Title: Upset At Kittens' Goodbye
Post by: Kelly on June 06, 2007, 12:32:42 PM
I'm a fosterer who has been looking after 4 kittens and mum for 3 weeks and Monday eve 2 of the kittens went to their new homes. I know its a fantastic home as the lady works with my OH and was beside herself when she finally met Kevin and Flora. My problem was with handing them over! I put the 2 in their carrier and mum and other 2 just sat and stared at me. The kittens started yelping and I just burst into tears!!!!! The thought of taking these babies away from their mum and siblings completely destroyed me. My OH was understanding, gave me the 'going to a fantastic loving home etc' talk but even now I feel guilty when I come home to the remaining 3 cats.

For those of you who do this full time - are you the same, do you need a pep talk afterwards or am I just a daft emotional wreck???

Kelly of course you will get upset, you are their mummy too. At least you will have updates on the kittens with them going to your OH's work mate.  :)

I know! I've rehomed a few cats since fostering and it didn't bother me but it was just with them being little ones I guess!

I've re-homed over 60 kittens/cats over the past 18 months and everyone of them going causes me tears, but you just have to think to yourself that without your help they would not have made it to a new home so we should all really celebrate - these kitties are all the lucky ones!!

You getting upset shows how much love and care you have put into them, what is wrong with that.  Kelly you have done a wonderful thing and now you will  have room to do it all again for another fortunate little fur baby.

That is so sad. I always feel for the poor Mummy cat having to loose her babies (God i wish people would spay !!)
How is the Mum doing ?

Big hugs to you Kelly

She's ok - I think she's actually relieved at only having 2 to contend with now rather than 4!!!!

Michelle - the kittens wouldn't stay with the mum in the wild anyway though, and a lot are relieved when their babies go.
Good luck with the others Kelly - but just think, babies settle into new homes a lot quicker than adults do.

Aw Kelly I know how you feel.  I always feel more sorry for the mum cat - but to be honest they cope really well - and as has been said you have to keep reminding yourself of what a brilliant job you are doing.

The lady who adopted the kittens says they're purring away and snuggling up for cuddles  :Luv: The 2 that are left are enjoying battering each other so I do feel better now!
