does anyone with a persian shave em in the summer to give them some relief ? i didnt last summer but i think it may be hot this yr
-
I dont think gillian would prob shave hers sasha as she's said before she doesnt like shaving but i remember a few persians we used to get into work and the owners would stipulate we had to take the coats down to a certain length IE 1 or 2 inches long..perhaps that might be an option.

I don't shave mine Sasha :)

well , mango has a lovely coat , shes never had a tangle or anything and i really dont want to shave it but i do feel sorry for her when its warm , even if shes inside or in shade

No, never shave mine, nor my customers unless there are bad knots - I won't shave cats who have perfectly good coats. Sometimes I get customers asking me to do a 'lion' cut where all the body fur is shaved off, just leaving the head/face, tail, and little booties on their legs - but I refuse politely LOL! Also, once you start shaving off right down to the skin, the fur tends to grow back coarser and more difficult to manage.
But, like Lynn suggested, you can clip down to a certain length all over so it gives them a sort of teddy bear look - (bit like an Exotic) and if you also get some nice sharp scissors and trim around the face fur - they can look really cute! :Luv:
This is a lion cut! NOT recommended!

i used to have to painstakingly do it with a clippers gillian shearing off small amounts till i got it all down to the right length and looking semi even.
They did look kinda cute afterwards but it takes soooooo long (maybe not if your a prof groomer i guess :-: but for likes of amateur me it did)

There fur protects em from the sun and also helps to keep em cool, they open it up and let the air blow through, when its cold they curl up and their fur is flat down to keep em warm.

Yep, it takes me ages too! and you should see me with the scissors trimming the face fur, its like 'oh, just one more snip here, and er, maybe here - and oops, mind the whiskers LOL!

yes that was like me..i have abit of an ocd anyway and things really need to by symetrical and balanced so you can imagine
words cannot describe how i hated that fluffy cotton wool floating around and itchin my nose :tired:.

LOL Gillian... I oops... cut the whiskers @ one side by acident after a quick move of his head.
This post has sent me off on a trimming spree & started one side on Louis.. wonder when I will be able to do the other side! Com'ere Louis... you're long & short.
Do you bath your Persains? I have to with Louis as he's not brilliant at grooming himself. The bath water is black he gets so dirty...

I have only shaved mine when he had really bad knotts, i did not like it when he was shaved, he looks so much nicer with his long hair, he did not have a lion cut!!

Now just the thought of that lopsided cut nearly brings me out in a cold sweat .. i told ya i had an ocd :evillaugh:

I only lightly trim Darcy's trouser fluff - he is bathed and blow dried fairly regularly.
I spent more time on his hair than mine :evillaugh: He has not seemed too bothered by the weather so far - he is very laid back and will happily sleep flat out on his back more or less anywhere during the day so not much chance of overheating - the cats tend to thunder round the house in the early mornings and evenings when it is cooler :Luv:

Yeh, they get a bath and blow dry every six/eight weeks or so - much easier to keep their coats nice that way isnt it?
Couple of customer's cats went home a bit lopsided when the cat suddenly moved while I was trimming the faces LOL!

  - I can relate to that!
