Title: Advice needed - dont know what to do
Post by: Littlebobo on May 29, 2007, 12:50:41 PM
HELLLLPPP just had a phonecall from women down the road and she has just found a kitten at the bottom of her garden no sign of mum or any siblings ...she has had it checked by her vets and they have said it is about 6 weeks old ..

The problem is that she is going away for 2 weeks TONIGHT and doesn't know what to do as she would look after the kitten herself and has asked if i could take her in just until she gets back.

Would you take the kitten in ?...Mister is currently injured and not sure how the others would react to another kitten around the place although i would obviously keep them seperate ...

HELP i said i would let her know in the next few hours

 :thanks:

Lisa, do you not have a room you could kep the kitten in separately just until the lady returns? If not, and you feel it would really upset your cats is there anyone else who you know that would be willing to care for the kitten temporarily?

well at 6 wks the little one isnt likely to require alot of room nor be overly lively lisa BUT should still be having regular milk feeds maybe from a bottle if it doesnt lap enough from a bowl so potentially alot of work...are you working ??  ( a mobile crate/cage perhaps on  loan from vet etc would be the ideal thing for the little one)
However someone will need to decide to do it asap if she's going away.

do you know if she has got cimicat from the vet +/- a bottle..it really does still need proper milk replacement and introduced to good quality kitten food.

Is this woman sure that the mother cat isn't looking for it? I'm just a little concerned about taking kitten away from where mum 'lost' it.

But it won't survive alone. So maybe best to try to take her in. If you have the time to feed a kitten every few hours, then do this, otherwise try to contact a rescue near you.

I work full time am off today to look after Mister ( although he doesn't need it i suppose) ..She didn't mention anything about cat milk although i have a bottle here and can get that ..just that if it needs regular feeds i can't help ...There is only really one other lady i would trust to d it and she is not answering her phone and i dont want to really tell her i can't help ..

Grrrrr....I suppose i could put her in the bathroom to keep her seperate from the others i have more than enough room for a teeny weeny kitty !!

I am ringing the vets she took it too now to see if their are any alternatives..

I know the lady well and i am sure that she wouldn't have taken the cat from its mum I think that she had been monitoring it for  while and said that there was certainly no mum ..the kitten is apparerntly very placid s not likely to be feral either ?

Apparenltly the kitten is drinking milk on its own no need for feeding, the vet has said that they could possibly help and will let me know, Fingers crossed ..I feel bad because i know i could take her on just not sure i can give her the time and attention she needs.

thats great is she is lapping on her own, my advice would be to definately get cimicat milk replacement from the vet though and say to whoever is looking after her to weight her every couple of days..just incase she isnt lapping enough.

Aww, Lisa. I'd love to help, I'm just too b***dy far away! I've just looked it up on Multimap (I figured if it wasn't too far, I could cadge a lift!) but it's over two hours drive! :-:

Good luck, hope the vets can help.

Welll thankfully my vets has very kindly stepped in and is going to look after the little one as his wife is pregnant and not working so can look after her around the clock a lot more than i could have done i was getting myself all in a fluster ...

Rather stupidly i feel a little sad about not having a little one about ...but i need to focus on Mister at the moment !!
