Title: Dexter was bitten
Post by: emmmy_lou on April 07, 2017, 12:08:41 PM
Dexter only went and got a bite on his head....

I didn't realise at first - I thought is was just something that had gotten stuck in his fur. He does have a habit of getting clumps of seeds stuck, possibly due to his love of rolling around on the floor outside! (first pic)

When I then noticed a little scab I got him booked in with the vets who just wiped a big clump of fur off leaving a baldy lump on his head

They kept him in for the day to drain it and said he was as good as gold - they just used some local anaesthetic, didn't need to sedate him at all  :Luv:

I had to bathe it 2x daily & put sudocrem on (2nd pic)

It didn't take long to heal up (3rd pic)

We still don't know who he was fighting with. Hopefully not one of the other 2 in our house! I suspect a poor 3 legged cat that lives round our way he has taken a dislike to, but there are SO many cats where we live it could be one of about 9 others....!

Hopefully he's learnt his lesson anyway  :shify:

Aww, poor Dexter!  :( I'm glad he healed well and hope it doesn't happen again.

Alf has had 2 bite abscesses on his tail, it is clear he was bitten while running away! They both healed well and, touch wood, he doesn't seem to have been in trouble for a while. We don't have a lot of other cats in our area - a little black lad called 'Cookie', whom Alf tolerates (maybe because he thinks he is a 'mini-me'!), and I saw a new long-haired black + white the other day - Alf chased him/her away.

Poor thing - obviously doesn't want any trouble!

I just wish I'd realised earlier, but there was no blood and then just a very small scab.

I'm surprised with Dexter cos he's usually so laid back - when we adopted Evie he wasn't really bothered at all!

I know, hopefully it's enough to stop him from causing trouble....! :crossed:

I don't like the idea of him causing harm to someone elses cat  :(

Emma, someone somewhere is probably blissfully unaware that Dexter has been injured in the line of duty by their macky big bruiser.  You don't know that he wasn't just mugged whilst minding his own business.   :-: :-:

SO SORRY TO HEAR THAT DEXTER HAS BEEN IN THE WARS  :Luv2:

DID THE VET CONFIRM IT WAS DEFINATELY A CAT BITE? IT'S TIMESLIKE THIS THAT WE WISH OUT CATS COULD TALK SO WE ARE NOT IMAGINING 10 DIFFERENT SCENARIOS

Yes, she did seem pretty sure. She said a cat bite just leaves a small puncture hole, but goes in very deep.

He's doing fine now thanks everyone and his fur is growing back nicely!
