Just wondering if theres a shortest of kittens in other areas as it seems to be up here in glasgow area.
-
I dont think so - I know the rescue's RSPCA have been inundated with kittens and puppies the majority of this year. We were offered 7 in 2 days last week.

I wish, it is a nightmare, kittens, kittens and more kittens, of course no we are not now getting the hundreds of requests a month for them either. I have not had one request for days.

MB, Here down on the South Coast seems to be one of those rare places with a shortage of kittens. Have only had six in this year and they have all been re-homed. Get loads more calls for kittens than I ever have kittens available.
I am always willing to help out if there are Rescues that need help with their kitten overloads, if journey is not too far.

Could I ask a Q?
The people that are bringing the kittens in or handing them over, if they have the mother cat are they getting them spayed so it cant happen again?
Maybe the shortage of kittens is showing a change of the times? Better in any case I would say. :)

Lesley where abouts are you?

I'm in Gosport CC,between Portsmouth and Southampton.

Whenever we take in kittens I give a free voucher to have mum spayed and ask if they have any more cats or are keeping a kitten I then send another voucher when the kitten is 6 months old.
Only yesterday we took in a female that was unwanted, Sue phoned me last night and it is heavily pregnant.
I received an e-mail from someone who used to go on CC about someone she had met who did not want their cats due to a child having asthma. To cut a long story short she sent me a contact name, address and phone number. (it is within 500 yards of my home and on the same road as one of my sisters.). She wrote 'I can't give the family members name as they wish to remain anonymous. (To be honest, I'd prefer it too.') I phoned them and said I understand that you have a friend who has cats they do not want to keep. The woman said they are my cats, so what all the anonymous was about I do not know. Anyway there is a 5 year old Molly and a 1 year old Felix. I said I would put them on the list of cats waiting to come in. I asked if they had been neutered/spayed. Oh! no came the answer. So to cut another long story short they are both being 'done' a week on Monday at our expense of course. They can't be ‘done’ before as the family are going on holiday on Saturday. I was then informed that only Felix was to come in. As they want to keep Molly. Perhaps it is only Felix who is causing the asthma :-:. Within a couple of minutes of putting the phone down Donna phoned to say I have found out where the kitten (the one that was taken to her house at 7.30 am a few days ago because it was unwanted) She said the name and name of Road and said I have a telephone number. I said don't tell me the number let me guess, I then gave the number of the person who I had just been speaking to. Donna thought I was Physic. Yes that's right it was the same woman with Molly and Felix.

We have that many mums and kittens and also pregnant cats we just do not know which way to turn. Only yesterday I received so many calls for help with mums and babies in gardens etc, It is just impossible to bring them all in immediately. All I can do is offer advice and support until we can help. The problem is also many of the calls were from areas where there is no rescue cover, but once I know about a situation I feel I must do something.

We are completely overloaded with cats and kittens at the moment and one of the mums is pregnant again, obviously got caught just before we took her in (she was a stray). I've got two reports of stray mums and kittens for which I'm trying to get in touch with the people who've called (but of course they are never there when I ring) but we have absolutely no space for them so I'm going to have to ask them to try other rescues in the area. Like you Ela the homing calls for kittens have dried up but we had loads a couple of months ago when we had no kittens. Mind you homing for cats has dried up too - bit of a nightmare at the moment

I've had numerous phone calls about cats and kittens that need to come in but sadly nowhere for them to go. A lot of phone calls I've been getting as well are for people moving as in "now" and they want their cat/cats rehoming........it's a nightmare and seems neverending :censored: :censored: All the rescues in our area are absolutely chocca so god knows what's going to happen to the poor mites but sadly, we can only do so much and take so many in :'(

I'm happy to do a run to pick some up from another Rescue if I can ease the burden in just a small way, I always feel so useless when you are all over run with kittens and I have the space for some and none need help down here.

Your wish is my command :evillaugh: Two female cats, one has 3 kittens that are 7 weeks old and more than likely pregnant again :censored: and one due to drop...........what do ya reckon?? We will have to try and sort transport out though, the woman who contacted me may be able to do part way as the cats are in Birkenhead.

Another weeeee question
When you rehome a cat/kitten aswell as doing the homecheck do you do any follow up even months later...or is it just a case of......right its gone just forget about it? Cos where i got mine from the lassie hasnt bothered finding out wither i still have them etc.
-
I keep in touch with everyone I rehome to and if they get any problems, I am only at the end of the phone and if the cat doesn't settle or they are not happy with them, I will take them back.
-
I'm the same as Dawn and Il also try and do a newsletter once in a while and send out to all people who have re-homed etc. I often get piccies of how the babies are doing and my adoption contract states that I will always take a kittie back if there is a problem at any age.

I meet a CP lady the other day who said she has a waiting list for people wanting kittens as there is a shortage !!
I found that hard to believe but its true - must just be in this area then
