Are they flattened back against his head? This is a sign of aggression or fear. I've never heard of a cat flattening them to the side, unless this is the way your cat's ears naturally go when he means to flatten them back.

he is holding them down

the only way i can desscribe it to u is they are in a position where they look like wings instead of ears lol

i was thinking could it be that his ears hurt or something ?

although he did have a 5 day course of ear drops as did all my cats

yet they are still scratching them  >:(

It is usually fear or aggression. Is there a fair amount of noise because of the redecorating? Maybe he's just feeling unsettled.

Might be a good idea to take him to the vet again, just in case he has mites or something. But as a behavioural display, this usually means fear or aggression.

Do you mean like the second pic down on the left?

If so he's probably just a bit fearful as a result of the decorators having been in - unfamiliar smells etc.

sorry i thought from your description of the ears down and slightly tilted to the side they might be uncomfy or sore esp given he's just finished a course of ear drops in the past couple of days.

Thats the one I thought Lisa meant. I think they do it when they are stalking a bird (or a foot  :evillaugh: )
