picked up on a heart murmur. He doesnt want to eat anything at the moment hopefully tomorrow he will be brighter.

Sox is a little brighter this morning, we gave him very soft food which vet recommended and its adorning his food bowl.The dish of dry food has been wolfed down :rofl:, He`ll be fine.

Sometimes I dont understand vets,,,,,,,,,,soft food gets in the holes and they cant get it out so causes pain . Biscuits they just swallow so they dont get hurt, They will go back to the soft food when there gums heal.
Cant remember whether I read this in a cat magazine or my London vet told me but seems some vets think cats are human ;D

Sox is doing really well and eaten a little wet food this morning,just wish he would refrain from doing a Franta/Ducha job with the carpet, it took almost an hour to get into the office this morning :rofl: :rofl: :rofl:

A little bit of Good news ,Sox has been offered a home and if all works out ok I will be taking him there early this evening.
I feel so happy that older ones are getting homes.

Tiggy is still with me and needs a home on her own, she never accepted Sox after she came here,maybe she can take Sox`s place in my office until she is more confident with everything. Had they been bonded I wouldn`t have split them; the lady who is having Sox came with the intention of considering them both but agreed with me that they need to go seperate ways. I have just had the great pleasure of taking Sox to his new home and watching him confidently strut around ,he was so delighted with everything he didnt even bother to say goodbye; he already looks settled and not suprising he was favourable greeted by 4 of the existing 5 female cats.

Been forced into having a new office cat to make pen space so Tiggy has been moved into the house;its going to be a nightmare making sure no one sneaks in or out as she hates all other cats. From the grumpy madam that first came here she has twice pawed at my legs for affection whilst I`ve been sitting here; maybe this is just what Tiggy needs.
O Lord She`s on my knee purring and Headbutting I dont believe it think maybe she likes me after all :) now shes gone to butter Rob up

Claire I put carrier in her pen and asked her nicely,she declined, so I pointed my finger and said in please,she declined,too tired to ask again I said" Ok Tiggy someone else can come and live in the house instead,she walked into the carrier and began treading. You know how aggressive shes been ,I am amazed and so pleased.

She must have heard from Sox that it is a good place to live and didn't want to miss the chance. Think she will blossom in there, just like Sox did.

Fingers crossed she continues to improve now she is on her own, and she can find her forever home soon.

Bless her shes helping me type, sat on my lap purring and chattering and headbutting all at once;she just needs one to one as an only pet.
I worried about the decision to move her yesterday incase she took a step backwards, its my opinion she`s taken a longhaul flight forwards :)
