I've always talked baby talk to Lucas and Riley, I just can't help myself but lately a strange Mexican accent has crept in. Imagine a Mexican in the dessert with a big hat on saying Mr Lukey, Mr Riley in a husky Mexican voice well that's me!
Does anyone else talk to their cats in a strange accent or is it just me  I am willing to seek professional help if it turns out just to be me.
-
     :rofl:Helen
i dont do the accent thing
but i do the silly voice thing all the time :Luv:
-
Mix in the Portuguese Senhora and you have me talking to Lexy.. with stupid baby talk mixed in. If you need professional help, I need it more!
-
Andale, Andale, Ariba, Ariba, eh-hah
thats about as far as i go :evillaugh:
-
Vamos, vamos eh? No, it's not just you. I'm not sure my cat accent's Mexican though. My OH says it's more gleckit (sp?) than burmese. I'll now have to learn to sign in burmese...mind you, know what you mean, if someone overheard me it may be white coats time ;D
-
oh we got another one in this house..hubbys saying -- "hey blondie you wanna buy a donkey" >:( >:( No prizes for guessing who he says that to :evillaugh:
-

This for me usually ends Harriba, I say this to Harry when he's having a mad scoot. Oh God do I need help too?!

Are you sure you've not suddenly become possessed :shify: :evillaugh:
-
Oh dear Helen lol, that has made me giggle! The only accent mine get spoken to in other than English is French by me and of course OH speaks to them in a Scottish accent.
-
Thats interesting Lottie, does Mrs Boppy understand english or do you talk to her in French?
-
She doesn't tremble and cower quite so much if she hears people speaking English now, although she is still quite frightened of it. She doesn't understand English though so she usually gets spoken to in French by me. It's great fun (!) when I'm trying to stop them both doing something as she doesn't understand the word stop (but if you say it in French she immediately stops what she was doing) and he understands the English but not the French!
The vet reckons she purrs with a French accent as she said she'd never in her life heard a cat make a purring noise like Miss Boopy (when I first heard her do it I panicked that it was a wheeze and got the vet to give her a very thorough check over but the vet checked her and said it is just her purring noise lol, it really is a very bizarre purr)
-
Wow must be very confusing in your house
I have always wondered about animals understanding different languages.
New roll for you, English/ French teacher ;D
-
the french for purr is wonderful....ronron. You gotta roll those 'r's too ;D Miss B sounds like an Edith Piaf purrer.
-

Helen darling you should make an appointment with your Dr as soon as possible
I talk to my lot like I'm one of the muppets one minute and like a spoilt 6 year old child the next ??? thank god I live alone or I'd definitly have been sectioned by now.!
-
Our family cat was sometimes known as the "Tuxedo" during her mad half hours - my borther and I would hide from her and go "aieeee! The Tuxedo, she WILD!! in a Mexican accent :evillaugh:
Interesting about french cats - my friend had a Dutch horse - we couldn't communicate with him verbally for months!
-
confessions "yes" my friends look at me VERY strangely when I talk differently to all my babies in all manor of different voices. Its usually the ones without animals though. that find talking to animals bizarre    .

Me: aww wittle baby waby needing a cuddle baby?
Lexy: miaow!! (purrr yeah yeah get on with it...)
Sound familiar anyone?
-
LOL, I don't think we're the mad ones, its the ones who don't talk to their cats in funny voices
Maxy has special songs, silly voices, and even a bit of Benny Hill running around the lounge when its time for bed :evillaugh: Have to admit I do get a lot of 'yes dears' from o/h :P
-
OH informs me that "eetsa moo moo foota boo boofta nang nang" is neither 'burmese' nor suitable language when there's company and that they are cats, not 'chickens' (as in 'my chickens'), lambchops (oops) and that Swampy has a daft enough name anyhow without being called Mr Foofoo.
I have heard him doing silly voices too though. Plus he also calls Max 'da Sheesh' as in Maxsheesh-baksheesh :P
I'll bet if you sneak up on the OHs, they do it too :innocent:
-
my OH refuses to speak baby talk, but he does change pitch and it goes all soft and he talks to Lexy as if shes the most clever girl in the world. I prefer my baby noises.
-
Have to admit i have started talking slightly Jewish with my two   instead of ahhh it's ahhh vey
This is brill thread
-
gotta fess up guys i'm not really a "baby talk" kinda person but....I do talk in different tones and pitches to my babes.
If i started that baby talk me thinks i'd have divorce papers in front of my on the grounds of " mentally disturbed/unstable" :evillaugh:
-
This is brill - just bin laughin' me socks off and thinking "gawd - at least I don't do that" - "oh, but yes - I do do that!" I think me an' Ruth got a bit more than Googlin in common! :evillaugh:
At the moment, poor Pad seems to get a lot of "Paddy puddy tat - you bin a poopin inna gardin again? You gonna get a smack" (scoops him up, pats his backside and goes "smack smack smack" (purrs whilst looking mildly embarrased....)
Sorry chaps.... :-[
-
Hehehe i do the baby talk too, I walk in the front door and shout "Babbies!" and they both come trotting over meowing, and my other favourite is picking Kiki up and singing the Kitty Cat Dance song (Anyone not familiar needs to go on YouTube and type Kitty Cat Dance. its so funny)
"Cat! I'm a kitty cat and i dance, dance, dance and i dance, dance dance"
My OH thinks i'm insane but never mind.... :evillaugh:
-
Nooooooooooooooooo, not the kitty cat dance again ...................... gonna be stuck in my bloomin head again now....... aaarrrrghhhhh
-
LOL you can go home and sing to your Max now! I'm sure he'll be thrilled!
-
I'm all croaky today, so my singing voice will be less than pleasing to Maxy boy lol
I still can't work out the words in the middle of kitty cat dance though ..... sounds like 'I say sexy things to myself when I'm lying outside' in one bit ...............
who knows
-
I think one bit is "I say sexy things when i'm dancing", but the other bits baffle me!
-
Glad its not just me then
-
I think one bit is "I say sexy things when i'm dancing", but the other bits baffle me!
It's "I'm provocative posing"

I love you lot - you make me feel so normal
I have lots of daft voices and accents for talking to my boys but few are recognisable as anything other than inane ramblings and thankfully there's no other human around here to give me scathing looks.
-
yeah - baby talk here too!!! :shy: i cant help it!!!!!!! i'm in absolute love with jasper at the mo (well always am, but its bad just now!!)
oh now why did you have to put that link there....... i keep hovering over it now.... i'm trying to resist.... i can hear it without clicking.... oh dear lord it is kitty cat genius!!!!!!!! come on though guys, lets make a big effort to finally figure all the words! ;D
-
Aside from my strange Mexican accent, here's a sample of a regular coversation. This is said in a strange voice that I make by tensing up my tongue and lifting it up...
'Hewo boys, Mummy wuuvs her bestest boys. Aaah, baby Woooky - he's so pwetty. Big kisses, kiss from baby Wiley too. Mwah Mwah' etc etc :shy:
-
Haha, I do all my silly talking in Swedish, so people around can't understand. ;)
Monkey and I have a little morning routine - when OH gets up & has a shower, Monkey joins me in bed for a SERIOUS cuddling session (he's very jealous of OH, so wants him out of the way). OH has now informed me that he can hear me in bed with Monkey - I don't really notice myself, but apparently I emit an incessant stream of ohh-ing, aah-ing and yelps of pleasure - bedroom window is open, and OH hears it in through bathroom window. Which means all the neighbours can hear... since they have windows closer to our bedroom window than the bathroom... :-[ Apparently it sounds like I'm in bed with a man... :-[ What must the neighbours be thinking!?
(OH is very jealous, but knows not to push it - I'd pick Monkey over him in an instant!)
