Someone has bought me a herb garden kit and I'm trying to figure out if it's safe to have in an area a cat can get to. I've googled and I think it's fine but want to be sure.
Herbs are parsley, basil, chives, coriander.

What a lovely gift. :) All but the chives should be fine - anything that derives from bulbs is a no-no around cats.
Having said that, I safely have crocuses, snowdrops and chives in the garden, and none of the cats have ever bothered with them.
Why not try replacing the chives with something like catmint or garden mint, to be on the safe side?

Thank you Sue, I just did a further search before I saw your post and chives definitely seems to be a no. That's a great suggestion regarding the mint, thank you.

If you go for the catmint option, I have a feeling Freya and Gobi may be your devoted slaves (if only for a nanosecond :evillaugh:)
-
Yes, I suspect you may be right :)

I grow chives in my garden and haven't had a problem

I have Chives, Garlic Chives, Garlic and Onions growing in my garden, the kids just ignore them, personally, I wouldn't worry too much, I have had them since before the present lot of cats and they have all ignored them. As well as the Bay, Rosemary, Basil (purple, italian and thai), Coriander, Thyme and Sage. They do love the Catnip though ;D

I USED TO GROW CHIVES IN A POT AND IT WAS KOCKAS FAV RESTING SPOT

Really? I'd like to try. return man 3 hacked (http://qingzhiliao.com/return-man-3-the-season.html)

They should be pretty easy ones to try, Rayone125. They don't need too much attention other than watering in their pot twice a week (or more if they're in a very sunny spot indoors). Don't over-water though, or the bulbs will rot.

The only other thing I would say is that I grow the soft annual herbs in a butlers sink in the garden and I have to cover it with a plastic mesh until the herbs are a good size. Otherwise the cats think I have provided them with a new toilet. If it is a big pot your cats might think the same thing.
